Will you have to use macro programs to compete?

I saw this issue raised in many other threads and I decided to make its own thread to ask those of you who played beta or have played any at all today - will you need a macro program to keep your skills at the level of everyone else?

Is there any chance this will become a bannable offense in the future?

As with all games, no doubt 3rd party macros will get you banned.

    Not at all.

Full loot open pvp + the change to the rogue system will make macro'ing something that can be dealt with.

Botting is bannable according to the TOS but macros such as harvesting seem to be ok for now.

For example...someone macros a node in town...knock them back, shield block for 10 seconds, youll drop rogue status with plenty of health and the macro'er is screwed.

Attended macroing was allowed in beta. This is what people will be doing a lot, so get used to it.

Couldn't someone just macro weapon skills while asleep standing next to guards/guard towers?

AFK Macro'ing, botting and using third-party programs are considereda banable offense; though is is some discussion as to how the Admins will be able to catch users. A couple macros set-up via a G15 would be tough to catch, an Admin you need to send a tell to the user and consider them AFK if they don't get any response.

And, no - as with any other MMORPG you do not need to macro. Just play the game and skill up. We haven't seen the rate of skill decay so its unknown how effective macro'ing will be in the long term.

You have to hit someone to level wep skills. So no they could not.

You won't need to macro to compete.  You will need to macro to get through the intensely boring grind aspect of the game with your sanity intact, though.

Grind aspect? But there's no levels?

For some people, not unlocking every spell during 4 weeks of beta play (without char wipes) is too much effort.

I guess I'm missing something here though, how can there be a 'grind' if there's no XP and you can get all your equipment from killing other players?

There isnt a grind with combat, unless you want to spend your time training your skills by not playing the game and just hitting a friend in the back over and over trying to level.

There is a grind in certain things like building up your city....as in any mmo with crafting.  You need lots of resources...so lots of time spent harvesting.
