Maybe once they get dx10 implemented in 2010, they can get around to fixing sieging?
Since so many things have an errie parallel to their last MMO, I'd guess they will begin a complete revamp on real-estate PvP when if they launch an expansion.
AoC has more raids than many other MMOs (including WAR) now after patch 1.04.
Umm, not even close not by a long shot.
Well except MMOs that have no raids at all ... AoC has them beat.
Maybe you should hit 80 and play all the content before you go bragging about it, you might actualy understand what some of the people here are discussing, just a suggestion.

I am sure that FC and the lackey Avery will present to you many of the features and things that sieges offer, but the main problem is that they will not show you the negative sides to it. And no, patch notes do not reveal this.
I wouldn't really call such a small battle epic, unless they increased the number of people allowed into the instanced encounter?
I don't know, I guess I'm just used to fully open world, non instanced 600 man sieges in DAoC
AoC can't do that, the engine isnt powerful enough to be able to render that many elements at once, even tho right up to launch they said they were gonna have 2X as many players per side in their sieges. Add it to the list of all the things that turned out to be 50% of what they claimed.
1,2,3, all of you have not personally either participated in a siege or if have done so was 8 months + ago.
I think that speaks all that needs to be said really.
Experience, beats theory any day of the week in my book.
Yes there are negative sides to the sieges at the moment, several times have pointed them out. But you see visually in the video linked here that things look ok don't they. Must be so hard to acknowledge that aspect.
EDIT: I'll like to point out that by listing what was fixed was also acknowledgement of what was wrong. And by no means it means they are perfect.
Just to show they are not always perfect but still fun there was a server crash in one last night.
It looks like fun to me, but the server crashed, siege points reset. Right up to the moment where it did crash we can see some awesome game play. Hope that is balanced enough. I only wish for them to get better and the development on them proves this despite issues still.
You are well aware they halved the amount of participants allowed in the sieges because the engine couldn't handle it. Nice try tho.
What does the amount of participants have to do with it? The guy see's a vid, and thinks it looks fun. We are talking present day here. Massive amounts of fixes and massive amounts of postings good > bad. Regular occurances. At the end of the day poll any person who recently participated in a siege and you will have them tell you it is fun, but also suffers from issues. As can be seen in the link I put in. Looks fun to me too, participating in one is fun for me too.
Having the zone crash on you is not fun, have had it happen a few times where it kicks you out. Now that sucks. But when up and running there is a measured difference for the better over the past half a year.

See those little boxes around the words? Those are people replying to each other, notice my first box is a comment on something someone said? See how that works? Why do you keep trying interjecting your self into that branch of the conversation and drag it off of the topic? Why do you feel a need to confront any and every one who is critical of the game? The overwhelming majority of the people who bought it, did not like it, you must have noticed that by now, so why are you continually hassling those people? This is not your personal forum, let the people speak their mind ... even if you don't agree with them.
We talk about the game and the company, you keep talking about the posters, enough already we get it , you don't like people that don't like AoC, message received loud and clear.
Keep these forums on topic, the topic is Age of Conan - a FunCom game, NOT who posts what and why.
Just look at this link Krewel gave us forums-eu.ageofconan.com/showthread.php and read what McGregorSL is saying. He's not just some troll who's not playing anymore, he's a current player who thinks sieges suck. And most players agree with him.
You need a super computer to get sieges to work and when they do, well they are boring. It's a double failure by Funcom.
Sieges were supposed to be the ultimate endgame pvp content but in reality they are a joke. Most players rushed to level 80 at launch to see the sieges, and once they did see them, they quit.
To OP.. Yes sieging sure does LOOK fun. Too bad it's not. Just look at this link Krewel gave us forums-eu.ageofconan.com/showthread.php and read what McGregorSL is saying.
It's obvious that you choose your battles and who you want to listen to, and surprisingly not, the ones you listen to are the ones having the worst problems of them all.
This guy's post from two months ago is starting off by saying the sieges are broken, have bad framerates, and that melee soldiers can't fight and have nothing to do (don't know what he means by that at all).
Then a rant follows, where he talks about things he is generally disappointed with about the game, like drunken brawling (you ought to think that it was the sieging that was beeing discussed, but no!). He mentions the horrible framerates again, suggesting his computer isn't up to the task or that he cannot tweak his own settings good enough, seeing as a 9600GT worked perfectly well for me last time I sieged.
And this post you managed to scrounge up is for you dead solid evidence that sieges in AoC does not exist and that they are terribly broken. And once you have this irrefutable evidence, you can troll and rant on about your horrible experiences from (I guess) nearly a year ago.
Deadman87 - if you look at the date of those posts on the official forum, you'll actually see they come from February and March 2009 . The reason I posted the link is to show you that things are not what they seem, even if a lvl 20 player is totally euphoric about it. The problems players report dating from February and March 2009 (UNDERSTAND NOW, not 2008, but 2009, this year, this month!) are the same problems I myself encountered almost a year ago.
So, again, just because almost a year has passed since the release of AoC, it does not mean that sieges are fixed now and work as they should.

I was mainly responding to the post from Jan. 20th, but I read a bit further down, and it seems some people have been experiencing server lag. This is something I can't really comment on, as it's been a while since I last sieged.
But there have been several patches latetly, so there is a possibility it's been fixed. Again, I do not really know for sure.
Right now FC has made it such a disaster from their lack of direction the AoC forums are going nuts, of course you'll never see them because FC is hanging by a thread and are bleeding players and money right now. That means they are doing their best to delete these posts ASAP (as if that's ever saved them-lol) Lack of directions ?
If you are on a PvE server right now when war is declared, people are ganking other players in a non consensual manner. On a PvE server this insane, because the side declaring war is basically stalking and waiting til they find every member they can in the world (from the opposing team), then they declare war. The unsuspecting player(s) are ganked (because they had no idea they were flagged for pvp-because they have no way of knowing war was declared on their guild) the second war is declared, this of course is all orchestrated by the attacking guild. Remember this is a PvE server where most people were hoping to get away from that "Hi im 15 years old--I'll never get laid, but hey I can grief you in AoC instead--and you can't do a thing about it...im powerful" mentality---it's a joke. Even if that wasn't the case, and FC is starting to understand the depth of their own bad decision making, so they sound like they are taking it out from the way they are talking (Im guessing late summer seeing how quick they get things done). Of course there are so many other bugs and exploits and issues that go back to the game's launch--it's hard to understand how they are going to do this--which they probably won't. They will just let the game get worse and worse. They may fix a thing here and there--but the more they add the more they break. (I can't wait til DX10-lol)
Lol what a bullshit.
Lets check some facts:
You can declare WAR to another guild ONLY if:
- You have Tier 3 city ( well tier 3 keep is enough )
- If the guild you are declaring war on have a Battle Keep
- When guild declare WAR on you there is a message in guild chat and also you can click on your keep in Massive PvP tab and see how many guilds declared war on your guild.
Btw it seems even that was to disturbing for PvE players ( pfft why go for Battle Keep if you cant handle PvP ) so Funcom LISTEN THE COMMUNITY and change it for PvE servers:
Update 1.04.2
War Declarations: On a PVE server guild-war during the war period is now only applicable in normal PVP areas (i.e. The Border Kingdoms or the PVP mini-games). The system remains unchanged for PVP servers.
The old reality use to be that a guild would declare war on you, and then just simply not show up. This means that if you are in a guild with a city you'd be expected to show at a certain time in order to defend your BK, but the other team wouldn't show up (the other team being the side that DECLARED war). Why would anybody bother to do that do you ask? Because that's the reality of the Kool-Aid drinkers that infest AoC. (ooow it's rated "M" im a grown up and there are boobies). Now they wouldn't just do this once and a while--but constantly. Hey they're little kids who still laugh at fart jokes (FC knows this an added a fart emote to celebrate and encourage it) and may think it's a riot--and if you are one of them im sure you'll have a blast too, but for most people over 16--it gets old pretty quick. Your replies looks like you are 13 years old .
If guild does not show up they loose all their guild points.
Lets see on Fury server if you even wanna get in line for the sieging you need to be sure you have over 5K points ( in most cases 10K+ )
Each mini game win ( with premade guild group ) will give you 12 points.
Now if you are dumb enough to roll on a PvP server the first system will stay the same--when war is declared, obviously you are free game anyways. But on a PvP server you WILL be farmed. You see there are no one on one fights in AoC. People simply see you as a walking meat farm for PvP Xp. This is because the less than bright FC has made it so that it's worth it to farm you on white sands when they are 8 levels beyond you. Of course people will tell you that doesn't matter..its all skill ..but a lot of these people are buddies who hunt in packs (alts from established guild and experienced players), and I guarantee you that they have a few ranger's who happen to be way OP'd at that level. The fanbois will be coming in here to deny everything (failed FC investors and Paid FC employees). But if you are really a new player and not one of their alts--come back when you get to 80 (if FC is still in business ) then we'll talk. Lol let me see if you are dumb enough to roll on PvP servers expect you will have shit load of PvP and thats like bad or something ?
AoC on PvP servers is best compared being always in guild wars arena, WoW battle grounds etc...
So yes if you like PvP if you like that skills > equipment well AoC really shines in that aspect. Otherwise I find you a little too excited to be a legit player imo--players like yourself usually do their worshiping on The AoC boards. This is where they come when they realize the game is a joke. Or when they are bought by FC to talk about how great the game is. Have fun with the siegess Thanks we do have fun with sieging thats why we do it on regular bases.
Siege wise:
- Passing thru walls - FIXED
- Frame rate during the siege - FIXED
It was ok before the merges, then awfull after merges ( in cimmerian end and Border to Kushh / Aquilonian end was good ) - we know we did sieging in all those areas
( There is still room for improvement as I need to lower my maxed settings if I wanna have decent 30+ fps when 48 vs 48 people clashes )
Dont get me wrong AoC have quite few issues and the most important one is defenetily variety of things you can do when you reach end game, however in past months a lot of things were really improved and the game changing one will come with itemization/stats patch 1.05 ( hopefully in next 2 months or so )
So what can you do in AoC once you reach level 80.
- 24 man raiding instances ( the epics are worth it and they make the diffrence )
There is more then enough raid content that if you are purley raiding guild you can fill whole 7 days doing it.
( Raid instances are rested once per week )
Problems: Loot tables are fucked so you may do shit load of raids and you still wont get items you want.
- 6 man dugeons (
Great for blue items and recepies.
- Building guild city
Needed if you wanna do sieging, high level crafting + you get nice PvE bonuses.
- Sieging
Well already described.
You get really good PvP bonuses by owning Keep.
Notes:
You need to hold keep for 7 days to be able to upgrade it to tier 2
Once its tier 2 you need to hold it for 21 days to be able to upgrade it to tier 3
The higher the tier is the better PvP bonuses you have.
Each tier also mean visual change and more HP for buildings and walls.
Problems: Rezz pad bug for defenders ( only for keeps in Cimmerian End ) - hopefully fixed with todays patch
- PvP expiriance and Levels
When you kill a player you receive PvP XP by killing many and many you start to level up your PvP levels.
With each level you can buy PvP equipment that gives you PvP bonuses,
While AoC is really fast PvE leveling game, you can reach max level in very short amount of time compared to other MMO's ( imo 2.5x speed for getting max level in AoC compared to WoW ) its completly diffrend story when it comes to PvP levels.
The main reason is diminishing XP if you (solo) kill another players for first time ( in past 24h )
- 100 XP 1st time
- 80 XP 2nd time
- 60 XP 3rd time
- 40 XP 4th time
- 20 XP 5th time
- 1 XP for all other kills in next 24h
Now as you see that if you are constantly in groups or even raids you will receive less XP so for fast PvP leveling you need to balance it a bit with some solo kills, mini games and ofc mass pvp for best fun.
- PvP resources & Recepies
To be able to build battle keep you need to collect PvP resources that are only available in Cimmerian End.
A nice touch to it that you can see on the map if any of PvP resources is getting farmed so you know there are
players there.
Arhitects needs to collect PvP recepies that you can get in 3 NPC villages that are protected by epic mobs from level 60 to 80.
Note:
If you die in PvP you drop some of the PvP resources you have in inventory.
In Cimmerian End border kingdom:
- there is no murderer system so you can kill all levels without penalties:
- there are no guards
- you have multiple rezz points and you are able to choose where you want to rezz
( so you cant get camped at rezz pad )
- Crafting & Economy
With current itemization&stats there are not plenty of things really worth crafting however there are still some items like gems ( yes you heard me gems .. the only gimped ones are dmg/resistance/evade ones ) and cultural armors. ( the itemization patch 1.05 will improve this a lot )
I guess there are also things like roll playing or doing some other carebear stuff but Iam in AoC for the killing so far its one of the best MMO's when it comes to PvP mechanics.
They are working on fixes and imo direction is right, however its a bit to slow for my taste .. and the main reason is cause game was released so unfinished and 6 months passed while they were still fixing issues that should be there at release.
I have no doubt that Age of Conan will be one of the best games on the market let say 2 years from now when it comes to game mechanincs/features/graphics/sounds.
Heh mostlikely I wont be playing it that long in the feature and even itemization patch 1.05 may be the gamebreaking thing for me.
I like it so far cause Items dont make that bug difference and on paper everyone agrees that skill > items is great in reality 80% of people that supported that idea will change it well thats sux why craft why do dungenos I wanna my phat 1337 loot to be uber etc.. ( again Funcom is listening to community and majority of players want to have phat loot )
If the difference with items becomes to big it will be time for me to move on.
I can say AoC really fucked up my future MMO playing as there is no way I could go back to classic auto attack combat system again. ( and belive me I tried to play some of the others MMO's were content is much richer but well the old style combat is just meh and my game style is 99% of combat .. preferably all PvP.
AoC is shaping quite nicely while I agree for most standard MMO players there is still not enough of variety when it come to end game. ( normal player will get more then enough content to be really entertained for at least 5 to 6 months, depends on leveling speed, quality of the guild etc.. -> for AoC at release I would say it was for max 1 to 1.5 months maybe ( leveling gaps, lack of pvp levels, bugs, ctds etc.. ).
And this post you managed to scrounge up is for you dead solid evidence that sieges in AoC does not exist and that they are terribly broken. And once you have this irrefutable evidence, you can troll and rant on about your horrible experiences from (I guess) nearly a year ago.
My own SOLID evidence is the fact that I did a siege last week. Like always, it was a horrible and boring experience.
How about you? Do you even play AoC? And if you do, have you ever tried siege battle? You should try it so you will see why most people don't like it.

Then I am confused. Why would you post a thread for people who "quit" the game...
And said only people who hate AoC and quit can post there? You had not quit, but decided then to make a troll post? Or is the above statement about sieges a lie?
I think this is where people can see where you are coming from, and why anything you do say is suspect. I do not believe you are still playing. But, if you are, then it will be very easy to prove.
Go make the username ChristianBal as a forum name (as you can make multiples under your account) and then post on the AoC forum, then link it here..
Otherwise, all I can say is you do not have experience with the game, as previous posts have shown (you have stated quitting the game before.), that we do not know what to believe about you...

Lol why do everyone here always demand proof about everything someone else says?
You think Christian cares if you believe him or not? He's probably laughing his as off at your post as we speak.
How about we talk about the game instead of a random individual forum user?

Back to the original OP.
I agree, sieges look awesome, and luckily Funcom is making strides to fix the current issues. It is too bad the engine was so harsh as to make coding this in difficult. But, they have made progress and have made it a #1 concern.
It looks fun, can't argue with you there! At least your giving personal opinion from personal experience, instead of others who haven't even sieged. How funny is that!
Lag issues are over estimated from owners of older PC's or limited internet connections. FPS does drop, naturally, but they are pretty smooth for me atleast. This wasn't the case half a year back though.
If you're not lagging like a %^@$# or get one-shotted by anyone (except by PoMs), it may be halfway decent. But as it stands, bugs are still there, class balance issues still left unchecked, pathetic crafting system, loots that don't even say "pick me!". I could go on and on. Not to mention AoC's top hunchos bailing out of the game like rats jumping off a sinking ship. No thanks!
Players I know have usually tried it once and then moved on to other things.
Actually, it's really fun. Trust me.
Players I know usually crave more after their first siege.
U c wut I did thar? Perhaps we can try to go into more detail the next time if you want? Knowing WHY it's not fun might be helpful if you are going to claim such things.

Keep these forums on topic, the topic is Age of Conan - a FunCom game, NOT who posts what and why.
http://forums-eu.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=89615&page=5 - According to the latest reports on sieging, it's still laggy and buggy as hell. *sigh*
To OP..
Yes sieging sure does LOOK fun. Too bad it's not.
Just look at this link Krewel gave us forums-eu.ageofconan.com/showthread.php and read what McGregorSL is saying.
Hah, I was so close to resubbing too. I'm glad I decided to browse the forums before throwing away $$.
It is preferable not to travel with a dead man.

It is preferable not to travel with a dead man.
-> for AoC at release I would say it was for max 1 to 1.5 months maybe ( leveling gaps, lack of pvp levels, bugs, ctds etc.. ).

My own SOLID evidence is the fact that I did a siege last week. Like always, it was a horrible and boring experience.
How about you? Do you even play AoC? And if you do, have you ever tried siege battle? You should try it so you will see why most people don't like it.

Then I am confused. Why would you post a thread for people who "quit" the game...
http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/2658195#2658195
Except that you hate AoC and Funcom.

Lol why do everyone here always demand proof about everything someone else says?
You think Christian cares if you believe him or not? He's probably laughing his as off at your post as we speak.
How about we talk about the game instead of a random individual forum user?

You mean avoid what you are doing now? Ok...no problem. Lets work on that.
Back to the original OP.
I agree, sieges look awesome, and luckily Funcom is making strides to fix the current issues. It is too bad the engine was so harsh as to make coding this in difficult. But, they have made progress and have made it a #1 concern.
Good luck in the game..
To the OP, those are my vids. If anyone thinks Sieging isn't fun check out my latest video!
Then tell me it doesn't look fun :P
That was well done...thanks for adding the Basil P music, as that is what I enjoy the most. The burning bldgs looked cool in the dark..
Cheers to an awesome siege.
Well... I can tell you
IT LOOKS DAMN FUN !!
Well... I can tell you
IT LOOKS DAMN FUN !!
Actually it's not that fun. Trust me.
Players I know have usually tried it once and then moved on to other things.
No thanks!

Actually, it's really fun. Trust me.
Players I know usually crave more after their first siege.
U c wut I did thar? Perhaps we can try to go into more detail the next time if you want? Knowing WHY it's not fun might be helpful if you are going to claim such things.

Cheers

Your saying that it's not fun and to trust you, then in the next sentence you say you know people who tried it and moved on.
So how do you know it isn't fun if you havent tried it yourself? Dont think anyone will trust you after this post lmao.
Gaming since 1985 and still going strong.
