Due to invisible MOBS and syncing issue there was a lot of friendly hits outside the starter towns. However although I saw a lot of gray players, some that hit me more than once in quick succession - I never saw one with a red name. Is this right - do red players have a red or gray name?
And besides the pop up message that notifies you of your rogue flag, how do you know if you yourself are red (short of everyone wailing on you)?

I was red for 3 1/2 hours haha, it can certainly happen.
under your stam/mana/hp bar there is your racial alignment, blue is good, red is bad
i was in since early this morning i saw 3 reds 2 were my own race, dwarf and one was alfar? tried killing all 3 but snyc was so bad it was just not happening.
Edit to complete the answer
Yes red players have red names and enemy races have red names.
played M59,UO,lineage,EQ,Daoc,Entropia,SWG,Horizons,Lineage2.EQ2,Vangaurd,Irth online, DarkFall,Star Trek
and many others that did not make the cut or i just plain forgetting about.
That depends on how you look at it
Love how the fanbots totally ignore OP's question.
"Do red players have RED NAMES or GREY NAMES?"
He didn't ask how to tell if YOU were red, he didn't ask if the red system was working, he asked if you could tell by the name.
Grey is temporary and will go away in a certain amount of time.
Red is from killing aligned players and having alignment drop too far.
Reds have red names. Greys have grey names.
Pretty sure if you become red it will let you know in chat as it does when you turn grey.
Due to sync problems it was hard to kill mobs and players.
Did see several reds - thanks for the equipment! (just corner em so collision detection doesnt let em run away).
Your status shows that - health bar, stamin bar, mana bar and the last is a little tab on the line, which shows your current "karma" color. Red names for killing 3 or more (could be 4), grey name - 1 hit on player will last 10secs, 2hits 1min and it keeps rising.
Yes, he ask how can you yourself tell if you are red. Learn to read!
Yes he did. Love how a retard can totally ignore OP's question to troll with stupid crap like this.
so this was changed in release?
cuz this was a common misperception in beta. enemy races in fact usually had blue names (as long as they didn't gank their own race, they had "good" alignment).

For your name to go red and be flagged you have to actually kill them with the gank action , hence losing alignment and cant go back to blue till you kill a player of a opposing race.
By that meaning then, you are a fanbot that ignored the OP's question. He didn't ask you to explain to others what he meant.
Yes-Red players have red names, greys have grey names.
Fear is the mind-killer
No. You start the game with 10 alignment. You lose 8 alignment for killing a blue player, even if they become incapacitated. You lose 4 alignment for ganking a blue player. Dropping below 0 alignment makes you go red. You raise your alignment by killing red players and racial enemies, each kill and gank worth 2 alignment each.
That sums up the alignment system and red flagging.
I took a screeenshot (ahem).
The little marker on the bottom (4th bar) is changes colour and position on the bar as your alignment changes. You can also mouseover that bar to see your current alignment (you start with positive 10)
