Any sensible development team would have brought out the "Mission Accomplished" banner and forgot all about the server by now.

That's probably because at the moment they are too busy shouting at each other, brandishing their fists at the athens heaven and accusing the gods fot not being supportive enough.

Seriously, the stuff we see happens, if you have no idea of what your are doing, but the firm belief you are able to. There is a good reason while most if not all of the business side of releasing a MMO is outsourced to people with expertise in the field, aka publishers. The developers have enough to do with keeping client and server software alive without the need to care about billing, sales and customer service. And usually they are additionally quite bad at business.

One can only guess and imagine how Aventurine went into the negotiations with the "big publishers" they say were interested and how they fucked up the deal with AudioVisual. My guess is that they treated them the same way they treat their customers: With big words, followed by negligence and as a necessary evil at best.

the beta test they run must have been a single phase i guess..

most companies have open beta as well to stress test everything..

Last big beta i was in was AOC.. they even stress tested their acconuts page getting people create hundreds of accounts to simulate launch date..

Then they also stress tested each bit of the game..

Ok the game turned out to be just a run of the mill mmo its not horrible or anything just not what they promised.. but still it all seemed to work ok as they tested each bit.

I guess its not fair to compare AV to funcom as funcom have tons fo cash to play with.
