I would like to give a salute to Aventurine. Not because they took forever to make the game. Not because of Taso's ability to be endlessly vague and stretch the truth to no end. Not because it was a completely botched launch, with the game servers and forums down for far too long. There is a lot of things people like to bash them for, myself included. But not this time...
This is a salute to Aventurine for doing something different. They had a vision, and they followed through with it. They did not cave in to make yet another EQ/WoW style game to appeal to the masses. They stuck with the ideal of making a game that they themselves would LOVE, not a game that they thought everyone else would LIKE.
If there is one thing the rest of the MMO industry could learn from Aventurine, it's this.

As long as no one uses this as an excuse to give Aventurine any leeway.
"Oh but they're trying something different, something we all want! We can't be mean to them!"
Uh, sure we can. They're part of the market and are subject to the same criticisms as any other company. However, I understand how people like the "rebel", someone who goes back to the "good 'ol days". Good thing that there are already other companies who will take Darkfall's idea and do it better. Aventurine provided a temporary drug.
