I would never macro. I don't understand at all why people would even want to macro. If the game is so boring that you don't want to play it yourself, I'd simply cancel my subscription. This is also the reason why I'd never pay for gold or lvling services. Gaming is my hobby, what's the point in paying someone else to do my HOBBY?
True.. Unfortunately some people confuse gaming with power-gaming.. Gaming is also my hobby.. I do not have to be the best/strongest/baddest etc to have a good time and do what I love doing which is playing games.. But some people their hobby is power-gaming, which is basically doing whatever it takes to be number 1 in any and every game they play.. Gamers and power Gamers do not enjoy the same thing in games especially mmo's..

This is my problem with macroing. I hate macroing and think it is cheating. However, in a FFA PvP Full Loot game, I can almost guarantee 90% of you that say you won't macro, will do it. You cannot have fun in a FFA PvP world if you are miles and miles behind all the power-gaming groups of people coming to gank you 24/7. You'll get extremely frustrated and do exactly what they do so you can keep up and have 'fun' too. That is a main reason why skill based games are still flawed, you can macro all the repetitive tasks and exploit specific builds that almost everyone will copy and emulate.
Its not a problem with skill based games, its a problem with mindless press a button, wait 10 seconds, repeat implementations. Things like ryzom or EQ II's crafting would require quite sophisticated bots to automate simply because there was lots of stuff that could happen while you performed the process. Df there is not you click you wait 11 seconds you do it all again.

You're mixing up "macros" and "botting" which are two totally different things. With macros, you're still playing, you just have to press fewer buttons (like WoW macros to bind multiple spells together into a single key, for example). That's what the discussion is about.
You're splitting hairs. Botting and macroing is fundamentally the same thing. They are both ways to skip things that you should be doing yourself. This is called cheating. Don't make a fool of yourself trying to defend it.
Totally depends on use. In SWG, macro's are considered part of the game. Ask any entertainer (songs that need to be timed precisely for example) )or crafter. They are used while being at the keyboard. This is an intended use of macros.
Botting is different in the way that its made for afk use. Unfortunately SWG has these too and their GM's dont do much about it. This is unintended use of macros.
Then there is the difference between ingame macro features or scripting from outside the game (keyboard or something). Last option is always unintended by the devs of course.
it IS a problem with skill based games, moreso than others. I dont macro and I'll report anyone that does.
No its a problem with boring repative tasks. If any sort of advancement (be it character advancement, monetary gain or whatever) can be achieved by simply repeating a key press or mouse click over and over again, then people will macro it. Whether the game is level based, skill based, phase of the moon based is irrelavant.
The problem is with DF is not that it is skills based but that none of the skills are interactive. Just click wait, click again. Introduce some level of ineractivity and you now have to have intelligent scripts (and players for that matter).
Everyone will macro, its what happens when your game systems are un fun and highly repetitive.
UO learned this, SWG learned this, Shadow bane learned this. Darkfall was developed in a vacuum.

Very well said.
There's something we all have to realize. A great deal of the Darkfall fans are small children between 9 and 15. They aren't playing to have fun in a hobby of their choice. They are playing to be UBER and HARDCORE. They will macro, cheat, hack, power level and twink their way to greatness. Then... They will post online and call all of you carebears for not being as uber and skilled as themselves.
Oh, lest I forget.
They will then yell... "Go back to WOW noobs!"
It's a shame. MMO's are being destroyed by idiots.
Coors & Tarkin I agree that there are people that will do eveything possible to get ahead (though you have no basis to assume they are kids my guess is they are the 20 something crowd predominantly).
But that does not negate the point that all the time that there are boring repetative tasks to do that people will macro them. To eliminate macroing eliminate boring repeative tasks. There are numerous ways to do that.

LOL MANY macro's used in MANY games are not cheating in VG I have keys that allow casting of multiple abilities as long as they are active like chain attacks, thats not cheating thats just makeing it so during a fight I dont have to CLICK the chain ability when it becomes active. People who claim all macroing is akin to botting have NO sweet clue what they are talking about....period...get some knowlage befor you sound like a complete ass.

Most of us know what macros are. My first exposure was Macro-11 for the PDP in the early seventies how about you? Btw if you use VG's inbuilt 'macro' language thats one thing. If you use external programs then you want to check there terms of service. (Or not deends if you are interested in a good understanding of what you are talking about or another armchair 'expert' spouting second hand opinions)
Can't see an obvious way to close the poll. Not sure whether this is statistically signficant, probabbly. It pretty much fits with my 'empirical' view (from beta) that about half the players macro.
Now its just up to Taco Belle to calrify whether macroing is 'illegal' rather tha the waffle statement he released.

Apparently, when it comes to Darkfall, you are in the minority.
Non moronic people is in a minority in Darkfall, period.
If you are playing and haven't ticked the box yet please cast your vote!

poll is fatally flawed due to less than 5% of mmorpg.com posters actually having played the game.
No
That could be said of any single one of the 100's of polls on MMORPG.com (except, to be fair, DF must have the lowest population of any released game)
From beta it always seemed about 50%. i.e half the toons you came across where clearly macroing.
Mind you macroing is the least of AV's problesms with speedhacks and radar hacks appearing.
