We've been promised this would operate just like a Sandbox game.
Where the hell is it?
EVE-Online is a straight up sandbox game.
So stating that... where are the features promised? The economy and the living world dynamic. Is everyone just bent on PvP and capturing towns like its AoC/WAR 5.0?!
Comments
I think we should ask, where is the bucket, the rake and the spade?
Seriously, the economy is 1 day old. Do you think it will be running freely after that amount of time. Most clans are or have been in the process of efforts to get 10k gold to claim a town or hamlet.
>I have been wondering this for some time.
Shut it Columbo.
Sandbox ? what about the sand ?

it's a bit more than 1 day old, and on the first/second day, my friends kept reading off guild after guild claiming towns.
you're not comparing this as the op stated -- to eve. the items which were in place with eve, as opposed to what is/isn't in place with df.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Iiii-iiiiiit's.... me!!! *Hooray*
More like litter box and judging by the smell, the cat has been eating Burrittos.
Part of it being a sandbox is that it is driven by the players.
to be whining that you don't have a fully functioning economy after 2 days of play is fucking idiotic.
get out there and make it happen...
There won't be an economy. The only way to trade with other players is face to face interaction. No way to display what you are selling or complete a long distance transaction.
Good luck getting a player run economy going with no mailbox, player vendors, auction house, or global trade chat.

just grabbing some popcorn,I cant wait to hear the excuses for this one..
As usual with any indy title these days, many many features are missing or just not working. Most of the economic features are not in game yet. Who knows when they will be.
What do you expect for something that is still basically in an alpha state. Everyone playing now recognizes that the game is a long way from being ready yet they still want to play. Nothing wrong with that.
I think the question most players should be asking, is it worth putting time into this game? Chances are not good that this game will survive considering the very shaky status of it.
Here it is, though we will add the sand later. You can still hit each other with the buck and spades while you wait.
I'd say chances are not that bad at all
Look at it this way: AoC with a 120 developers team, huge marketing expenses, etc... has been surviving for months with roughly 100k subscribers. Ok, you will say that they had lots of cash in the bank, have sold about 700k at launch and then more there after; but don't forget that they are selling though retail channels and also have a lot more expenses running a bigger company with northern European and US wages compared to the low Greek ones.
Now, if AoC with 100k subs can survive with 120 devs + marketing + lower margin on retail sales, etc.. I think DF with 30 developers, the low Greek wages, no maketing expenses, no packaging - only direct download, less servers, direct sales to the customers (they get all of the cash minus the Globalcollect commission) should eventually break even with 20-30k subs until the content gets patched in.

We didn't have all that in classic EQ and there was the best player economy I have ever seen in a MMO. But.. there was a way to see what you were going to buy.
That box is put togeather too good to be the foundation of darkfall. Got to remove some of the nails from it it and make it less squarish.

You are missing a key point. AoC lives not because it can support itself. But because AO can support AoC's shortcomings. AO more then makes up for the loses that AoC is occureing. That is why AO's dev team is a small team and they only have two servers. 75-80% of Funcom's profits come pureing from AO. That is also where most of the income came to fund AoC. But that works for Fumcom though because they can do that and keep the company afloat.
Its gone they eather have lied or scrap all of most featers.
Its now a rather simple game with not much depth and only thing you can shape with simple tools is build clancity and pvp.
Not much left of dynamic spawns or any of that all gone.
But deep gameplay rpg style or complex combat or complex crafting/harvesting is not in this game.
World is empty prolly done so not many whine to much when pvping they been killed by mobs now 70% of world is without mobs so no danger at all only when you see other players result also simple gameplay.
But still it can be fun game only its not what they few years up to year ago promised its all gone:(
Its one big arena pvp world thats all.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
cura, that was brilliant.....

More clearly stated they busy macroing lol, even that simplify the whole game:(

Ok, so then at least populate the world with some non-aggressive wildlife (you can still hunt it for skinning/crafting/cooking) and scripted NPCS living in the world to bring it alive, add to this the weather system (should be ready I hear?) and player shops (no trade house please) with a trade channel to get an economy rolling and RPG folks would feel at home.
This is really not much and could be done pretty quickly. It would be enough to satisfy me. If the world feels alive, I have no problem with going out to find the mobs.
Now add to this the housing system and some more goodies and this would be pure awesomeness.
Really not much is missing to make it acceptable, I am sure they can make it.
What the hell do you mean?
You log in, and you can do whatever the heck you want.
You can go PvE. You can go do a quest. You can go solo pk. You can go craft anything you want. You can go anywhere you want to in the world. You can interact with everyone of all races, however you wish to interact with them. You can claim and build a city. You can form an alliance with a guild that owns a city and help protect their land in exchange for usage of the cities amenities. You can go roll in a pk squad. You can skill up and use any weapon you want, whenever you want.
It's pretty damn sandboxy.
There are only a few things standing in the way of Darkfall becoming a truely great sandbox:
Also, players could succesfully argue that having lesser magic and greater magic as pre-reqs for the 'real' magic schools is anti-sandbox, but I think it's a good element. Someone who has been ingame for 20 minutes shouldn't be able to recieve 5k gold from their guild and then go running around casting fireballs of doom.
If they implemented my three bullet points above, and revamped the harvesting system, and added unique specials for each melee weapon, the game would be perfect for me.
So, until then, 7/10.

The noob formally not known as not being the formally not unkown known APEist; The Stone Cold Killer of Tarq.
this must mean shadowbane is a sandbox too...
According to APEist.
WTF do you care, you play WAR. You need to pretend you play EVE to get some cred in here?
