Which one should I get? I'm new to MMO and wondering what game would suit me more. I'll list the pros and cons of each game so you can at least gather a little bit  of info regarding what I like. Keep in mind I've not played both games, just getting my info from forums/vids.

Darkfall

Pros

- Full loot (this appeals to me...wonderi f AoC has it)

- Huge world

- Relatively new

- Lots of armor/weapons (is this true?!)

Cons

- Poor animations

- Boring combat

- Lots of macro (right?)

- Bad sound effects

Age of Conan

Pros

- Great graphics

- Good combat (?)

- Good quests

- Snow mammoth

Cons

- Everyone looks the same (?)

- It's more of a PvE game

- I'll get owned by lvl 80 noobs

So, which one?

    Poor combat in DF???

Its up to you to fight well. Only noobs do the clickfest until they get some player skill. Then they become more of tactical.

I would go for Darkfall. AoC is just a pile of shit. DF have the sandbox player based gameplay. AoC is just another class/level grind child MMO.

If i were you id invest my time in something much more worthwhile  Aoc has horrible pvp mechanics and darkfall's Aventurine is the biggest shit stain out of all the game developing companies. Add lots of bugs  empty worlds and hackers to the cons of darkfall  and ad  4 year old griefers to the cons of both.

Did i mention top guilds being alowed to hack and exploit to their hearts content in DF?

Eh, Darkfall combat is fun to me. You dont just click on someone and they press 12345.

You click, and have to move to hit them, or go in FPM :)

    Are you in a hurry?

If yes, then AoC, since Darkfall is not yet available (only to a limited number of pre-orderers, and the next batch of players will be the remaining pre-orderers).

If not, then wait a bit longer, and gather more info about both games.

I have heard from Darkfall fans that you really have to want to play the game, else it won't be fun. You can't just play it to get your mmorpg fix.

You'll think AoC has good combat if you think this is fun.

Right, but ultimately there's only like 1 animation with your sword...I think animation effects combat.

Well how I did it was I watched some AoC PvP and some DF PvP. The term I used (combat) was gathered from watching some people fight. And AoC had a lot more action, animations and gore in that combat.

Yes but what? I'm looking for a pretty new MMO. Tried WoW and hated it.

So true, to give you a more indepth explanation about that:

The game basically tells you to press numbers 1,2,3,4 in a specific order. If you fail to do so, your combo fails.

Also, if you are up against a fellow player, he won't keep standing neatly in front of you to execute your combo, he will walk away and you can forget about the *innovative combat*.

And this is for melee only, casters just use normal button smashing like in every other game.

Yeah, ill have to agree on what a previous poster said. Take your time, wait for a better game. Maybe Darkfall when it's available. Or maybe something else entirely.

If youre looking for pvp then yes WoW is a terrible choice haha, unfortunately i have no idea where to send you, I enjoy running scenario groups in WAR but   its not really anything like these two games you are comparing.  Honestly i think there is a free trial for Aoc that you might check out but i really wouldn't give either company money til you know what you are getting especially since Aventurine will take your money and give you nothing whilst laughing all the way to the bank.

Edit - Right now is a terrible time for mmos  you might just have to wait for something else to  (probably fail on realease like everything else has) come out.

    save your money...get neither.

and to list mamoth mount as a good thing in the game.. i lol'd since that is what they have been marketing to suck people in... i guess its working on some.

    play:LoTRO status: dragging
tried: WAR, FFiX, WoW, Guildwars, Silkroad, Vanguard, AoC, Sword of the New World

If you hated WoW I don't think you'll enjoy AoC for long. When I played it, the game was too much like WoW.. grind quests, dungeons, raids later on, same level/class/talent system, similar boring crafting system(only AoC's was completely broken).

AoC's few unique features turned out to be nothing but gimmicks:

    - mounted combat wasn't viable

    - the combat is even more "button mashing" than any MMO prior

    - the zones are all multi-instanced, even the player city areas

    - pvp sieges are small-scale

Based on your pro and con list i would say skip both of these games and play Warhammer Online.

It's new, has good graphics, plentiful cool looking gear, PvP focus, RvR zones divided in to tiers prevent getting ganked by high level players, cool mounts.

It doesn't have full loot, and there are some balance and RvR incentive issues they have to work out.  I still think in terms of polish it's far ahead of AOC, and not even in the same league as Darkfall.  If it just comes down to the two choices you list, I say AOC hands down.  Really, just about any MMO on the market will make darkfall look like an like a turd in comparison.

Wait...a AoC trial is out? Can anyone link me to it? if it is?

And Kullision I was just joking, but seriously the mammoth looks pretty cool

EVE is space-ish if I'm not mistaken. I'm looking for something ancient with magic etc. :P

If you're really desperate for a MMO right now and haven't tried AoC yet, i'd say get AoC until they start to actually sell Darkfall and release a few fixes and patches. 15 euro for the game and a free month is a bargain atm. As far as i've heard the first 20 levels on Tortrage are worth it, and with the recent patches if it's your type of game you might even like it in the longterm.

"The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing oar, our only goal will be the western shore."

When I start seeing shield walls and locked in formation fighting ... I might believe this. All I see right now is the Benny Hill Show stlye of fighting where you can hit someone multiple times from behind and they still don't die. If no one needs to watch your back them you can throw group tactics out the window. And I am still yet to see a block in any video or arrow embedded in shields or deflecting spell blasts. It is a click fest and is dammned obvious.

M&B = Intelligent combat with some cringe moments due to AI.  (Quick plug I believe online multiplayer (~32) is coming!)

DF= Slap a thon kiddie leet pwnzor 1337 e-peen fest  with many cringe moments

I am offended Lord Tasos thinks DF combat is anything like MB. I can believe the epeen crowd think its skillful though.

What does that mean? Multi-instanced? Sorry for sounding like a noob.

I haven't played darkfall, but I'm sure you won't be short of info on that game right now.

All I can say is steer clear of AoC. The post someone else made about how the combo attacks get screwed up in pvp all the time is so true and that was one of the reasons why I left the game. It's still like that now, forget what anyone else tells you. Also, in AoC pvp, you can't loot anything - there's no penalty for dying at all which is pretty lame. EVERYTHING is instanced too, so it will feel like a single player game. Lastly, Funcom repeats their flaws in AoC like they did with AO - the damage isn't balanced at all.

My suggestion to you is if you're too nervous about darkfall, just don't play an MMO right now. The market sucks right now and that's the only reason why so many people are willing to put up with the technical / graphics / sound flaws of DF. Basically what that means is when other MMOs come out with similar features (MO, Earthrise, SWTOR) everyone is going to leave DF because there probably won't be any reason to stay.

If you really can't wait that long until those games come out you could apply for the beta of MO or Earthrise as well.

By the way, in case you forgot, don't play AoC.

In AoC, there is a lot of zoning. And instances too.

Multi-instanced means that when a zone is full, a copy of the zone is made to distribute players between.

Same as the different districts that are in cities in guildwars.
