questions from a trial noob

junkrabbitjunkrabbit Member Posts: 7

Hey, trying eq2 for the first time after many of my friends panned it at release. I know it's gotten some major overhauls, but I'm surprised how good it is.

Have some questions, yes, I have googled for a fair amount but to be honest most of it was overwhelming for someone who didn't know a thing about the game. Feel free to answer just parts or whatever.

I figured out that the trial is limited in a few ways, such as sending mail, renting an apartment, and using the broker. Only found those things out though when I was all set to do them - anything else waiting for me to discover along those lines?

Similarly, can I talk in the level globals? If so, what's the command to say talk in 1-9? My various attempts all meet with errors.

Ok, so I made a barbarian berserker and a human wizard. The Berserker is level 20 and got sent to Butcherblock mountains. Now, I think I did every quest I could in Timorous Deep, but these Butcherblock mountain quests seem a good bit harder. Often I was killing mobs a level or two below me, whereas now it seems I'm getting sent to kill mobs my level or a level higher. While I can do it, it's not really working out great - I'm often at half health after a fight, and a number of 21's (I'm 20) have ended up killing me or making me run. This kind of contrasts things I read that suggested grinding on +1 or +2 mobs.

I'm thinking a fair amount may have to do with my equipment. I know timorous deep is supposed to set you up well, but I'm pretty sure I got everything from there and my armor/weapons still range from 10-14 (nothing higher than 14). This seems to conflict with advice I read that said once you're in a new level band (say 20-30) you should get all equipment of that tier (20+) stat. Is that right? There really aren't many quests that I have for gear upgrades. Presumably one would use the broker but that's cut off from me. I'm a level 12 outfitter, but everything I seem to be able to make is lower than what I'm wearing. Any thoughts?

Could someone please suggest a simple low level progression for berserker dps AA's? The options are overwhelming.

Also, if I was to make a new melee dps character - as I've come to find out the berseker is somewhat of a tank more than dps - what's a good choice for soloing?

Thanks much

Oh, I guess it doesn't matter too much anyway since I just found out about a 4th restriction they didn't mention to me. Can't level to 21. Oops! Guess the questions are more or less moot, thanks anyway.

To talk in channels and see what channels you have joined, type:

    /channellist

Should give you a list of the channels you are active in and a number next to each channel.

Type "/3" if 1-9 is number 3 channel and start typing. Not sure if it's restricted or not to trial accounts somehow.

If I remember right the lower level quests are at the dock in Butcherblock.

Berserker AAs, since you can't get past level 20 I wouldn't worry about it, but if you do, read some on the offical boards about the berserker and their AAs.

Solo class, try a Brigand/Swashbuckler or if you are more into mages, Necro/Conjuror.

the old trial cap was level 10 -- I didnt know it had been raised to 20 buts good to hear

regarding TD, it has much better gear than similar zones, some of the jewelry can last you into your 40's

(until you hit Everfrost, which also has good gear)

The old Trial restrictions,  you CANNOT

    eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive_content.vm

    # Join or create a guild

    # Send mail or receive mail from other players

    # Use /auction

    # Speak in chat channels

    # Group or raid invite players in other zones

    # Purchase items from player sales displays or the broker

    # List items on the broker

    # /claim rewards

    # Exceed level 10 (adventure or tradeskill)

    # Trade with players

    # Do tradeskill commission work

    # Purchase, visit or tour a house

    # Send tells to other players (unless the trial player is on the other player's friend list)

Brigand are a very good class...can solo and are very welcome in groups and high dps like your looking for.

Thanks for all the info and hints. I guess I'm a little disappointed by all the restrictions but I understand why they're there. Level capped the wizard and ran a brigand up to 15 already, seems like maybe any class is solo friendly below 20? Either way the levels fly by now that I have the basics down. May have to try being kill fodder on the pvp server to really try anything else new. Still a pretty decent game, all told. It's what, $20USD to buy it which includes a $15 free month? Not a bad deal at all.
