I need some help knowing which classes to try out first. So here is a bit of background to help.
My wife and I played for a few weeks just after release and it just didnt feel right. We since have played FFXI and WoW off and on. We also gave Lotro a try and EQ. Lotro is missing something. We had a blast with EQ but there is an issue with the game and our internet provider.... now that I think of it I wonder if we will have the same problem here....
WoW we like but run out of content way to fast. FFXI we like but we are having enough time to get anything done, doesnt help that everyone in the game seems to like to go as slow as possible when doing anything.
What I have played in the past. EQ bard, loved him to death.
FFXI, Ninja and paladin, loved them both.
WoW, priest, warlock, paladin and druid. Liked the warlock and priest, really liked the druid and loved the paladin.
She always plays some form of healer type. In wow she was a druid.
So I like melee buffer/healer/tank. High survivability.
She likes healer with ok buff/dps ability. and medium survivablity.
Basically we like for one of us to be able to tank or at least be good at faking it and for one of us to support/dps. Speed is not something we care about, we would rather be able to kill something big and scary that takes us two hours than be able to kill the average joe mob at high speed.

the basic duo is anything that can take hits and a healer
the archetype classes are similar to original everquest
ie healer classes are cleric / druid / shammy but less "role" restrictive

Tentonhammer has class guides to look over too

if you do play a bard for the dps/support class, go with Dirge because they can rez too
but would want a tank class that can self heal too tho, if you dont plan to play a primary healer
like a Crusader or Brawler -- unless you want to play a pet mage class
personally I favor druids for healing because they are great for travel too w. their druid portals

Paladin/Shadowknight and Fury/Warden is a good duo. You could also stretch it out to a Paladin/Shadowknight and Brigand/Assassin since Crusaders can heal themselves in emergencies and Scouts can do amazing DPS.
The first duo will rarely ever die, whereas the second duo will kill stuff a lot faster and still have medium-high survivability.
A good site with info is

I think a fury is one good class as it has ports, invis, and does some dps as well as core healing.
For the other one you might like a shadowknight. That give you a tank with good survivability and some fun abilities and spells to play with.

Sounds like Fury is right for your wife, SK would be a good choice to try out if you like the high survivability route, if you can stand a little less survivability with more utility and DPS then give a Swashbuckler a shot.
My g/f and I have played a Dirge/Warden duo up to lvl 77 and it's worked out pretty good.
My Dirge has a harder time holding aggro and takes more damage than a SK/Paladin would but her Warden does a good job keeping me alive and we both have escape skills.
If you want to play a Bard with his diverse talents it IS possible.
I can't imagine not having stealth, track, run speed, safe fall so I can go places others cannot.
Enjoy!
If you want my opinion Inquiziter is actually one of the best healer/buffer/DPS classes in the game for priest so maybe your wife should consider that. Not to mention it gets heavy armor so survivability is more likely than any other priest to actually stand its ground when being beaten to death by agro, perticually if ya playing SK since they have a nack for taking on large group of mobs which sometimes can get a little out of control and end up piling onto the priest for a moment while the SK tries to pull them off again.
I agree with the SK class cus as I said, this class sure can take on alot at once and has life tap which not only heals you but does damage to every mob that attacks you!
Should your missus want to consider a more defensive buffer approuch rather than DPS, she should consider the counter part of Inquiz which is the Templar as they have more wards. Bare in mind that Templar are on the good side and SK is on the bad so you may wanna consider being on the both side if ya want to share a home. So in this case Inquiz might be your better option.
