I live in australia should i just walk away

I live in australia and therefore experience lag in stable games that don't have fps combat mechanics. Given the combat mechanics and the reports of lag will it be impossible for me and other aussies to play this game competitively?

It would be hard enough for you with a big company with enough resources to make you able to play, one server in Germany?

    Sorry, mate!

We have people from Australia in our clan, and they had a tough time to dl the game. I will speak with them today and see how it went ingame.

I dont think it matters where you live, the sensible thing currently isnt to walk away totally, but certainly wait and see where this ends up two months from now.

Suppose if someone gave you the IP of the server you could traceroute to it ? I know traceroute packets might not be given high priority but meh least you could see if it is possibly feasible?

Don't expect AV to talk about Australia anytime soon.. they barely even mention NA and can barely cope right now let alone brining in new markets.

apparently Tacos said the australians can legitimately use speed hacks cos their ping is so bad .. go Aussies!! woot!

I was in beta and am currently playing.

    I use bigpond, from Queensland.

Constant ping of between 380 - 440 all through beta and now live.

Doesn't spike during battles (although no-one at all has had >100 player battles yet).

Certainly playable, hardly notice any lag or sync issues (however I would advise you use a polearm, as it is the most forgiving of the melee weapons in regards to twitch response time).

Will definitely be changing to US servers when they are released - <180 ping US.

I play from Korea and I would guess my connection is a bit similar to the connection from Australia. I have 300-400 ping which is not much of a problem in PvE. I don't know for sure how well it will work in PvP yet, but you will be able to enjoy the game with this kind of ping, but maybe not fully. It's impossible for them to even out the latency disadvantage completely, but they did a good job.

For comparison, I get about 50ms ping.

This is very low and much lower than I get in other games.

Ping isn't everything though as the server lag is much greater.

eg Consider the (variable) delays in gravestones popping up and then the time it takes before the cursor changes so you can loot...  Sometimes I get straight in other times the loot is all but gone before I can get in.
