So I've been playing Darkfall since release and I just have to say I haven't felt these adrenaline rushes since my first days in Ultima Online back in 1999.
Every time I leave one of the newbie cities I'm constantly scanning the horizon for danger. The least of my worries are NPC's. Roving bands of goblins or trolls can kill me, but I have a fair shot at escaping.
A few of my typical experiences:

I found an isolated cave with some skeleton warriors and I start killing them. Retreating and resting when I can. I'm pretty focused on them because the A.I. is challenging. They'll use magic and arrows at range, switch to melee when I get close and run if low on health while their buddies pepper me with arrows or magic. Anyway, I'm pretty intent on whacking and looting when all of a sudden out of the blue a giant cat leaps into my sideview and someone whacks me. My heart skipped a beat. I was low on health and stam - my pack full of goodies. I immediately thought he was an Alfar and ran. My heart racing I ran back to the safest area I could find - a small dwarven guard tower in the middle of nowhere. Turns out the guy was a Mirdain. An alliance elf type. He whacked me to scare me and it worked.
Another time I was mining near a newbie city, minding my own business trying to get some iron ore, when BAM I get hit in the back. I get pushed up onto the top of my rock. By the time I can turn around to see who or what - My health is down to about 20%. I see who it is - a mean looking Ork riding a death pig. If he hits me again, I'm dead. I think he has buddies, but I don't even have time to look. I take off sprinting for town. Somehow I make it, don't know how, but I think he had trouble turning his pig around. He should have followed me, I had like 10% stamina left from all the mining. But my adrenaline was pumping, I had a buttload of ore.
Another experience I'll tell you about is when I'm mining out in the middle of nowhere. I got the occasional traffic running by, checking me out. But they were all alliance races and pretty much left me alone. A human tapped me once, probably to make sure I wasn't macroing. If you're macroing out in the middle of nowhere and someone comes along to investigate - even if they're an alliance race I bet there's a good chance they'll kill just because you're macroing. Anyway, I'm mining and suddenly I'm surrounded by these dark looking creatures. I think they're Alfar. I stop and equip my measly newbie hammer. About 8 of them, all dressed in black armor and wearing what looks like black eyeshadow. We all just stood there, staring at each other for about 30 seconds. My heart is racing thinking, "crap I gotta fight, I'm totally surrounded, I wouldn't be able to push through all of them." -- then, just as suddenly as they appeared, they ran off. I figure they must have been Mirdain patrolling the dwarven lands. Alfar would have killed me on sight.
So just wanted to give you all some of my experiences, especially from a newbie perspective because y'all will be that when you get in.

Wanna get your heart pumping and the adrenaline flowing? Take 30 minutes on a treadmill.......

Wanna sit around do nothing and still not get bored? Play a video game......

I don't see how exactly one can combine those 2 (adrenaline rush-playing a video game) unless that person manages to play a video game while running on a treadmill

"When we feel fear or are faced with a sudden dangerous situation, the human body undergoes an amazing change. The stressor -- for example, the sight of your son pinned beneath a car -- stimulates the hypothalamus. This region of the brain is responsible for maintaining the balance between stress and relaxation in your body. When it's alerted to danger, it sends out a chemical signal to your adrenal glands, activating the sympathetic system, which sends the body into an excited state. These glands release adrenaline (epinephrine) and noradrenaline (norepinephrine), hormones that create the state of readiness that helps a human confront danger. Together, these hormones raise heart rate, increase respiration, dilate the pupils, slow down digestion and -- perhaps most importantly -- allow muscles to contract."

I don't know if it can be any clearer. You don't have to be outside dicking around and being extreme for this reaction to happen. Whether it be virtual reality or real life, you can sense fear or any other feelings. So stop being ignorant and read a little. Games cause plenty of chemical reactions in the brain, including the one that causes adrenaline.

    Thread over.

If you turn and someone is there who wasn't there before you can be startled and have adrenaline rush to your brain. If someone talks real loud while you aren't paying attention - same thing.

If I'm playing a videogame and some shit startles me in the game, I'll probably get an adrenaline rush. I don't play a game and think I'm doing something amazing, but if some shit surprises me in the game and gives me a rush, big deal.

I find that the people who get the most defensive about this are people who are ashamed that they play videogames and are probably just insecure in general.

Are you talking about RL here or video games? I tend to separate those two and try not to confuse them. Video game scare? If it ain't real it can't scare me the taxe-notification scares me, my geography teacher used to scare me (he's dead now...i had nothing to do with it) even seals scare me but video games....nah

    bullshit

You can get a rush in a game, you can get a rush cliffjumping off a 130 foot cliff, running from the cops.  you don't have to be dumb to kick it

I get what you are saying, but the fact is that he is holding gaming as his holding rush in life.  Im not sure what "dumb" has to do with it being that alot of people make alot more money than most of us doing dumb things, but there are alot more functional means of lift to get a rush.

Gaming should be fun, a release, to forget the real world, not to be alive.  Not to feel that rush of excitment and fear, happiness, all at the same time.

That was my point... just go outside and find your mortality outside of a computer, regardless of if I think darkfall sucks or not.  Its pathetic.

People react to things differently, Ive gotten rushes of playing PvP games before its the suspence factor just like some movies, ive had my heart pounding from watching a movie before.  The brain is a powerful thing and can release chemicals to give you  a rush from rollercoasters (which i totally love) or PvPing it up on a game.

Hell if someone can get a rush from a video game more power to them, its a lot cheaper than doing some of those things you said.

I felt the adrenaline rush yesterday

I was hunting goblins and such one guy turned grey So I started hunting him down

Very soon we were off the towers or other players .The guy stopped running and started attacking me We were both heavily equipped .Soon both of us were near to death and I felt the adrenaline rush, Thats it either he is going down or me and I lose all our loot.

Suddenly we sw a grp passing bye. Both of us withouty communicating on our own decided to take an easy escape rather than fall easy prey to the group

Lol heart was beating fast till I reached the towers I had over 1000 gold on me at that time .

Most of teh time I liek to hunt down greys though more fun goblins

I just thought I would mention that I go jogging every night at around ten o'clock.  The only time it's ever given me an adrenaline rush was when I was listening to my music a little too loud and didn't notice the car coming from behind me with its headlights off till it blew past me at about 50mph on a 25.

On the note of rushes from video games, one comes clearly to mind, way WAY back in the day when I played runescape (yes, I admit it) I decided to wander in the wilderness for some reason. (this was before clue scrolls and the like).  I had just bought my gleaming set of full steel and I thought I was on top of the world, then suddenly I get with that spell that binds you and I have little blue sparks flying at me dealing truck loads of damage.  I can feel the adrenaline and I start to shake as I down all the fish in my inventory and run for the south.  I did make it back with about 7 health left.  This moment is from way WAY back in the day of my gaming career but I can still remember it clearly because of the rush it gave me.  There have been more since then, but I remember that one especially clearly.

I think alot of it relates to the full loot.

man, I really like all these darkfall threads... totally the same in every single thread...

Some guys like it/ love it, others hate it... spam, spam, spam... why they hate it, why they hate it, why it sucks, why it is so cool...

Those of you who like the game... be glad and happy, play it and write your experiences on the darkfall forum.

Those of you who don't like the game... let the others like it and just don't write shit about Darkfall. It seems that Darkfall is fun for a nice playerbase here and just let them have fun, because that's the point of a game - fun.

But I'm just annoyed or better nerved by 1000000 Darkfall threads being all the same...

    just my 2 cents...

    pain

P.S. don't try to change someones opinion, because everyone is allowed to have his own opinion!

"Mortality outside of a computer and we know nothing of real life"...pretty strong words from two forum pvpers. I bet trolling in the Darkfall forum is what gives you the adrenaline rush.

Yes I do get a rush from playing full-loot mmos. I never got that feeling in a PVE mmo, and thats why I like games like Darkfall and UO. I also get the rush when I watch my footballteam, and that rush is better than the mmo rush. I used to get the adrenaline rush when we had arrival of major car accidents at the x-ray department I used to work, but I dont get that rush now when I threat dying kids with cancer.

I dont know why I get the adrenaline rush from a footballmatch or a videogame, but I just love it. Maybe its the fear of having to grind npcs if I lose my stuff :)

Slamming the OP for having an adrenaline rush in a video game?

Some speak as if this is a bad thing ....... how strange.  To me things like an "Adrenaline Rush" in a game are what defines how much I'm enjoying the game.  It's just a level of immersion that can't be had with every game ....... very few to be honest.

Like when, in game, I jump off a tall cliff into a lake or river and get that feeling of falling in the pit of my stomach.  I get that every time while playing Darkfall.  Does it mean that it's the greatest game ever made?  No, it just means that I find it to be a very immersive game.  That's a good thing and it seems I'm not alone.

For those that don't get these feelings while playing a game.  I don't know what to tell ya, perhaps you could just shave your head and stroke your epeen on a forum site somewhere and get whatever it is your looking for.

Well, if DF can give me the same rush that i had being a perma overt jedi being tracked down by a BH in SWG pre-cu then i can't wait to try it out. That was the some of the funniest times i ever had and if anyone that never had the oppurtunity to get that feeling while playing a game, just missed out.
