Why do MMO'S always screw up Archer/Ranger Classes?

In Warhammer the Shadow Warrior is all Gimped to hell...the word "Shadow" has NOTHING to do with his abilities. The all mighty Squig Herder is even better than the high elf ranger????????????? WTF
In Vanguard the Ranger is all jacked up also. Always has been in Vanguard, the dev's keep talking about adding some tracking to the vanguard ranger for years, yes years. And, the Vanguard Ranger is useless in raids.
Enlighten me on LOTR if anyone plays the ranger in there and in WOW ( I don't play WOW)
Is the Ranger worthless in all MMO"S?
And have any MMO's gotten it right with the Ranger??
I know Guild Wars Ranger was pretty awesome and still is, atleast better than most archer classes in MMO's

In Everquest 2 the ranger is pretty good at PvP, very, very good in hard dungeons and awesome in Raids.

Shadow warriors hit harder than Squig herders in endgame
Vanguard rangers were highest dps for months and it has heals and other nature magic.
Lotro ranger is most played class and does lots of dps and can trap
Wow has a hunter which was the most played class and is easily the best class to have with you in a 5 man dungeon for a dps roll
EQ did the ranger right. It had its bow abilities but also lots of druidic abilities.
Only two games i've played that I liked the ranged classes were DAoC and LotRO. In DAoC it was very life-life, you had a draw time and your shots didn't instantly shoot you had to wait for the draw to come. You could hide in the shadows and wait for people to come by and snipe them (used to be better before the bow nerf a long time ago). Hunters could summon familiars to aid them in combat. Rangers had some very nice buffs. Scout had the highest damage per hit of the three. Three different styles of playing the Ranged classes, all of which were unique and fun.
In LotRO, they made it so you were truely like a Ranger from the Movies, think Faramir. You could fast travel by using "secret paths" you know, aka teleporting. Your damage was really high, and you could actually hold your own in melee, but bow was alot better. Alot of the pve fights in LotRO ended before the enemy even got to you. When they did you could whip out your dual daggers, axes, etc and pwn em.
actually I always loved my VG Ranger class (yes it is missing tracking) but everything else about the class is great and fun to boot.
EQ2's ranger class is also fun to play and done right, keep in mind these are my personal opinions, and I have played a ranger class since back in the day with P&P games.
Technically they quite a bit more powerful than they are historically
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
actually i would say the Vanguard ranger is by far the best one of the lot. For me a ranger should be as close to the DnD ranger as possible and the Vanguard one fits this (almost) perfectly.
WoW gimped the hunter by giving him a pet and forcing its use (both hunters and pet eventually got nerfed)
Aside from those 2 i would say Rangers/bow users tend to be decent but screwed up in one way or another (dps, pets, skills, lore..ect)
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
DAoC and EQ2 made rangers/archers right, imo.
Rangers/hunters are done in so many different ways that I usually try that class first.
Sometimes they play more like rogues but with bows, sometimes there casters or even animal tamers.
Most of the rangers i;ve played have been pretty good.

I think all three archer classes in DAOC were a perfect fit. If not, sometimes, overpowered

LOTRO did the hunter class pretty well, IMO. I'd like if it had a bit more focus on druidic capabilities and the tracking system sucks, but otherwise it's a pretty solid representation.

Hunter class in LoTRO is fine.
Ranger in EQ is also a good class. Sony did some tweaking before they got it right.
Archery in darkfall is almost overpowered. if you are good you can take out almost anyone.
