This is to the idiots who think there are actually half a million people waiting to play this game.
While it is true there are 300k forum members, most members have several accounts.
The truth is, there were only around 10-15k downloads on the torrent client, that is, if utorrent shows all peers to everyone. There were only 15-16k subscribers to the pre- order, as the ID people got indicated, of which a huge amount had trouble getting an active/working account because of their system not analyzing account information on validity instantly, like CCP does with EvE.
IF there were only 15k downloads, given some multibox, and given some download it of friends which have downloaded it of the torrent, or given on DVD-r by friends, the max amount of players actually wanting to buy this game at this stage is ardoun 30k to max 50k.
Now the 'genius' idea by them was to cut off the supply at about half. Having 10-15k in the game and 10-15k waiting to get in.
This creates the illusion of there being a HUGE amount of players waiting outside still... as those not in, will suffer and become quite loud on the forums.
Now they take it a step further, and open the shop, telling everyone when it is going to be opened, just so they can show how high in demand their game is. The shop was open for around 15-20min at best, and was already "sold out" again.
Sure if you let 2000 out of 10k waiting still, in, this creates the illusion there is a huge amount waiting out there still
Ofc they could just let everyone order the game, and let them into the game according to their number #ID in small waves, depending on how much the server can take, allowing for normal people who have a job and a family, and cannot stay for hours in front of their screens hitting F5, to also participate.
I guess this would just have been too easy.
Now i really wished this game the best for the 2 years i was following it, but the way they treat their customers (most of them actually not noticing and defending this company still), turned me into a hater.
If i told you that in order to play my superb game, you have to firstly eat a pile of horseshit, wouldn't you lose some dignity if you did that?
Thats what aventurine has done to those sad beings which need their fix, and which will flame me now for pointing this out to them. They served you a pile of horseshit, you ate it, and you are even greatful for it defending them at all cost.
I ve never seen such a supportive community for a game before. Basically wanting to send aventurine their money, car and their first born - yet them not accepting it,
thinking that torturing everyone with the shittiest release since the BIG BANG would be much more fun.
This company has been lying to us all over the years, the most notable lies being:
...starting with there will be a trial for all to test the game, (yes Tasos said this.. go look it up if you want)
...there wont be any pre-orders or any benefits for people pre-ordering (like a mammoth), basically mocking the aoc launch back then ( yep, you can go look this one up too)
The game does certainly have some appeal still, but i think that once people wake up and realize how they are treated,
realize that even though they said the game is polished and betatesters constantly kept pointing them at exploits to fix, they never fixed...
realize that in order to have a full server (given you want the 10k players on the server) you need at least 50k subs, because it is only at the beginning people play 24/7. The average is 2-3 hours meaning you need 8-12 times the subs to get a full server.
This game being extremly harsh on deaths means there will be also alot of people leaving, once they realize it is them being ganked, not as they hoped for, the other way around. This along with cheats they seem to not be doing much against, will result in low numbers, which will result in even lower numbers.
This would have been no issue if they treated the rest of their customer base well, there might have been enough new players to fill up the spots, but what i see now is, most turning their back to never return.
I planned to play this with 2 friends playing wow atm, and 1 playing aoc still.
After seeing that launch, they decided they would not even try it.
Personally i am going to EvE and will stay there till something new comes out. Hopefuly starcraft ghost/online as an mmorpg with decent pvp.
Mortal Online or Earthrise are also something i am looking at, but i won't check them before they release the games. Done with following games and mentioning them to others, then being treated like shit at release. At least like this i wont care.
Why i write all this even though i do not care about this game anymore?
Because i feel like i had to give em back some of the hate they gave to us, espacially to make up for all the free advertising they got of me, just by mentioning the game to others.
*casts flame protection VI on self*
bring it on!
EDIT: I am not sure how i am going to excuse myself about this... but here is how the story goes:
After all this i described above, i went to EvE online to extend my old trial which has about 100mil ISK on it.
On my attempt to enter my visa's prepaid CC number info, i make the mistake to instead of 01/2011 enter 11/2011 - and getting a not authenticated error.
After doing this about 15 times, according to my bank i phoned to ask for why i could not register, the have blocked every further attempt, again according to my bank.
So it was around 9pm in greece, and i thought i would just for fun try out an account for DF, just to have a good laugh till my EvE petition goes through.
To my surprise... this time i got through. LOL - My curiosity to see this game, still, was much greater than my deep hatred for AV which built up. Knowing this is pathetic, i could not escape my subconscious self, and just HAD to order the game.
Again to my surprise, the game looks great. Espacially what some people were sceptical about, the graphics, turn out to be one of it's major strenghts. The world is gorgeous and immersive, huge, without the feeling you got in AoC of being enclosed by invisible walls.
I cannot make a final verdict as i was so exhausted, i was just running around the world exploring the terrain, and then fell into my bed like a rock.
I know for sure that i will be exploring this game for quite long now. There is definetly the feeling ,of me wanting to see more of this, within me right now...
Atm the exploiters and the lack of local banks are my main concern, and ofc AV being jackasses.
This leaves me in a win win situation however.
If the game goes down, it will make me happy, knowing AV deserved it after all that i was complaining about.
If it succeeds it will make me happy because this game seems to have huge potential based on it's immersive and huge world alone.
I will have to experience more, before i make a final statement.
AV definetly does not deserve this good PR, but you deserve to know how the game looks like from the view of someone just entering it.
Soon there will be more of me, once i got a grip of what is going on. So my final verdict is not spoken yet.
re-EDIT: the servers are OFFLINE atm btw, which is basically why i wrote all this, and yes, you can point fingers at me and laugh now, playing a game i dissed so much, however when i wrote the above, i exactly felt that way. Human nature just isn't rational always, or is it?

What OP said.
I'm Awesome, Deal With It.
Didn't use the torrent to download.
i was thinking of playing this game but i think im going to wait a month to see if the game is still in the same state it is in now. i really dont care about getting ganked. it happened to me a hell of alot in AoC and im kinda used to it now. full loot however is a whole different animal. sounds kind of fun right now but that opinion could change after i lose everything a coulple hundred times.
Yea I have been pretty disappointed with Aventurine as well. At this point I think the company has completely failed at launching this game. They have recently gone from failure to failure. Terrible communication, seemingly an inability to stop hacking, they seem much too small to even handle 2-3 servers with 10k per, let alone able to support 100-200k players.
I think the game has potential, but if the company managing it is as much of a failure as they currently appear to be it could be a rough ride. I keep telling myself, this is their first game, they are small, they are dedicated to the game so it should get better, once they make some money they will hire more staff and invest more into it.
Sadly, I have been following the game for years and almost feel like I owe it to myself to try it out.
On a side note:
They do have 350K forum members and I did see 6000k+ on the forums earlier today which is pretty good for a company that hasn't advertised much and has just released their first game.
yeah...not to mention the MANY post on this.....already
"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to. Relax....."
I think you are right in this statement. Alot of the old accounts are inactive and some have more than two accounts including myself. My hope is that Darkfall gets enough customers to keep the game going. If they get 100k they`ll have more than AoC and 150k will be the same as Lotr.
I wish to play Darkfall, but I don`t panic if I have to wait a month or two. The reason is simple, I know I will play this game for a long time and I don`t have to put up with the messy start. Sure some players will have citys, more skillgain and better armor, but that`s no problem. The softcap on skills will let me be able to catch up fairly quick, I can loot their armor and join a guild with a city or a guild who wants to conquer a city.
Good luck in EVE. It`s an awesome game if you like a space mmo.

There really is no rush to get it, let them beta test it for us then get in when its been patched and a new server opens. I just don't like how it has been handled and how Aventurine really shows how young of a company they are. Can you trust them to manage the game well after they had a horrible launch.

awesome answer....rarely seen here.....

"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to. Relax....."
Bit Torrent wasn't the only way to get the Client. Fileplanet it had it up and hosted by the 26 of Feb. Where did you pull the numbers from that everybody has 7 accounts? You sir talk of a load of crap!
Well it's pretty logical really about each fanboi having 7 forum accounts.
1 main account and 6 religous accounts to preach their prayers.
OP said several accounts not seven.
what he ACTUALLY said was:
"Our hope for Darkfall is that you won't spend a cent on the game until you've tried it and decided you want to play it."
...and this has been magically turned into the following:
"we promise that..."
...because most people who cry about "waa they lied" are just simply morons.

So now you DFO worshippers are going even so far in your preaching that you start altering Tasos his statements as a desperate last resort of defending the game? My god you guys really are something.
He never used the word *promise*, but he never used the word *hope* either.
He simply said *Everyone will be able to try the game for free before buying it*. Wich basically is a promise.
So try harder next time.

That article is old! Almost a year old man!
Go search for later articles and statements. He didn't use the word *hope* anymore.
Altho I have to give you credit for digging that deep to find an article where he used that word lol.

there aren't any, go look. ALL the whining & crying about "tasos lied to us about free trial" comes from misinterpreting that 1 statement.
yes that's really how stupid you all are.
Everyone knows why they are SOLD OUT! It's because they never stressed the servers in beta and they don't have a Publisher, so they are handling all the sales by hand from PayPal (?).
So, in this most recent sale, they probably only had 500~900 new subs... and they must wait to see how the server handles the load. So, we will see at least 3 or 4 more of these "sales"... hoping to moderate all the atrocities and minimalize the bad press until they have to fold the doors!

Awsome. I didn't know I could just say hey I'm right go look it up your self when making persuasive arguments. I blame the school systems....
Anyway sorry buddy but you have to back up your claims with some sort of proof, so far argument goes to javac.
My opinion matters to everyone...
Were people really under the illussion that this game which had sold only 7-8k units did infact have 300k people waiting to buy it?
-----
The person who is certain, and who claims divine warrant for his certainty, belongs now to the infancy of our species.
Once its sales are up and running we 'll all go and buy the damn thing since we are all addicted motherfuckers. Rest is nerd rage of not being in game so far,
well there are 350K forum subs now, and growing at almost 5K/week, and 2500+ online on the forums on a regular basis so there really is no shortage of demand atm...
more likely, the number of people hanging out to buy DF is prob in the 50-100K range, with i would guesstimate 10-20K current subs.

I love that this was the exact thing many skeptics including myself were complaining about before release. We had fanboys stating left and right that we will all definitely get to try the game before we buy it and i always asked for the link to the quote and no one could give it to me where he definitely said we will get a free trial.
Now we have haters (not skeptics, "haters") using the exact same point to claim that aventurine lied and some fanboys (not that you are nearly as rabid as the ones in the past) stating that it had never been claimed as definite. (Like the skeptics said all along)

I found the link... www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/4/feature/2597/Darkfall-Launch-Delayed.html
direct quote "Starting on January 22nd there will be a Darkfall trial with the distribution of the release candidate client allowing thousands of players to sample the game for free, help us stress test our servers and test the final features of the game."
The quote is very specific, thousand of players are able to sample for FREE. There is double lie in here. First of all, you have to pre-order the game, so thats not free (1st lie). And, there is a "minimal activation" fee for each preorder (2nd lie).
The activation fee is unheard of in this field, they charge to activate my account? Maybe next time they will charge me for each log on? This is crazy.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Hmm... wouldn't get too high on my horse if I were you.
Back when the statement was made, even fans were arguing it meant there would be a free trial for people before they bought it. The official line from fans was, "Tasos *said* there will be a free trial! Try harder trolls!"
Then, of course, as soon as that didn't happen, the same fans (like clockwork) immediately did a 180 and started with, "He didn't *promise* there would be a trial! Try harder trolls!"
True to form, the fans will change their argument as many times as necessary, to be "right" and to call the other side "trolls".
Just like Jan 22nd... Just like "no pre-orders"...
