On the account page:

"[If your card name (first name) is more than 15 chars then it will be rejected by the payment provider ]"

So basically

You need to legally change your name, and get new credit cards issued to your new name in order to get a chance at buying a darkfall account.

Thankfully, if your name was Fifteenletters, you would be able to buy Darkfall.

If your name was Fourteenletters, you would be right on the line.

It only sounds like gibberish because it's German.

Sadly, I think Mahershalalhashbaz wouldn't work either. I can't buy Darkfall now !!!

Crap!...my first name is Tedddddddddddddy.  Not fair. Honestly, how many people out there have first names over 15 characters? anyone?..I'm ignorant of  many of our worlds cultures..but I do believe any culture that might name their children with first names like Abodalasashapalia...are not likely to have Darkfall released anywhere in their country or surrounded countries...or villages.

Have you ever taken a look at the Finnish language Suomi?  A fourth of the words seem to be over 15 characters long!

What kind of an excuse is this? Not many people probably have a very long first name. Yeah...so? Is that any excuse for them to put the game off limits for them.

Just another piece of amateurisch business practices on behalf of Aventurine. Seriously...they might have made a game that appeals to some people, but they -SUCK- big time as a company.

  • Looks like you're stuck buying an account from ebay.  Might as well buy one that's already leveled for ya.

tbh though, i wish my parents named me "ballsofsteel".

One of the most culturally ignorant post on these boards. Congratulations.

    LOL

Each day brings something new to add to the list of why Darkfall is pure fail.

Oh don't worry soon we will be hearing about credit cards being used in other countries far away from the owner and multiple charges. I would feel no sorrow because if you are stupid enough to use an unsecured payment system you deserve to be dragged in the dirt.

It is amateurish ..because they are , in a way, amateurs. A small company taking on a great endeavor and still chugging along after several years. Probably expended a lot of resources too and scrambling even now for more,..hoping for a profit..but happy to start out breaking even.  This is not a big deal. Many info applications...i.e like setting up payment plan for an mmo or purchasing off amazon...have character string limitation for storage reasons. Fifteen seems about normal. Even paypal has a string limitation for name info...I think total is 32 for both. Many do not even utilize a strict comparison when a transaction takes place....usually all of the cc#..exp date and most of the time the signature code on the back .I  remember as recently as 2 years ago..whenever i had to manually verify credit info for my job ....certain card companys could verify with a few characters of first name...last name...block number and  first few street name letters..sometimes suffix and  always zipcode.  . I am no fanboi for Darkfall...I follow it occasionally...will probably give it a go..but often puzzled that this forum can go for days with every post  being about Darkfall...usually finding some meager point like this one with which  to beat a horse-like carcass....

I am dissapointed. The title of this thread lead me to believe that somewhere in here I was going to read the sentence "Darkfall is so hardcore it won't even let you buy it."

Just get one of those prepaid CC's... so youll have to pay an extra 5$ when you first buy it and then its a $1 charge each purchase. No biggy.

It's probably due to some sort of limit on Greek CC's.

  • heartlessheartless Member UncommonPosts: 4,993

Since they are obviously entering billing details manually into their system, the more letters they have to type, the longer it will take.

I'm just wondering, since they are located in Greece and since a lot of Greeks have really long first and last names, I guess Greeks are not able to get an account.

  • BarCrowBarCrow Member UncommonPosts: 2,195

Storage ...like I previously stated is part of the reason. Mostly..they just don't need a exact duplicate..just a particular formula to verify cardholder info. Like facial recognition programs...when verifying identities only certain points of the face are compared...not every feature...thus shiteloads of time  and storage info saved. same with fingerprints...nothings infalleable but the margin of error is usually very very slim. Therefore..even tho Georgiopolifilopolis Dukakis may only be able to enter Georgiopolifilo  in the first name field...he will likely still be able to buy and subscribe to Darkfall online.

I have double last names, wonder how they process an order if I type three names which I would have to do - both last names and the first name...the first name is only four letters though :)

  • shukes33shukes33 Member Posts: 1,051

Just a small point....it's nothing to do with the first name.....if your whole name on your card including title, as in Mr, is more than 15 it wont type in unless you can get it to autofill. Didn't actually notice in the OP's post where he said "first name"!

Including empty spaces in between the names? If so I'm fucked if I ever want to buy this game...hopefully when they have got through this rough start they will fix a proper shop and payment system.

  • TalRashaTalRasha Member UncommonPosts: 827

Just type 15 letters of your firstname and pretend that's it.

I'm sure payment transactions work fine with that.
