My cousin was "lucky" enough to get a place in the second round. He's still wondering aloud just why he was so excited given the product he got. Horrible graphics and lame one-button pounding. He says he never had such a sore index finger.

After playing his toon and messing around I can sum the entire game up in one sentence:

A glittering jewel of  colosally boring game time with nothing to do but engage in nerd rage.

It;s a lame, poorly-thought-out boring monolithic gank fest. It's one gigantic horse race to see who can get all the good stuff first and engage in infantile self-congratulation for really doing and accomplishing nothing but pounding at something.

Why have any graphics at all? Just have sentences scroll by...."you are ganking noobs"......"you take the loot" ....etc....etc... ad infinitum.

Maybe they should have done somethibng like EVE on the ground. Would have been better.

My grandfather's cousin on my mother's side's friend got a DF account and I watched him play.

 

AND he said it rocks!! and I said the same thing!!!

Darkfall definitely isnt for everyone. DF is a game that is in the spirit of Ultima Online, Asheron's Call, and Shadowbane. You are right its not pretty, but the core game mechanics are what old school mmoers like myself have been waiting for.

Everyone pretty much knew DF was going to be a niche game, I'd even bet most of the folks who started playing MMO's since 2004 will find it repulsive. But understand, the stuff you hate is the stuff we love.

Lots of folks like WoW raiding... but for me it can all be summed up as going through the same dungeon every week killing the same scripted encounters over and over again till the next expansion comes out and you can do it again.

Is that a fair review of the WoW raiding system? Well... if you have my interests, yes. If I were a wow player that enjoyed the game, it wouldnt be a fair review. Same with your review on DF. If you loved UO, Asheron's Call Darktide, and or shadowbane, you will most likely love this game.

If you think WoW and LOTRO are the best mmo's you ever played... you probably will not like it.

One thing I will say though. Aventurine has definitely screwed the pooch on the way they have handled release... however, I do have to kind of eat my words and say they managed to release a game with out a stress test that isnt crashing 24/7

That  can be said for every mmo out there, except for those that win money by them playing competitively.

 

"Hey guys we are really great because we farmed one hundred million bricks to unlock the gate of the Demon lord and then we are even better because we got Dave the first set of Super Skull pantwear on the server."

 

Although, in reality, all you did was sit in front of a glowing box for hours on end pushing keys and clicking a mouse to manipulate some polygons on in a virtual game world.  Unless you count that sort of thing as an accomplishment.

One thing:  EvE was shallow when it was first launched as well. Why? Because all the players were noobs and hadn't built the comunity up yet. This is how sandbox games are: shallow for the first month or so, then BAM fukin sweet!!!
