I played AOC in beta and release. Boring is a fair description of the repetitive grind that was one of the major factors in me leaving, but i hear they have fixed this and a lot of the other issues so im also considering reactivating my account to see.
The -7th- Legion Locked, loaded, armed and ready! Evil hasn't got a prayer! "veniremus, percussimus, nos victi" -7-
but on second thought, is it even worth my money?? some say its about as boring as they come.... after level 20. opinions?
On these forums most people will say Age of Conan is the most amazing game ever but outside in the real world most people didn't like the game.
There is a reason why 85-90% of players quit. Endgame is boring and the whole AoC experience is more like a single player game.
But might be in that 10% of gamers who like this kind of game, who knows..
I think your assumption is flawed on many levels. I've read nothing about AoC losing anywhere near 85% to 90% of their player base at any time. I also would add that people I've talked to have enjoyed the game and their complaints have been varied but endgame is no longer boring from what I've been hearing. On that matter all games at endgame are boring but we trudge through.
I've just recently started playing and I will say after playing Warhammer and WoW this game is leaps ahead in terms of gameplay and quality of content. The quest dialogue is the best in the industry and the game itself is intriuging, drawing the player into the game. I would say give it a try, I just had my game corrupted and I'm willing to sit through another 3 hour dload to play, if that says anything.
For the record I was known for complaining about other games incessantly but this one my complaints are the combat is unforgiving and will result in many deaths at which you will say, "I only missed one button!!!"
I say "Yes..it is worth playing"......if box price is an issue..$20.00 is pretty cheap...and you can look at amazon for prices starting at around $7.00 for the basic box set. Sure...Funcom may prefer it's Suggested sales price but i'm sure the sub fees afterwards are more important....and there is a good chance you will re-sub...because no matter how many people left after it's initial buggy launch...it has greatly...greatly improved and IMO a joy to play. I never have any problem finding people to ask advice from or group with,,,and when solo ..I am always running across other players. Yes, I am out of Tortage(starter area)....and no I am not a "shill". Server mergers...sure...they had some..BFD...this occurs in many games. They all can't have a bajillion servers like some other game that begins with W....and ends with orldofwarcraft. So....?....are you having fun..well..you're not the only one and that's all that matters. There were just the right amount of quests in starter area and and later levels..not too overwhelming and always something to do outside of just exploration. I'll know if this holds up as I advance, I can't comment on endgame...I never like the end of any game/mmo..usually just start a new toon and dabble around with my max leveled toon whenever an mmo adds anything pertinent. Fortunately, AoC doesn't start at the "end" so enjoy the game.
