Crimecraft? Seriously?

TheAestheteTheAesthete Member Posts: 264

If you were writing a parody about computer games, and the only games you had ever heard of were "World of Warcraft" and "Grand Theft Auto," you might call your parody computer game "Crimecraft." Otherwise, no, please do not call your game "Crimecraft."

So the word "Craft" is never to be used in the title of any game ever again?

    ... or "World", "War", "of"?!

That's exactly right.  Blizzard has trademarked the word "Craft" and anyone attempting to use it in a title will be instantly imprisoned and tortured.  These guys don't play around.

Honestly, though, I think it sounds kind of lame.  Crimecraft just doesn't really roll off the tongue, plus it does sound like a cheesy knock off of Warcraft.  This doesn't reflect anything about the game itself, but it does sort of put me off a little.

Damn... there's goes my "Craft of Craftcraft" idea then. (MMO based on Origami, quilt making and basket weaving... it was going to be uber too... full loot!)

    Back to the drawingboard...

... hmmm... maybe "Hammer... Age of Decking" might work.

Yes, they potentially could have put more creative effort into the name.  People will eventually just get used to it, though.  The fact that I didn't make the connection between WoW's name and CC is probably because I am among the 10 or so MMO gamers that have not played WoW at some time.

I think a couple of you missed his point or blatantly tried not to see it. The op is merely trying to state a little more thought could be put into the name. Seriously ...crime ... craft. Or maybe its just me but it sounds lame.

Thank you. Exactly. I don't think the word "craft" has to be avoided from now on, for ever and ever. But "Crimecraft" sounds like they're either not trying, or they ARE trying, and what they're trying to do is make people think of WoW.

Please get a grip. You cannot judge a game from its name. You're laughable.

I think ultimately the name is fine and will simply be abbreviated into the lexicon such as WoW, L2, WAR, PotBS, etc.  CC is easy enough to say.

You know, it's funny, because everyone likes to try and compare mmo's now a days to WoW. What you are all failing to see, is that the title really is what the game is about. It's about commiting crime(robberies, heists, drug deals etc etc) as well as being able to craft more things within the game and have more control over those crafted items then most other mmo's to date. So I don't see the title as being that bad, considering the game is going to be what the title is. So in essence the title is doing what a title should, describing the game as best it can in but a few words.

Wtf, WoW Does not own the word *Craft*, In  CrimeCraft you can Craft item into weapons, Alot of games have the word Craft in it...

This guy is off he's head ?

I saw Crimecraft on a tenton hammer site, that was 1 week ago, ive visted the site registered read about it, looked at screen shots & it's through only reading your sh*t has it dawned on me it has craft in the tiltle so because of a game called world of warcraft ( which i use to play years ago ) your are saying that if any other game now has craft init it must be todo with Bizzard's WoW ?

I think World of Crimecraft would have been better :)

While the name does tend to invoke laughter, there was actually an explanation given as to how it came about.  Apparently, in the original language, it made more sense.  It's a game about crime and it has crafting.  It's just when the translation to Enlish was through, it came out Crime Craft, which IS pretty silly.

The game itself, though, could appeal to FPS fans, though I'm not sure what the RPG elements to it are all about.  Still, I'm keeping an eye on it and it's never bad to try and get in Closed Betas to try and help out development.  Especially games that get off the Fantasy bandwagon.

Why are people honestly trying to defend their use of the word craft?  (  "since when can't you use the word craft!!!!!!" )

It's very clear what they did...

The name is okay, you might be overreacting a bit. I myself didn't think of WoW right until you mentioned it. I don't see any problem with it.

  • hidden1hidden1 Member UncommonPosts: 1,244

Oddly enough it never crossed my mind... is the OP serious about this? or... is this a troll attempt on his part?

    /sigh

  • FaituFaitu Member Posts: 90

Well then, they should rename "World of Kung Fu" to something else, it is a clear copy of WoW's name.

    Right...

If they did trademark it then why isn;' Blizzard suing for the use of the word "craft" ? I mean surely  they could use the extra cash for the next-gen mmo right ?
