If the game is the same now, as it was at launch, then it must have been quite good and polished at launch because I just bought AoC a few days ago and am having no problems and a great time with it to be honest.

I never said it was the same, i just say it didnt improve much, but that maybe is a matter of opinion.

Really so the countless patches/hot fixes haven't done anything?  ookkkey 8-)

Resub 2 weeks ago, well in fact i bought the game back and so far having fun.   What i remember of the launch, especially the horrible performance are all gone.  There are still some bugs but it's day and night compared to what the game was at launch and now.

    15$ wasted.

This is what is happening to a lot of people and this is why Funcom hasn't given out free trials yet.

Same game. Less bugs. Move on.

If we ignore the fact that Age of Conan is just not a fun game for most people, the best reason for not to resubscribe is that that free trials and winback program is coming soon.

Why spend 15 bucks now when you could get it for free next week?

Also when the trials start there will be a bunch of other people playing so you don't need to solo that much.

i can give many reasons, actually i learned a lot of tricks from guys over here :
-because Funcom's CFO resigned and Head dev over this game's performance      o_O      0_o
    - because AoC used to have bugs while the company took forever to fix them and was deceptive
-because i dont play AoC, probably do to one of the myriad of reasons, are a lot of X AoC players.
-because WoW has more subs than AoC, So do 17 or so other MMOs, even free to play ones,
-because there is no free trial, If Funcom doesn't believe in their game, as stated,  why should you?
-because i got disconnected 5 months ago, what?
-because i got owned at PvP in AoC, while im used to own little kids in WeW. AoC's PvP is a pretty big joke.
-because i used to work for Funcom, screwd AoC at launch and got fired. Gaute Godager posts here?

    Here are some more.

    - because of poor class balance that has remained stable and unchanged since release aside from necros which was the only focus for 3 mos. Hurray for half the server, literaly, playing a ToS on the PvP servers.

    - because of a lame PvP, PvP system - 5 levels of blah, and penalties and silly stuff like guards all over.

    - because the hard cores, big guilds, leaders, PvP focused players,  etc for the most part left so is what remains really worth playing with?  Mostly, extreme casuals and cronic alt O' holics.

    - because of a lack of profit this game will probably slow down on content generation quickly

    - because this game still has a dire lack of content

    - because tradeskills are meh

    - because raiding is meh and generic

    - because there is only 1 group instance @ level cap worth doing, it is alright but why play 80 lvls to do 1 instance.

    - because global chat is usually sophmoric

    - because this game has no focus and doesn't do anything well aside from graphics

    - because it is unpopular to say I'm an AoC player in any other MMO community ;p

    - because Funcom rushed to do AoC's X pac before fixing the game

    - because I'm bored of this I will stop but could go on all day with these.

    all your complaints are meh

    sorry, cant be taken seriously

Unfortunatly, those are all major issues with this game, which are often ignored or hidden by the fans and they are the reasons why Age of Conan is not taken seriously.

Funcom has reviewed all of its assets relevant for
impairment testing. This process has led to
recognition of an impairment loss of around
3,1 MUSD for Age of Conan due to a decrease in
numbers of subscribers for the game. Funcom Q4 10 report.

because when you say for example that "raiding is meh" it doesnt mean anything

i can simply tel you that raiding in AoC is "not meh" and life goes on.

we can track bug numbers and content size but not the degree of mehiness of raids

To the op": Let me know how your resub goes, I am curious to hear your thoughts. I played through beta, launch, and several months onward. I left for my own reasons that have been covered in countless posts here. Given my past experience with MMOs that improved over time, I am open to hearing some of your feedback.

I played a HoX a lot. Level 80. It went from broken to balanced to broken again. Around the time that I quit, they had pretty much perfected them. I since read that they changed them again! But I admit I do not know the current state of the class, so I can't comment one way or another.

Happened to me also, resubbed and played it for a day and found out what a crap it still was. What a waste of money :/

I resubbed a while ago, and really enjoyed the game for about a week, then started to remember all of the things I hated about it. Cancelled and uninstalled at the end of the month. It just doesn't hold my interest well enough.

honestly if someone is interested in a a game they should subscribe to check it out. its hard to trust someone elses word when your gaming tastes might differ from theirs

    Howdy,

I originally bought the game on release after trying out the beta. My friend and I played the game at the same time, he was a Priest of Mitra and I was Herald of Xotli. I left the game for several reasons, the biggest being the imbalance of classes, call me a whiner, but when someone shows up with a ToS the same level as me and starts killing ten mobs their own level, when I was having trouble with two, that took the fun out of it for me. When they started to steal the mobs I needed to complete my quest and make rude comments about my loser class, that was the nail in the coffin, or so I thought.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed a bunch of people giving some great reviews about the game, stating that most of the bugs were gone and that the game was running alot smoother. I resubscribed, I mean with so many people stating it was a great game now, they had to be right, right? Well they were only half right.

I've found my return to Age of Conan to be less than amicable. I will say this, the game has improved leaps and bounds, just not enough for me to be able to really enjoy the game. In the last two weeks I've had an issue with bugs almost every other day. I mean serious bugs, like quests that can't be completed, lag in major cities, etc. I exceed the minimum requirements for the game, yet with everything turned absolutely down to zero, I still can't move through a city without enormous amounts of lag.

In the end I wouldn't have been so upset, if they had at least been honest about the requirements, but the fact that I can't participate in any raids or move through any cities, makes this less than enjoyable. If you have a top of the line computer you probably wont have any problems, I however had an average computer and suffered. However, even if I had no issues with lag or the mission bugs, I don't think I would stay. There's just too much repetition and it seems like  not a lot of thought was put into making the quests unique and different. At one point in thegame, regardless of your faction you will have to kill over 100 wolves spread out in spats of 10-20 over and over... I mean couldn't they have done something other than wolves? I spent two levels grinding off wolves, it was for me, the final straw. I'm not saying it's the nail in the coffin, but I can say I stopped playing, and I still have two weeks left on my monthly subscription.

The good points, nice friendly community, easy to find groups, and great graphics, even on low. Bad points for me (aside from the ones I mentioned)- it seems like the game isn't finished. I get the feeling that alot of the content they're putting in now, was supposed to be in the game at launch. I also feel that it's pretty lame to release an expansion when there are still so many issues in the game that need to be addressed. In the end it's probably Funcom's attempt to save the game, from what I understand subscriptions aren't very high.

Anyways, I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone. I wouldn't bad mouth it unless someone asked a question about it, as you have, but it's not good enough to recommend right now. It has a lot of potential, but then so does Hello Kitty Online, I don't plan on playing that game either.

If you're reading this, you probably need to get some sun.

True if you play mmos strictly for graphics which I would think most mmo players don't since I would have to say as a whole the mmo genre lags behind the rest of gaming in the graphics department.  Now as for op if you actually liked the play style and direction the game was going in then I doubt anyone can give you a reason to not re sub as that is obviously what they are working on fixing but there are certainly more "robust" gaming experiences out there.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Well, this is a pretty stupid question if you ask me. I can't tell you if you should resubscribe or not, none of these guys can. It's all just a matter of simple judgement of where the game is currently and the reasoning for leaving in the first place.
It's really as simple as this. If you left the game because you didn't like the game itself, or, as you say, got bored of it, I wouldn't suggest resubscribing. Generally speaking, it's still the same game. If the only reason you left was because of performance issues, lack of quality, or content, then by all means, now is a decent time to come back. Then again, I could give you this same answer for any MMO that had a crappy release (which, as of late, seems to be every MMO). Honestly? I suspect you will most likely get bored of it... if you didn't like the game before, not much is going to make you like it now. However, if the only reason you left was for technical issues, then you'll probably have a good time. Not much else to say on the issue.

That's what I' m talking about....anyone who continues to use the "crappy launch" excuse for everything ...will have plenty to say about every mmo that comes out. What will be considered a "crappy launch" is likely to be the norm for upcoming mmo's and not the exception. I think most mmo's , if not all, have been considered to have a bad launch at some point by it's  players. It's what the company does after the launch..leave it as is..or try to make improvements. Even well established and seemingly ironed out mmos still patch..correct...add content. It's neverending...Christ..even UO has updates and changes.

The issue is imo, that most people seem to expect too much...believe hype too easily....and hold any statement made by the developer...as carved in stone. Despite the many unexpected pitfalls inherent in software and game production...especially mmo's..who by their very nature are subject and meant to change...to accommodate one of a million factors. Not the least of which is constantly changing technology , fickle producers and a terribly diverse , demanding and equally fickle consumer. Sorry to say...the customer is not always right . Unfortunately, in this world of instant info and the fast food mentality, it's hard to convince people that, although you know what needs to be done, the task is not always easy or quick to accomplish. I do believe most companies do their best (or what they truly think is best) ...despite the outcome..

I think I found the best situation of someone going back to play..

I joined a new guild with one of my alts recently, and I was talking with the Guild Leader who left after launch due to the issues (like I did and so many others did...), anyways, he said he came back and has been pleased ever since.

I asked him how much he plays, and he said he has a lot of time...he is retired and 70 years old..

    WTF!!!

I was duly impressed. And when I found out the other members in the guild were between 40-60, I knew what kind of group was actually playing this game. Mature gamers who like a well laid out visceral game, with a good story and setting.

I am 46, and I can tell you, us old folk don't have much patience, so the game better rock.

AoC has been rocking for 4+ months for me, and I resubscribed for some more. I am done with the old MMO ways of WoW, EQ2, Elves and Dwarves. More realism and a more mature setting works best.

I say...spend your money and keep going man!

That's awesome....I'm in my early 40's and will probably be just like them when in my twilight years( not that far away). I can only hope. It's not surprising that they would like this game. It still amazes me that Robert Howard started the Conan( and other similiar) stories in the late 1920's ( and Tolkien with The Hobbit in early 30's) ..and that they still hold up after all this time. It proves that Howard did not just write "pulp" fiction...he wrote great literature that  will continue to endure. What is impressive is that  these older players have not gone into some form of technological torpor...and actually keep up with changing times. I wish i could get my mother to do that..lol.
