My Honest review of Darkfall.

The majority of the time I have spent in queue. Sometimes I return to my computer to find that it dropped me from the queue and I have to start all over again.  For the last three nights once I get into the game, ten minutes later I disconnect and must enter the queue again.  After this happens a few times I give up for the night. F-

Buying the game was the worst experience I’ve ever had.  They could have chosen many different options to limit sales and they choose the worst.  F-

Graphics are pretty good not on the same level as AOC but its good enough.  Some building structures and random visuals are very creative and impressive.  B

PVE is fun as hell, what a major change of pace from AOC and WOW that I’m used to.  I had more fun this morning killing 4 trolls then any WOW pve situation I was in over the last 4 years.  Each fight is a challenge and rather then slicing threw everything as if I was a god, I felt mortal and I enjoy this very much.  Mobs see you coming from far away so you have to use your head when approaching a mob area.  In WOW I would have just ran in collected 20 mobs and aoe’d them down (boring). B+

PVP- breath of fresh air compared to other imbalanced, gear driven mmos. Few large battles I was in were some of the best pvp I’ve ever seen and the most fun.  Losing all my gear didn’t phase me a bit and I rather enjoy the risk vs reward mentality that is always lurking.  Having never played a game before that has full loot, I have to say I’m hooked and might never go back to a “theme park” mmo again. B+

Player control and animation is very bad, maybe the worst I’ve ever played.  I hope they address this after the madness of the release settles down.  I really do think many people go back to WOW for this alone.  It feels clunky as hell, strafing slows down the character to much.  After a while I did get used to it and it didn’t bother me as much.  D+

I can go on and on, point by point but I won’t.  For the people who havnt bought the game I suggest waiting a few weeks then buying it, I do think it’s worth a try for any pvp mmo fan.  For any of you who are just sick and tired of WOW, this can be a great substitute in a few weeks but as of right now they are having a pretty bad launch.  I understand the challenge of a game release and it doesn’t bother me that much if there are issues.  A month after release is the real test and I’ll be here to see that.  I wont give an overall rating yet, but perhaps in a month I will.

I'd actually recommend to wait several months (maybe even six) before considering buying.  And yes, I have the game.

I think you should also add number and quality of  implemented features in comparison to  AV own list on their  website.

Also the only review ever to describe the process of buying the game. Only DF could be like this.

Stop copy/pasting this crap. Yeah, a lot of features are not implemented but game is really fun to play even without them. Leave this forums if you don't like game and go back to whatever shit you are playing.

This is not forumfall.  If you don't like his opinion then go back there or the forum you previously lurked.   Many ppl here will hold AV to the standard (feature list) that they themselves had set when their development began, and continually stated was complete and in game.

Why is it that no one can review an MMO without comparing it to WoW? Shouldnt new games be able to stand on their own and be innovative instead of trying to lure people away from an MMO that they already enjoy playing? If the first thing a developer says when making a game is "ok, heres why we will be better than WoW" then they should give up right there.

i agree with the above poster. i dont know what it is about people and using wow as a comparison. could someone explain the logic behind this to me? there has to be something.

    That one is easy.

Because just about everyone and their brother (including me) has played WoW at one point or another. Very few MMO players hasn't or don't know enough about it if you brought things about it up, even if they didn't play it. So it gives everyone a universal bookmark. If he had said "The PvE was much different than Horizons", most people would have went "Huh???" So everyone generally uses WoW.

If I say "Hey, lets go get some pizza." You'll think a triangular slice of thin crust with cheese and whatever. Not a square Sicilian thickly breaded slice with little sauce. Few eat that kind of pizza, but most everyone can relate to the triangle.

But to be fair, he also did mention AoC as a comparison.

Hmm. I guess I'm just old then. I hardly ever have WoW in mind when looking to compare a new game to something I found...fun? I'm more prone to compare a new game to Ultima Online, Asheron's Call or Pre-NGE SWG. And I would have gotten the Horizons remark you made, lol. And I like the square pizza more than the thin one.

Guess I get to be in the few! *goes off to find an oatmeal pecan cookie as opposed to the chocolate chip one that most everyone else would choose*

"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."

Good point.  Also add to the fact Blizzard has been developing games for 20 years and is a multi billion dollar corporation.  Aventurine is an unknown independant self publishing their first title.  To expect the same polish is ridiculous in my opinion.

I have heard of the queue problem, but honestly I have not experienced one yet.  That may be due to playing nights PST, but I'm just saying queues do not affect the entire game population.

You know, this is really irrelevant to whether or not a game is actually any good, or in fact, actually fun.
