Was there WoW beta access to stress testers over a limited a mount of time? Lets say a few days? Is this a rumor or true?

Yes they had a Stress test, the servers were seperate from the limited closed beta server. The stress test lasted about 2 weeks. The top players of each class on each server were given a closed beta account.
Its said that there will be an open beta before the retail launch of WoW. But that hasn't been confirmed as far as I know. So you may still have a chance to try it before you have to dish out the cashola for it.

I believe that this is the last official phase for closed beta, so hopefully Open will be starting soon, within the next month I pray!
Would be a nice treat if the GameStop release date was correct for Nov. 17th I believe. I also read on another post on the WoW main forums where someone stated that they worked for GameStop and that it has been stated by Blizzard to GameStop that they would indeed be shipping the game on the 15th. I would link to that post, but it was a few days ago when I read it, and we all know how fast the pages fill up over there 
So, hopefully that guy was right and wasn't making it up!

As far as I understand Blizz is hopeing to have a 30 day open beta before they announce the game Gold and ship. The projected date as I have understood it, based on blizz responce on their own forums, though they have not specificaly mentioned a date is, the game WILL be shipped this year, as chistmas is comming and sure to be a huge buying time for the game, I am sure it will be released before christmas, now assuming there is a 1 month open beta, they would want to launch the game on dec 20th or earlier.
Based on this info, I would think the open beta will start in Oct. I am going to hazard a guess at the 10th or 15th. so that they will have at least 10-15 days after the beta to do final game fixes, or alterations. They will need a few days for productiona nd shipping to stores, and the game will go live after about 3-5 days on the shelf (as with most MMO's)
My time line predictions is: Open beta oct 10-15 till Nov 10-15. Nov 30 for final game fixes and alterations server upgrades and testing. Dec 1 annouce the game Gold, Dec 5th begin shipping, Dec 10th close the closed beta, Dec 15th release game to public, Dec 20 game goes live.
Just before the x-mas break when all the good girls and boys have all the time in the world to play the game and give the servers a huge stress test for two weeks before they all go back to school in Jan, when after a bout a week or two Blizz will do a patch to fix any bugs that may have been caused by the server loads from the holiday breaks.

Just a few things to consider:
There's no reason why they would stop open beta, then wait a couple of weeks to release the game. It's a huge waste of time. More than likely, Blizzard, will ship the GM the 1st or 2nd week of Open Beta - just like every other MMORPG has done before them. Also, it takes more than 5 days to manufacture any quantity of retial boxes - so we are probably looking at 2-3 weeks there. Maybe less, but not *that* much less. Once the GM shows up at the production facilities, they have around a week or so turn-around before the boxes ship back to Irvine. From there, they ship to the retail and online stores - not to the customer directly. So there's a lot of shipping time to account for.
Also, keep in mind that it is ESSENTIAL that they ship the game before say, the end of the 1st week in December. They will be counting on the holliday sales to help boost their profits - some people do their shopping early, and won't return to the malls that close to the 25th. Furthermore, Blizzard will need to go through the usual sell-out period that games have on release - an earlier release allows them to re-stock the shelves a couple of times before Christmas. If they are sold out when Mommy and Daddy go shopping, little Jimmy can't play WoW until after the 1st of the year.
I have my money on Open Beta in the 3rd week in October, GM goes off to Asia for mass production around the 1st week in November, Open Beta ends around the 3rd week in November, followed by a release closer to December 1st.
If they release as late as Dec 20th, they DESERVE to have their collective asses handed to them by SoE.

They probably have the boxes made, just a matter of filling them up and producing the CD's. They will most likly have a patch within the first few days of the game going live (as most MMO's do) hence the bug fixes. I see the game going live dec 20th latest. on the shelves by the 10th or earler. The open beta shoudl be any time. The closed betas usualy run seperate from opens as was the case for CoH so people didn;t have to re-make their toon for the open.
Open ended about 2 weeks before the game shipped.
