when is this server actually coming?

  • Kungaloosh1Kungaloosh1 Member Posts: 260

I voted 51/50 because it would be the most inventive to date.

Progression server has already been tested and failed. I don't think they have the means to time lock expansions, and the normal scenario would be a sham as it was on combine.

I think SOE if they want those old players back then they should find out why they cancelled in the first place for one or put out some server ideas to these people to see what may bring them back don't you?

No, because the reason for you to cancel will be based of the reason everyone else will cancel. There will be no new player base to the classic server other then the player base the game had in the begginning. Yeah a few will new people will come but most of the MMORPG'ers of today want a EASY mmo and Classic Server with Hell Levels and Corpse hunting will be turned off. And after us the old eq players are done with the nostalgia of the Classic Server SoE would have lost money on the project. Because they would have to higher a whole new team to do the server. So no its not a odd logic. The odd logic is people wanting a Evovling world to turn back un-evovled. Its a mmo it changes and a Classic Server will be a stagnant Server and have a player base the size of Al'Kabor.

51/50 is what they should do on every server now.

Many of the current PC live servers have a population the size of the "stagnate" Mac server. There is no evidence for the information you have posted above. Actually to the contrary, DAOC released a "classic" version of their server with popular success. It can be argued whether EQ evolved or devolved. I personally feel it went in the wrong direction and got watered down, not better. It is all a matter of opinion.

Actually many past hits from the past are released in the single game market and do great .. that is why they rerelease them. Sometimes they will update the graphics but sometimes they will not. It has been a successful venture so far. In my opinion what made EQ a hit is what it was in the past .. the only reason the game still is played now is because of the success of the past. In my opinion the game is a horrible now. The game mechanics have become watered down. The graphics are different throughout the entire game. The lore was butchered to the point of sillyness. The classes are watered down. The levels 1 - 65 are pretty much a joke, most of the game is soloed except for the very end now with mercanaries (which also trivalized an entire class the cleric).

I hardly think that is the peak of what made this game the great game it was in the past. If it released in the shape it is in now, I feel it would have flopped. Also not to mention Sony is the only subscription based game now that sells virtual items for real life cash. The only thing this game has going for it today is it's well known name.

I completely disagree with this statement.  Have a 51/50 server, but not all servers.  Me and a group (6 others) of friends came back to EQ for about 3 months in the fall and we had more fun with the 1-60 old world content then anything from Luclin and beyond.  The fun is in the journey, not the end.

I don't care if they want to do it or not, SOE should have still put a classic server as a voteable option just to see the demand.

the DAOC Classic server has all expansions - except Trials of Atlantis

DAOC Origins - which was to have no expansions, was recently announced to be canceled due to lack of interest

I have read that server was put on hold because of the focus on Warhammer.

I should not have said canceled but there are no current plans for it either

When we looked into doing Origins we gathered player feedback about the idea and I was told that it wasn't overwhelmingly something the players supported or seemed to want.

Nobody wants to see DAoC abandoned less than I do but right now we need to be rather careful and smart with our resources and make sure we do the right thing.

If either current or former DAoC players want Origins, I'd love to see a real groundswell of demand to back that up.

51/50 is what they should do on every server now.

I'd be open to reinstalling EQ and trying it out again with a 51/50 server. The last time I logged into the game was when I downloaded the free trial and started running through the world with an old toon that was in her 40's. It was utterly desolate, with every zone that I ran through totally empty. At least a 51/50 ruleset would start returning people at a level closer to the rest of the playerbase.

The rest of the rulesets? Meh. But the 51/50 sounds interesting.

Why are they putting this poll in log in only?

They could bring so many people back to the game with putting it on eqplayers for everyone to vote on.

A progression server without a 6 month timelock is BS tbh.

And all the options will carry station cash anyhow?

No, not the EQ ressurection I was faintly hoping for.

Thanks for the reference. Even though DAOC did provide their players with a server without the expansion they did not enjoy. I think that was very honorable of Mythic to do and makes me consider choosing to play their games in the future. This is what EQ players are asking for a server without the expansions that changed the game drastically starting with Luclin and beyond.

Sony is to interested in adding virtual items for real life cash to their sub based game to listen to past players' desires for this type of server. Also I find it silly that big companies that produce MMOs can't think logically enough to realize that there will not be a big outcry from current subscribed players for these classic type servers. Why would the current players want a classic server? They are subscribed now and apparently like the direction of the game. The people they should ask are the players that are not subscribed any longer. Why not send out emails and ask why people quit in the past? Find out what the people want that are not playing now, wouldn't that make more sense?

Thats utter BS, you think because Mythic thought about making a server that they are honorable? You think that SoE didn't think the option through and think of a classic server? The dang petition with thousands of signs are there. SoE wants to make money and when they see it profitable to make a classic server they will. Its about dollars and cents.

You want a Classic Server get a mac, get EQ mac edition and play PoP and back. Its not full Classic but they dont update it and have left it alone for quite sometime.

If you are going to argue my post please read it first. I was speaking of a server that exist right now.

My bad i was combining what you said and what someone else said about what was going to happen. But still to honor them for the server they did and it obviously dwindled down only shows that the plan for a classic server isnt a good one.
