Crazy week, 2 soldiers and a cop killed in Northern Ireland, 16(?) killed in Germany and 11 killed in Alabama.
All with guns, now the police in Germany have inspected the shooters PC and it has "violent video games" on it.
According to www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29630925/ the shooter played Counter-strike as well as poker.

I'm no psychologist, but in my view if someone is deranged enough it doesn't matter what they do be it flower arranging or knitting they will likely follow the same actions regardless.

The gun debate is a losing battle.
You can't outlaw guns, because slack jawed yokels need to blow away furry animals for fun.
And you can't give everybody guns, or more crap like this will happen.
Science flies people to the moon. Religion flies people into buildings.
Not like they can do anything about it. Just like the many other killers that just trained their aim and firing at shooting galleries, backyard and hunting. This is nothing but some nice article time to make some $$$. It's all in the mind with these people. You can't even shoot yourself in Counter-Strike. I do have to admit, I'm very sad for that Police Officer that lost his wife and daughter. When I herd of that it just felt so much like a Max Payne incident. I'll keep that man in my prayers.

I cannot wait for someone in a postion of authority to realize the fundamental flaw with blaming video games in cases like this. For it to hold any water at all, it requires that the player be unable to distinguish between reality and virtual reality to the point that they commit actions thinking they were still playing the game. Otherwise, as much of an influence one may consider it to have, the person commiting the crime is still fully responsible for all choices made. If on the other hand, you choose to make an argument based on the first scenario, there is a definitive term for an inability to distinguish reality, its called schizophrenia.
So, either games have no more legal affect on actions than for instance a drug, or the person who commited the crime was technically insane to begin with.

I blame the availability of guns to the public, there is no need for them being around.
Only few people living in secluted places should be granted a licence and the screening should be very strict as well.

Not to mention a nice story called Farenheit 451 and the movie Equilibrium. Eliminate the ability for citizens to defend themselves, then to educate themselves because defensless, STUPID people who aren't allowed to think for themselves are easy to control.
You seem to forget all of the civilians that were rounded up in the Gulags, many if not most were not a part of the military. I don't really get where you are going with the Red Army commentary, yeah a lot of them were killed, but they weren't disarmed. That is the point that was being made. Nice copy/paste though.
As for Germany, because they were Jewish it didn't matter that they were the ones disarmed? I guess because it was a select group, that made it different somehow? The same principle applies in my opinion. Disarm is the first step, how is that not obvious from what happened?
Not sure how a fight for supremacy, against communism and the Japanese as you put it, relates to disarming a populace as it does in the Germany comment above.

parents always say that what you play in games is going to effect you. to me not really cause i play more sports games, and to others its the same. But its people like this that do stupid things like shoot people, and their history of playing games like counter strike that make people look down at people who are gamers

Yes it is true that clubs, stones, knives or just fists could often be used in criminal acts even if no firearm were available. Considering this, we see that without hands none of these items could be used in crime. Therefore, I propose that all hands be removed for the public's own safety.
