Because no one gives a crap about console kids? Consoles are to video gaming what MTV is to music.
lol dont make me laugh consoles are x20 times more played then mmorpgs
That's why they are called "the ignorant masses." Masses, there are a lot of them. They out-number the non idiots.
I love the X360, so I'm an idiot no exceptions? I love your logic. No matter what forum I visit it's like everyone one of them attracts a bunch of idiots.
" next gen "always make me smile.. considering that both ps3 and xbox360 were released what.. 2-3 years ago now..
that none of them have more power than mediacore pc.. that most console/pc games, turns out that console games lags and runs on constant 20 fps.. ( i ques when tv runs only at silly 25-30 fps its not that bad lmao )
you can stick your next gen where sun doesnt shine
consoles are supposedly more popular than pc gaming.. due the fact that parents buy them for their kids.. cuz there is nothing to know about it.. just whack it.. and play.. no upgrading
cuz kids doesnt pay for games.. and every adult who have console. have pc too and go read interviews.. why mmogrps are pain in the ass on consoles.. there will be few.. both of them.. wait.. wait.. 3 2 1.. DC SUPER HERO COMICS GAMES.. no if thats not pointed towards kids then i DONT KNOW
oh yea and conan too soon.. but if you think all those mature things arent adversiting for kids.. cuz every adult seems them.. as "bleh " then you clearly just a kid still
You do know that DC Comics published "the Watchmen" right?
Not all comics are targeted at kids.
I think consoles need to rev up about one more gen before really viable mmo's will appear. Current hardware just doesn't quite cut it.
In fact, all the next gen needs to be a decently powered, very standardized PC and they'll have reached the right point.

the future of mmos will undoubtedly include consoles . maybe not the current batch but the next generation is where the next warcraft will come from . a new game has to essentially be a bit retro to be successful given it has to run on older systems . consoles offer a true mass market that will offer decent performance for all players . its not a massive leap now to attach a keyboard and a mouse to console . you can envisage the playstation 4 and the follow up to the xbox 360 being a lot more like a personal computer with a standardised system . its stupid to say mmos should only be a on a pc . its a little like arguing the vitrues of betamax over vhs in the 80s . it ll be a redundant arguement in a few years to come . i dont think todays consoles would handle mmos that well but you can bet the people at sony , mircosoft and nitendo have them in thier sites for tomorrows . they are buisness men they can see where the markets going . single player games pale to some degree compared to multiplayer .
I believe Champions Online will be on the console but the release date is being delayed. In all honesty though, if I could play my favorite mmos on a console I wouldn't have much use for my pc other than my work. Consoles are cheaper than pcs, gamers wouldn't have to worry about constantly upgrading to keep up with system requirements and they'll save money in the long run.
In August 2007 NCSOFT (Guild wars, Lineage, Aion, Tabula Rasa, etc...) have announced an exclusivity agreement with Sony to bring 4 mmos to the PS3. We haven't heard anything new on this for almost 2 years now.

There are just as many kids on PC as there are on consoles, load up Counter Strike or World of Warcraft and you'll see for yourself.

Actually most of them run at 30 fps or 60 fps. If consoles are comparable to "mediocre PC's" then how come their graphics can easily compete with most PC games?
I think a big issue is control. 1. On a console MS/Sony is going to have a LOT of say of what is going on in your game. 2. Monthly fees. Of course it can be done on a console, but from a publisher's point of view they know on a console MS or Sony is going to grab a hunk of that fee for themselves. Face it, from a dev's point of view going with a console means having to get into bed with MS or Sony and that may not be desirable either creatively or financially. Also I think MMO's traditionally are seen as unchartered frontiers of gaming. Once you bring it to a console the limits on whats possible or even allowed clamp down quick. Also look at it from a console's perspecitve: Do they want to be hosting the kind of game that if successfull takes up all the player's time? The console market makes a lot of money from the sale of games, not consoles. The last thing they want is players who basically play one game to the exclusion of others. I know this is a minor point as it may not apply to a lot of people but nontheless it must be considered.
You are wrong on so many points.
1. SQEX doesn't have get approval from Microsoft or Sony on what content is added to FFXI nor do they have any say whatsoever on what goes on in any development or any other matter related to FFXI.
2. Microsoft nor Sony get any cut of the FFXI subscription fees, so you're wrong again on that point.
Creating a console MMO doesn't require having to 'get into bed' with Microsoft or Sony, either creatively or financially. The only real prohibiting factor is cost. When developing a cross platform game (whether it be single player or multiplayer/MMO) you are going to need seperate development teams to work on the core product. Sure, they can share certain resources but the costs of running three seperate developement teams is rather expensive, coupled with the fact that it costs more $$$ and resources to develop games on the PS3.
MMO's haven't been the 'uncharted frontiers' of gaming since WoW hit the 1 million subscriber mark. Bringing MMOs to consoles doesn't limit what can or cannot be done, especially with the Next Gen consoles. It might have been true with early consoles like the PS/PS2 and Xbox but it's no longer the case with the PS3 or Xbox 360.
Your last point is just way to silly to even comment on.
Somebody going to do it.Their is too much money sitting out their waiting to be taken name one console mmorpg not name Phantasy Star or Final Fantasy. There is market of players willing to play console mmo.We know what the probelms for console mmo are
1.How do handle putting all those buttons on a controller
2.How do handle patching and the new content that every mmo has to add because no mmorpg is a finished product
How hard is to make one action based mmo that takes it self seriously as a rpg (that does not hid behind it is action based controls or pvp) with good mic support.
you know I thought that Oblivion on PS3 played great and see no reason why that game couldnt be an mmo
that probably was more instanced that age of conan.. and ye aoc will be on xbox.. and not everyone likes instances cenarios.. and we will be able to compare just how much graphics differ..
Actually most of them run at 30 fps or 60 fps. If consoles are comparable to "mediocre PC's" then how come their graphics can easily compete with most PC games?
Optimization. An easy analogy is a car. If you know every single component, every limit, every threshold, and have the tools to work within those thresholds, making a new part that enhances and takes advantage of the standardization is easy. That's a console. Standard, factory-built model with all the same specs. Engines can be very heavily modified for optimization.
PCs are sort of the opposite. There's not a single model, there are hundreds of models, if not thousands. Each car has been tweaked by the owner, and when you make something for it, you play the "exclusion" game. Who are you excluding by optimizing the engine for nVidia cards? ATI cards? Intel processors? AMD? DX10? DX9? 2GB RAM? 1 GB RAM? So, wanting to include as many people as possible, there's more blanket optimization and less specific optimization. It results in a lot more power needed to get equivalent looks, but it also means that the engine can have options (like "Low" and "Ultra" modes of visuals).
Fuhyo
Your only argument that the prohibiting factor is cost doesn't make sense if you reason that development across 2 platforms (PS/Xbox) would probably be more cost effective than development for the PC environment as the systems would be static well defined variables. Yes the cost is prohibitive, but less than it would be for a PC and plenty of MMO's for PC's
consoles have no future so why would a developer spend millions of dollars on a dead genre ?
XBOX Euro president stated in an interview a while back that consoles will die soon. The future isnt a piece of hardware in your home. It will be a wireless network of movies, games, phone, etc all easily accessible in every home. Its silly to limit content to a home simply because a box isnt there.
the future doesnt include an xbox 720 or a PS4 with limiting licenses restricting games to only that box. The profit has never been in the hardware. Its too expensive to create and restricts game sales. In a world without hardware that restriction is eliminated

At that point haven't you just made a PC with a game controller, minus the ability to upgrade or change the hardware? Basically it would be the same as saying there will only be one PC for the next two years, and here are its specs.

Consoles have no future? Not really.
Console sales have been growing significantly the last 20 years. Playstation 2 is still selling to this day, Nearly 8 years after it's release and 140 million units sold. The Xbox360 has already surpassed the lifetime sales of the original xbox, and the Wii is currently breaking records.
What you're talking about is the Euro Ex - gaming division president, which is no surprise as most of his experience comes with the original xbox in Europe, which only sold around 6 million units in Europe at the time, which is no surprise.
I think consoles need to rev up about one more gen before really viable mmo's will appear. Current hardware just doesn't quite cut it. In fact, all the next gen needs to be a decently powered, very standardized PC and they'll have reached the right point.

And what do you think current-gen consoles are now?
The Xbox360 is very much a PC. I has a hard drive, RAM, a video card, processor, PSU, motherboard... Same for the PS3 and the Wii.
Well mmorpg for consoles must be dumbed down and then i dont think it would be a majour hit maybe in the USA but dont think in Asia or Europe there computer gaming is still high. And i dont think that the console players are fans of mmorpgs. I thik most of the console gamers prefer shooters and action adventure gmaes.
A lot of you are way off the mark here with consoles vs. pc's. I have an play both; but I have been playing mmo's since Shadowbane and mostly play the PC.
You cannot compare the hardware on the 360 for example with a pc directly due to the way the games are coded. Games for the pc have to be developed for many diffirent set ups, cards, processors, single core, multi-core, etc. This is the reason for a lot of poor performance in pc games. The scalibilty mixed with constantly updated drivers leads to some real shitty situations for a lot of PC gamers. Trust me, I'm on the tech forums for these MMO's all the time and have seen it first hand.
With the 360 in contrast, the developers can make a game suited for one specific set of hardware. They know what they're working with, the capabilities and constraints and can tailor the game to the machine. This is the reason why 360 could run a game like Gears 2 for example, while pc's with better hardware struggled to get 25 fps. Same with Assassin's Creed. I read post with people bitching in forums that their computer... which was 3-5 times stronger that the 360 were getting shitty frame rates. This is due to the issue listed above and making the game work for infinite configurations.
There WILL BE more MMO's for consoles... both companies have expressed interest and now it's just a matter of making it work.
