This is the total failure of Darkfall. Is the game actually released? Their website doesn't suggest so, but yet news releases on gaming sites seem to suggest that it is. What is the truth? What are the features of this game? Is there an empirical list of features that someone can display that details the actual features of the game today? Or is there a list of "in development" features with a schedule attached? Does the company intend to support the playerbase the would like to play? If so, when will they allow people to play on demand? Do they have a schedule for expanding or contracting their exposure to the market to meet the demand, or lack of demand? ... Where is the transparency? Where is the full faith and trust in the consumer? This is what has doomed this game to third-world status. Its failure is not due to a presence of bugs...every release has bugs...WOW and LoTRO had their fair share and they were both highly polished releases. Its failure is not due to a lack of robustness and polish...there are plenty of games that can survive a pitiful start and achieve a solid and successful base. Anarchy Online and EVE Online were both horridly released games that went on to great things. Its failure is not due to it being a small independent company with limited resources. CCP, Turbine, Mythic...all small shops with a will to accomplish. It can be done, and will be done again in the future. No. It is a total lack of willingness to be open and share the trials and tribulations of this journey. There is little harm that can come from being forthright about the hardships on this journey, after all most people are well aware that this is not a game funded by the deep pockets of corporate interests. So why the silence? Why the shrouded mystique? What purpose can it serve to continue a veil of secrecy? It disempowers the partisan champion and only emboldens the cynics. Truth is the most potent antibody to the disease of misinformation. Being a small company is no excuse for this. It takes very little to communicate with the public...little more than a small amount of thoughtfulness and a small dose of faith in the community you wish to nurture. The smaller the operation the more important it is to maintain a very strong bond with the community you are hoping to foster. Instead, Aventurine offers a total disregard and mistrust for the consumer. Any self-resepecting adult with any reasonable experience in this world should know better than to allow themselves to be abused in such a manner. .... Demand information. Demand integrity. Demand equity in words and actions. Demand respect. And above all demand transparency. It is very easy to provide and the height of spiteful arrogance to deny.
Well maybe since they're a small company, their working on this game 24/7. They don't have time to waste a day on you arrogant people who want your games and you want them NOW! If you want a good game, your gonna have to wait. If you wanna be a crack head and waste their time so it comes out a month later, be my and other people's guest. Go play an f2p mmo if your so uptight about not having anything to do. It doesn't matter how it's released, if IGN rates it high, people will buy. It's just one of those things that you will have to understand, that IGN rules the world (of warcraft).
Most stupid, ignorant excuse ever. Did you even read the OP's post? Reading comprehension, where are you!?
Look, it wouldn't take much to have one or two people dedicated to spreading information around. "Oh but they're a small company wah!" GET SOME VOLUNTEERS! There's plenty of them! The simple fact is Aventurine doesn't want to have easily available, accurate and helpful updates. Because they're arrogant and think the game is perfect. Or some other convoluted reason that I don't know.
"If you want a good game, your gonna have to wait." What the fuck does that have to do with the OP's post? The game is released already, we've already waited. And what does IGN have to do with anything?
I think this guy meant to post in another thread but got confused. Too many links, ahhhhh!

So, this is just another thread for trolls and haters to pat each other on the back about how much darkfall apparantly "sucks". Then reply with any rebutal to this claim by simply saying "GTFO fanbot you aren't welcome on this Darkfall forum!"
All you trolls have a nice time on here, I'll be playing Darkfall.
This post took 30 seconds to type so any reply with "Why aren't you playing Darkfall now then!?" will simply be laughed at, good day.

I cant stand it when people say they cant waste 1 day of their time out of the 24/7 work to improve the game.Who are we kidding?Do you guys really believe that Tasos cant spend 20 minutes to write a post at their forum or in MMORPG.com of the state of the game. What is happening or what is going to happen? Its not that they dont have time to do it but they dont want to do it.
People say now that it doesnt matter since the server is full etc.But in the long run this will be a huge wall to jump over in 2-3 months, when everyone will be here saying how much the game has improved and making fake posts about the population going up and having huge PvP fights, like posters from other games seem to do the last year.
Bottom line AV is spitting on the same customers that will beg for to play their game in 2-3 months.

This translates for dont buy this game now, wait and see how all this develops and ends. If they are "cool" and they know what they are doing, if the manage to maintaing the game working.
Launch day is one of the most important days of any new MMORPG to hit the buyers. If any company fails on this day, it will not be forgotten, but maybe AV is just going after a niche crowd, which I find this hard to believe. The more players you get, the more money into your pockets for retirement (which is usually a devs goal).
Anyways, not everyone that buys a game on day one is going to stay in the game (we all know that). The average mmo player probably puts in about 3 to 7 days into there new mmo to see if they will be staying. Then you as a developer thrive on continue subscriptions not intial box or digital sales to get you rich. (your game cant grow fast enough without new players entering your game).
Apparently AV must have a nice capital, not to worry about new players that want their product (and this is not sarcasm).
Though I hear my guildmates enjoying DF, I will wait a couple of months to see if the game has -- staying power --. I understand the honeymoon effect on all mmorpg's that are released, this one will be no different than the rest.
I must admit, I have been wondering the same things too.
It's really the little things that make you think. For example: After the game finally released in Europe to those with pre-orders, for a few days there was still a big link on the DFO homepage for "Beta Signup". It's like, WTF, the game's not in beta anymore its been released.
Now, if you go on the official darkfall homepage: http://www.darkfallonline.com/, on the top right in that same spot, where the beta link previously was, the link is now "News: Beta First impressions".
Once again, I say, WTF! The top news link should be "Europe release first impressions". :-| The game had been in beta forever and has been released! (or is that what you want us to think??) Sheesh.
Its the little things that often make a big difference, and these things AV has overlooked.
Darkfall Online is a nitch game, Darkfall Online is not for you!
That is all I hear the fanbots saying
The only thing nitch about Darkfall is a small number of people giving their cash to the bullshit artist Tasos so they can play his pile of crap game. If you have no bizzalaz and like to give your cash to a man who walks all over you, Darkfall Online is for you.
Darkfall Online is not a true sandbox mmo!
Darkfall Online is less than what most free to play item mall mmo's are!

AV is destroying this game faster than SOE or Funcom ever could (btw if you are still defending AV....get rid of the "I Hate SOE" sigs, cause its just comical watching you defending a company more incompetant than SOE)
AV should sell the game to SOE : DFO + SOE + RMT : the top of the top ^^.
I'm sorry for fans but i really see no differences between a DnL, a RV, a VG, they're all unplayable for many reasons. And i agree with the OP for the total lack of transparency, DFO's launch seems to be another DnL/AOC launch.
You can't play with a concept.
Never saw people paying for queuing before, never. (we told you so ^^)
For those of you who wonder...this thread isn't about the game at all, it's about the company that runs it.
Mind you, by the time you read this message you either already understand it or aren't willing to attempt to understand that. But I thought it was worth a try to point it out.

That might be one of the worst ideas I have ever heard. Who would GIVE their game to SOE? Sony's refurbishment of appropriated property is more commonly known as 'THE KISS OF DEATH'. Everything they touch turns to a steaming pile of crap (eventually).
I don't think DF would sell it's soul for decent account management, decent server maintenance, and a more qualified staff.
I don't think Adventurine is willing to murder Darkfall like that.
The ultimate solution to every problem: more space marines.
