Wannabe noob's few questions...

triprunnertriprunner Member Posts: 169

I'm thinking about trying EQ2 as i just upgraded my PC so it can handle great graphics.

Are US servers more populated than european? I live in Europe but i'll go where people are as i'm a grouping fan. I know there are PvP servers for EQ2, is it FFA or duel/PvP lake kinda ruleset?

Thanks for the answers.

I can't answer your question in regards to NA vs. EU server population, but I can answer your question regarding the game's ruleset.

If you are a huge PvP fan then EQ2 is not going to appeal to you.  EQ2 is predominantly PvE.  Yes, there is a dueling option and there is EQ2's version of "arena" PvP, but it is nothing, and I repeat...nothing...like any sort of PvP from other games.

EQ2 has quite wonderful PvE.  It's not "easy mode," and a lot of it requires a small group, a good portion requires a full group.  Can you solo?  Yes, but you're not going to be able to solo to max level unless you do a serious amount of grinding mobs, which is so boring, I have no clue why anyone would even attempt to do that in a game.

EQ2 has a more mature community, that is overall very helpful (although I think LotRO's community is better by a bit).

You should know that the vast majority of people that play EQ2 are already guilded and most of them are raiders.  Starting EQ2 this late in the game's life will be a bit challenging, I'm sure.  But that being said...the lower level areas are not abandoned, and higher level characters can mentor you and group with you to help you, which benefits them AND you by adding to their AAs.

I haven't played in quite a while now, so if anything I have said is at all misleading, I'm sure someone will come along to correct me. :)  But EQ2 is a fine game.  The player housing is really wonderful, in my opinion, and allows you vast decorating freedom, a place from which to sell your crafted goods, keep your game trophies and rewards, and yeah....I really like EQ2.  Actually...talking about it makes me miss it again. :)

The crafting, by the way, is probably the best in any game on the market today.  I probably liked it more before they took away the possibility of you losing your rares you were using if you "messed up," but it's still ages beyond crafting in MOST games.  LotRO is probably the next best "crafting-wise."

Thanks for the answers. LOTRO is great, played it for a while, but it so slow paced... I dunno, i might try it again with the DX10 implemented.

EQ2 appeals to me with unknown lore (to me at least), huge areas, details, and resemblance to Vanguard. I really liked VG but it was impossible for me to play on a US server (PvP) because of the time difference between EU and US.

One last question: what is AA?

    There are PvP servers.

If you choose to go pvp you will need to know that there are 3 factions: Good, Evil, and Exile. The last puts you in a kind af FFA mode, but comes at a price. You don't have shared bank slots on Exiled characters.

AA = Achievement points. You acquire they by completing quests, exploring new areas, and killing named. They can make your character considerably stronger.

As a big hint, on pvp servers you want to disable xp and get as many AA as possible at low level or you are going to be eaten alive. You also want to have a full set of T2 mastercrafted available before you advance past level 9, then burn from 9 to 12 as fast as you can so you can equip it. There are people who level lock at 14 with godlike gear waiting for new people to ding 10, which is when you become eligable for pvp.

There is a couple of old answers in this thread.

    1) There is acutal possible to solo to 80 now. It's kinda the most effective way too, since if you group from start to 80, you will find you a bit lacking in the achievement xp. From level 70 to 80, there is probably only way to solo or duo yourself up. Dungeon running is mostly in groups. So, good dropped gear and pure xp dungeon runs is still most effective in groups.

    2) There is no european PVP servers. The was a couple once before, but they died out due to population and got merged into one the US PVP server.

I played on the US server for 1.5 years or so, but started on the Splitpaw server instead. There is still active enough in the peak times, and I can actual sleep well in the nights now :)

Wow!  I just wanted to thank the people that added updated information!  Actually....those are some things that I am glad to know. :)

I had a really great time when I was an active EQ2 subscriber, and your answers intrigue me!   Sounds like things may just keep getting better over there!
