I gave this game another chance and i really cant get into it.
- rangers with op tracking and gank squads
- the combo system. combo finisher forces you to stand still while target jumps or runs around like an idiot. You missed and spend a few secs hitting air while he beats your ass up. maybe i simply suck at it.
- pvp combat is very unforgiving and fast pace. cant afford to make any mistakes not even one or you die.
Because of the insane rampant ganking in AoC, this game is really for the hardcore of hardcore. My salute to all players who have been playing on pvp servers for a long time.
Nothing has really changed, its still the same old Age of Conan gameplay minus the bugs. If bugs and lack of leveling contents are the main reasons you left, you might want to try again.
i'm out.

My friend returned a few months ago as well, and brought me along ( new player). He had a max level character from this summer.. and mostly what he said was that there wasn't anything to do at 80. The pvp was just random circle-jerks with no meaning. It took me 3 weeks to get to 80, but the game was basically boring from 25-80, so I trusted him that the game sucked at 80 as well, even though I only spent a few days there.
We went on to darkfall, which was insanely terrible and lasted a few weeks there. We are now playing EVE which is pretty awesome.
Due to the very nature of the game, classes, combat, etc, AoC will not appeal to everyone.
I wish you good luck in your new game.
aye AOC is pretty much dead.
Unbelievable how they still havent figured that the stone age combo system is a major ingredient in the bag of the stuff that makes the game so awful.
rofl dead for you, alive and kicking for me and 1000s of others and getting better, both content and population wise. Can't wait for the expansion!
The combo system is for me extermely good and i am happy that it is there. Would not want to see auto attack here.
But as i said in my previous post, if it is not for you then it is not for you, sorry and bye bye.
If like the OP the only thing you are interested in is PVP, this might not be the game for you. It's a great PVE mmo though.
Edit: what i said wasn't nice.
misinterpreted what you said, nvm
It is preferable not to travel with a dead man.
and the one single button click fest on other mmos is the new cutting edge technology ?
interesting...
I totally agree with this comment. It seems that alot of the people who rag on the game talk about how bad the PvP is. I can't really speak for that because I'm not too into PvP. I do know that I've been playing for a little over a month now and I'm still having a ball. I was told in a different thread that I would learn once I got out of Tortage that the game sucked. Luckily for me that didn't happen. I was told by someone else, in the same thread I believe, that I can't say that the game was good until I'd been playing level 80 for a month. WOW! I don't know if I'm having fun unless I've been playing level 80 for a month? WTF? I know I'm having fun right now and that's all that matters to me.
I also wanted to point out that the OP said he made 80 in 3 weeks. I have to wonder what game could keep anyone satisfied if you're playing it that much. I'm not knocking you. We all have different play styles and I also know it's not extremely hard to level in this game but that seems like alot of playing in a short amount of time.
One more thing. To the people who say the game is dying: I have to say the population seems to have increased by a large amount in just the 5 or 6 weeks I've been playing. Not only does the game seem more crowded but I myself have gotten 2 friends from work to start playing and they too are enjoying it. We all have a casual pace play style though and none of us PvP.
Could it be better? Of course. Is it for everyone? No. It needs polish here and there and more content is always nice in any game. But it's keeping me happy at the moment. I'm sorry that it's not that way for everyone. But not even the great WoW was perfect for everyone. I hope you find hapiness in your next game.
Just my 2 cents. Now back to your regularly scheduled program....................
- Rangers are problem only on low levels (I mean in duel). On higher level most of the classes can beat ranger 1v1. But its still great group class and most coward class in game.
- I think that you can cancel your combo at any time if you want (at least I beleive so).
- Thats exactly true for duels, one mistake and you lose. But most of opponents makes a mistakes too and some classes are more dependant on mistakes than others (low HP and low heal chars have to be played without mistakes).

Your main point for quitting the game is that you were getting ganked. It's true that it can be bad on pvp servers, but there are pve servers available to you. Also you are saying that the combat system is too complicated? About time that there is a mmo out there where the pvp require skills.
If you don't like pvp AoC is probably not the game for you, but your reasons for quitting the game are silly.
Yes it can be annoying getting ganked, but hey, as they say; "you could always roll pve" or "Don't get mad, get even"
When it comes to the combo-system, it does demand a bit more from the player. A little tip though. don't hit the combo finisher unless your opponent is in front of you and within range.
But as you have concluded, this game is probably not for you. Good luck in finding one that suits your style.

Single button clicking works much better for fluid game play than a horribly frankensteined street fighter system.
Considering AoC launched with a mix of the two, forcing you to use multi-button combos as melee, while casters had auto-targetting single button spells, it gave the worst of both worlds.
My friend who tried the game for a month left for the same reason you did: because they suck at playing PVP. All i can say is good riddance- i hate people who bash the game and say it sucks just because they get killed a lot and can't learn how to play. I've played mmorpgs for about 8 years now and have never witnessed intense pvp such as this game. Its one of the few mmorpgs out there where you actually need SKILL in order to pvp well, not just brainless button mashing. If you just stand there with your thumbs up ur ass trying to mouse click your skills while your opponent dances around you, you are going to get destroyed, even if you are 10 levels higher than whoever you are fighting.
Rangers suck during end game. If you actually took the time to figure out how rangers work and how to kill them, instead of cry and cry, you would have taken down a few by now.
Just to be a little bit contstructive, here are a few tips:
If they try to gank you, hide behind a rock and regen ur health til they come to you. if you are snared, put up ur directional shields, do active block, and pop a potion for the duration of the snare. If you want to go attack them, do run straight at them because there is likely a trap right in front of them. Lastly, rangers cant attack and move at the same time.... this is a HUGE problem from them.
If theres a ranger squad ganking you, try to use common sense. 4 of them, one of you. no shit you are going to lose. Rally up the other people they are ganking as well, form a team, then kill them.
Anyway, to the rest of you, if you want a challenging gamem play AoC and join an open pvp server. Its tough at first, but its balanced enough that if you use your brain and you dont give up after 5 minutes, you will succeed and have fun. You will die like nuts at first, especially in the first open pvp areas, but if you will eventually get better. If you want easy mode mmorpg go join the op and play [insert generic asian grindfest mmo here]. In those games you can make up for your lack of skill by outgrinding everyone else and buying from gold farmers on ebay.
