Must be awful having so little imagination you can actually say something as stupid and ignorant as "roleplaying should be banned". Wow, you must really hate fantasy. You don't read fiction either, do you? Hell - WTF are you doing in a MMORPG? How do you stand the hated lore, quests and the people who enjoy that? Maybe you would be lot happier playing Quake. I know we'll be a happier with your deadened psyche well away from us.

I'm curious - do you guys think people like this are just trolls trying to get a rise out of people who enjoy the lore or are actual RPers? Or are they actually psychologically unable to enjoy fantasy? Seriously. Cause I wonder at times if they can actually really mean crap like that. I mean I dislike personally doing many things. Doesn't mean I harbour ill will towards those who do.

I get the feeling this person uses the "word" pwned a lot for some reason...

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

Its fairly par for the course in WotLK

All fantasy games have a certain level of  "Go there and murder N" , some to an ethnic cleansing level - but I noticed a much nastier theme in WotLK than usual esp in a game where neither of the major factions is considered "evil"

I've seen quests which involve -

    Kidnapping of children (daily!)

Deliberate deforestation (ok, this isnt a heinous crime but its still indicative of the amoral trend)

Torture of prisoners (which the KT lot are too wimpy to do them selves <cough> rendition <cough>)

Assassination whilst under flag of Truce

Organised murder on a genocide level

If ulduar has child slavery and rape I think they'll have the set.

I know its only a game and its only pixels but if its a conscious choice then I'm worried about the direction of a game that seem largely directed at the less mature audience.

    If its a unconscious decision....

Hi. I am new to this game. Where do I sign up to hurt the children?

    Thanks.

When exactly did WoW have to become politically correct? Come on it isn't like these children are actually going to suffer from anything players do. They are NPC ie not real. Get over you high and mighty attitude and let people have some fun.

Next you'll probably be slamming Brewfest.

To those who say that this flys in the face of the event.... the achievements are a seperate part of the game from the event. It doesn't really fly in the face of the RPers either. They have a choice... be evil (many role players like this kind of thing) or be good and don't do the achievements. Seriously, if you don't like this then don't do the achievements. Not everything in life needs to be treated as a crisis, especially when the topic in question is in a video game.

You're right (though I do think they're rather tasteless as opposed to funny), only shouldn't someone RPing a good character, e.g. Paladin bright! :-D have a chance at meta-achievements as well? Blizzard seem to have their head up their arses when it comes to RPers as per usual.

    Sounds likely yes.

Still, THIS ISN'T FUNNY. Kaplans just been gone for WOW a few weeks and they pull a stupid joke like this. Tasteless.

It so apparent that many people in this thread do not even play WoW. Especially this poster. The constant references to April Fools have got to stop. The achievments were introduced in early October of last year. All of them were easily viewable at that time. The content of this achievement has not changed, it has been in place since that time. I have been dreading this achievement since that time in fact. Not since it makes me damage the poor children, that I really do not care one way or another, although the article written raises some very good points. This achievement does fly in the face of the spirit of the event

No, why I dread this achievement is because it forces PvP, and I do not PvP......ever. I do not care for it in any way, On top of that some of the assigned tasks such as successfully carry the flag in WSG are not even remotely possible for my class.

    ahh so "childrens week"

I guess this is where the majority of the market is.

Deborah made very valid points.  i will opt not to 'earn' an achievement in this World Event.  i don't view something as PC but whether it is correct or humane.  that this is a virtual or fantasy world is not the issue and i don't have to go with the flow and i don't need a ribbon with everyone else to make me feel good.  i already wrote WoW and expressed my concerns. i believe in pay-it-forward and random kindness.  the nice thing about WoW right now, is not having to do something distasteful and still making level 80. i will say, if i still had children at home (we've played EQ & WoW with our sons) we would discuss why the new Children's Week achievement is wrong.

I used to play WOW hardcore, sick of it now though I think its more me then WOW dunno.

I dont give a shit about the child abuse achivements for childrens week.  But to be honest I've given up on the lore of wow ( lorelol). Blizzard doesnt care about lore anymore, most of the players dont, so I dont either. Damn Russian space squids. If I was still trying to roleplay I soppose it would depend on your character. Orcs, foresaken and my power mad warlock wouldnt think twice about this. So really I dont see it as a big deal.

If you want to bitch about WOW, complain about the constant dumbing down and streamlining. How dual specs hurt pure DPS classes, how arenas killed world PVP, something more palatplbe.

To be removed in patch 3.1, I suggest better research before writing such articles next time.
