Hello, my first time getting a gaming rig, always had a normal hp pavillion or so, I was looking into customizing on cyberpower, or buying an already made one from newegg/tigerdirect but I just don't know what I'm looking for! FIrst I head dual core is better then quad, then i hear the GhZ is what matters not the cores, so I wanted to see what an expert gamer would recommend!
Games I play: AoC, WOW, COD4, CS:Source, looking to play high end graphics ones though like crysis and fallout 3, etc.
I have a 9600 GT Alpha Dog XXX Edition graphics card i'd probly take out of my old rig to use on my new one, so should I do SLI and get another or no?
Currently have 3 gb of ram and 3800+ amd athlon single core processor with 160gb hard drive space, want around 500gb though,, and XP SP3, want vista
Looking to spend 500-700$, 64 bit vista ( upgradable to 8gb of ram would be cool, but would i even need 8gb? if not 4gb is fine), and whatever I need to play any games at a great framerate.
Thanks to anyone that's willing to help me out! ^^

Here's what I would get:
MOBO
CHIP
RAM
That’s about 275 before tax. The Foxconn is a good board but you really need to be able to use the Ethernet and sound that’s integrated into the board because it's a mini board and with a large video card it leaves very little room. That would leave you around 400 dollars to sort out your case, power supply, hard drive, and Vista. If you have a 500 watt power supply with SATA connections and a case already, then all you need is a harddrive. That means you could still afford this Vista.
I'm more or less looking for a whole new machine i.e. HD, DVD drive, case, card reader motherboard, Gfx card, , etc. cause my old rig is about shot ( the dvd drive doesnt work, the case is all banged up, card reader chooses to work sometimes) hence why im buying a whole new setup, I'm looking for the wholle package and see what is the most I can get for around $600
I don't think a case, hard drive, DVD, and power supply would put you out of that range, but adding even the cheapest version of Vista would. In that case you might think about not getting a phenom chip. AMD has some really good chips for about half the price of the one I listed. I think your Video card is fine.
For what you want to play.
* Your video card is fine for now. No point in getting two, be better to wait another year and upgrade then.
* You only need 4 gig of Ram really. Not sure if 8 gig would make that much of a difference. You can always download a free program to monitor your Ram usage and CPU usage and you would be surprised at how little is actually used.
* I would say go for a Hard drive with 7000+ speed. You can get cheap hardrives but most will be 5500 speed.
* Asus make good mobos. I bought the Maximus extreme and its been pretty freaking good. Use a nvidia card in it but you can SLi the Nvidias in it.
You do not need 8 gigs. I understand ram is cheap, but save yourself the cost and stick with 4 gigs of good 1066 dual channel. I use G skill.
Do not buy a prebuilt PC. Build your own gaming rig. It is not hard. Im no tech trained guy. Im a gamer that wants good graphics. I watched online tutorials to learn how to build a pc and I built mine fine. If I can do it, you can do it.
Buy an asus MOBO in the 100-150 dollar range, get yourself and amdx2 6000+(3.0) for less than 100 bucks, and you are good to go. Dont forget a good full sized tower with fans on the side panel. I got my case for 60 bucks and it has 6 case fans. My temps are fine
You picked an overly expensive chip. Quad core is nice but a 3.0 dual core is cheaper and much more effective when your playing a video game. If you were rich and could affor a 3.0 quad core, then yea, go for the quad.
All thats left is a good power supply. Spend money on quality here. Expect to pay a couple hundred bucks. do not waste money on modular power supplies. I did. I sent it back. Gamers tend to have enough fans alone to completely negate the "space savings" of modular supplies.
I find vista 32 perfect for my gaming needs. Sorta expensive
I splurged ona decent harddrive. You can get a fine hard drive for 60 bucks.
Dvd drive cost me 20 bucks.
dont get anything less than a nvidia 260 216 vid card.
as mentioned below me, do not buy micro atx parts. spend some time looking at the specs of the parts. Micro atx is small, you will need a small case that will fit small video cards and have heat problems. standard atx is the way to go
problem is the foxcon is micro ATX board its no where near as expandable as a regular ATX board. try some MSI brand boards
WHat do you think of this pc?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229075
It seems like it has everything everyone has been talking about, plus its already built. Only question is if the motherboard is any good?
Im not liking the pwer supply, mobo, ram and video card. In my opinion it would all have to be replaced, therefore negating the cost savings and ease of buying prebuilt.
Now will this PC perform much better than a GAteway... yes
Ok, built my own, tell me what you think, i chose no video card because i have my 9600 GT i'd swap in

I dont own this case, just a quick search and I came across it. SOmething like this, full tower, has side panel fans is something to look for.
I actually use this because Im a nerd. It has side fans and a top fan and is cheap as hell.

No offence...But dont even listen to half the crap you just heard. Wow... frist off AMD is not even a close to a Intel now. its low end consumer crap. Just look it up Second if you spend money on low end out dated parts. You will just have to upgrade sooner. Right now there is nothing that is coming out for the next year that will tax a system.
the computer below is a comp i have built 6 times in the last month for my clan.

this system can Overclock nicely on Air. Hit up my Fourms if you need help.
if your wondering what i run take alook...before the AMD fanboys with bullshit computers start flaming me
the Rig on the right is one, just like the one above. and the other is my Gaming rig. (just pulled a 295 out and and went with a 285, waiting on the next 2 for tri SLI)

All I can say here without a good bit of research is:
Ditch the 9600, do not go SLI, it's a total waste of money (and that's not me talking, it's everyone else too). Try to get something more like a 260. The 9600 probably won't like Fallout 3 all the way up.
I read something about a 5500 HDD speed, that's nearly archaic. 7200 RPM is standard, and you can pick up a 300GB drive for 45 bucks at that speed. Do not buy one at 5500.
I also don't recommend buying one of those "Custom" made computers, they tend to be rip offs with "Professional Wiring" that you'll probably ruin next time you install something and other crap of the such.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103228
just buy a Dell. or if you want to spend the extra money, go with Alienware (which produces higher end PCs than Dell, but the two companies are now working together).
i like to build all my own desktops, but unfortunately laptops arent so easy to build = I went through Dell for my laptops, and their service is top notch. just after the warranty on my laptop expired, my laptop crapped out on me (bad video chipset). I called Dell and explained the situation, they repaired it for free anyway. you don't get that kind of customer support from many companies these days. they truly are the best.
"Good people are good because they've come to wisdom through failure. We get very little wisdom from success, you know." William Saroyan
um im running 9600 gt sli.. fallout is fine.. running on max at 1650:1050, there is nothing wrong with 9600 gt sli.. its still probably best scaling card in sli ( i dunno about new 280~ gtx etc.. but i doubt ) i bought my rig year ago and it was best bang for the bucks.. and its still good..
9600 gt in sli will outperform 260 gtx, and will be on par with 260 core 216 or whatnot thats called now..
its nowhere near as fast compared to e8400, so its cheap.. but it have half the power.. dont look at the actuall number..
dell is known for support.. thats the only reason to pay 1,5x price , and 0 reason if you buying non laptop.. so yeh.. dell isnt gaming computer maker
ahhhh ahhhhh ahhhhah that was the most un tech shit i have ever heard....very simple if you pay for a namebrand Comp maker YOUR PAYING 2x WHAT IT WILL COST TO BUILD IT YOUR SELF!
they try to give you this bullshit rap that there support and tech and warranty will make up for it...lol...
man the world of bonehead consumers.
All PCcompanys like DELL and the JOKE "AILENWARE" buy the parts from the same companys and put there stamp on it.
all part companys now adays have lifetime warrantys on ther parts...So why do you need DELL'S? If your willing to spend twice as much cuase you dont want to read the instructions be my guest....why are you all even here go back to Xbox..
your fish ....swimming in a pool of shraks. Acting like your elite to Consoles Systems and your running Computers and tech levels compaired to a PS2 or XBOX 360 ? (both right around a P4 3.6 and a 7600 GT)
And the worst part is you Add your horrid 2 cents after i answerd is question....the computer i showed him would blow away anything you posted and can be OC and upgraded to SLI (and what are you talking about SLI isnt worth it....Coming from someone that hasnt run one?. SLI distroys everything on the market the best being tri GTX285's

I'm not flaming but that comes to 888.00 before tax and without an OS. I just don't see a need to spend that much for a quality system. If you have the money and want to that's fine, but it isn't necessary.

Yeah, I was looking around 600-700, no tax here, OR resident. But thanks for the input on AMD!!
like i said you can play with the numbers......take a look at each item. thats your standerd. give or take . you need a know what your base line is.
so if you need to refine the price alittle
you can mess with the:
HD- but thats reall the cheapest for the Space
Power supply, move down to the 750 watt. No lower
move the case down to Antech 900 ( damn shame not getting the 1200)
but dont mess with the....
CPU E8400
GPU (video card) 9800GTX (G92)
MB (motherboard) 750i
Each of these products are the same hardwear but diffrent companys make them so......
you can get a cheaper version of the MB and GPU. I think XFX makes a cheaper ones.. but EVGA support and Tech is the best on the market. BFG being in second.
look at it this way. you cant wait to buy an new rig. cuase your 200 shy.... so you buy the cheaper PC 6 months from now "Crysis Hammer" comes out and you cant play it. without an upgrade....now your fucked. the PC you bought was too far out of date to upgrade.(the right way)
the one i showed you is the Cut off point for games now and that will be.. and i pushed that line back. any less, and you will be on these forums in 8 months asking "what can i do"
And Also for all the "I can run that game on my old garbage PC" they are not running the game the way it should be
the whole point of haveing a PC is to play Games with Higher Rez than Consoles. Why on earth would you pay 300+ more dollors to buy A PC that runs Games @ lower settings than A PS3 that is fucking stupid
And for all you that really dont know. i will help you out.
PC's Vs Consoles.
in order to have a pc look better than a Xbox 360 or PS3 you need to have"
Min sys req.
A monitor @ 1920 X 1200
9800 GTX or better
A video card with 512 memory (more memory the better Monitor Rez you can get and run nice frames)
a dual core CPU 3.0 or higher ( if not you will bottleneck your Video card....makeing it SLOWER) note just becuase its 3.0 dosnt make it good. take AMD...there top of the line chip still slower that the E8400 in most Apps
Memory 4g DD2 800
your Settings should be no less than
2x AA
16xAF
Vsync ON
if you cant have this setup at least...... make sure you never post in a PC vs Console thread. cuase you have no right.
For REF.

Look at the table. Not much really where you could claim the XBox 360 is ahead. Perhaps a bit more RAM, but the PS3's RAM (or at least half of it) is much faster so that should put that ahead. In terms of video the HDMI 1.3 spec allows for not only HD video (1080p) but also the HD audio which will be used in upcoming Blu-Ray movies. Blu-Ray movies for those unaware are one of two upcoming competing formats (the other being the lower capacity HD-DVD). All Blu-Ray movies are encoded at 1080p (1920 x 1080 resolution, compared to 720 x 576 for PAL DVD's). Another big annoucement is that the controller, as well as being wireless, will be tilt sensitive so you can tip it to move things in the game world. Sadly it also loses the rumble feature. Anyway enough of the talk. Here's the hard facts for PS3 and images of the system - including the new controller design.

Frankly Im a fan of the e8400 and the e8500 if you plan to just game. Add in some DDR2 1333mhz. Tack on a Xigmatek CPU cooler and your screaming for a decent price. Stable as a rock. Cheap to. Your looking at 365 bucks before rebates, plus about 160 for a decent gpu.
One thing to remember is, if your going to do any rendering, go AMD or Quad Core intel. I personally prefer the AMD Phenom 2 x3 720BE.
Its a quick little cpu which costs much of nothing. Heaps of power and with the 4th core unlocked like mine turned out to be able to, I have a quad for less then 140 bucks. Renders like a beast. Add to that you can get a MOBO and Ram combo at newegg which includes ddr3 1666mhz ram and you are screaming for much of nothing. Add in a case, a good heatsink and you looking at a computer for less then 600 bucks versus a good e8400 system which includes ddr2 for the same price.
Just remember get a good PSU! You dont need a huge amount of watts. With a Single 4870 and a AMD P2 X3 720BE you can run it off a 500watt Antec Eseries. Just remember go for efficient PSU's. More then 80 percent! Id recommend 600watts though. I run on 500 though since I have such a gosh darned cold case. Sheesh is 8 120mm fans enough lol.
Please do NOT buy a PC right now.We are about to unleash Windows 11 and everything high tech and new will need to be utilized with W11.Sure it is based on the same end as DX10,but it will have some differences. One of their main goals was to make the new video cards actually WORK in gaming with W11,so i expect a huge step up in GPU's and there usefulness.
Anything you buy now will need bios updates ,and that is if they can deliver, i would just wait until about a good 6 months after Windows 11 comes out,so you get the true compatible hardware for W11.I would say around Christmas time this year, would be a great time to treat yourself with a new rig.So you know i could easily buy top of the line right now if i wanted, but i made that mistake when VISTA came out,now i am willing to wait.
ALSO do NOT believe anything you see posted on websites, often they are given higher tech with much faster components than we the user get from the store,it is all part of their marketing.I have seen VERY little improvements in tech when compared to what they claim.I would say every upgrade i see about a 20% increase, while they claim things like 300% increase,it just isn't so.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I'm sure by Windows 11 you mean Windows 7, right?:)
