Few will quit WoW just to play a different WoW from the beginning.
Maybe, but I remember a time when people flooded to new servers when Blizzard opened them, and played the game from the start all over again.
But they didn't have to sacrifice their current WoW characters by choosing where to spend their $15 (granted, there are folks who pay more than 1 WoW subscription, but I'm referring to the generic gamer who is really only going to invest time and money in one game).
However, as folks wait out Cataclysm, they're certainly more likely to consider a temporary break. If Alganon can release itself long enough before Cataclysm hits, they'll have a shot. If they can't get it together before then, they've got less of a chance for success. Remember, if you snag only 0.5% of WoWs 11 million+ subscribers, you've got clost to 60,000 people. Enough for a start with.

you're forgetting that WoW has atleast 70% casual players which have barely any interest in playing other games, because well WoW is fun and barely have interest in looking for other games, and the other 30% of their population are the hardcore raiders, and love the pve and genious pvp contents, compared to alganon this game doesnt look like it will have even the smallest amount of potential to pull out something like raids, or big time instances, or even the types of BGs that WoW has to offer, as far as it will probably get is a typical PvP system. (oh noes a guy from the other faction, *pew pew*)
and if Aion, this crappy asian WoW clone that has been so highly anticipated will barely take a little crack at WoW what in the hell would make you think this game will? this is seriously just another WoW clone. (Mannnn a studying system, that will sure take down WoW)
You can be serious. Look at this. If I didn't know where I had gotten this screenshot from, I would have guessed it was WoW:
QFT, I've never seen such a blatant copy. Ever.
Yes, because we all know Blizzard didn't copy Workshops Warhammer when they create the Warcraft franchise with an RTS game. *rolls eyes*
Warcraft was a canned, nearly completed Warhammer game. Can't blame them for changing the story up a bit and releasing the game anyways. I don't care if this company flat out copies WoW in every regard if they add some rather nice features on top of it all. Blizzard needs someone to seriously challenge them (so they can steal some new ideas).
The one thing that is interesting is that the WoW engine is one of the most understood pieces of code in the world without the source code being available (Windows is likely number one). I wouldn't be surprised to one day see a news article about Blizzard suing some more people for copyright infringment of the WoW game code.
Forever looking for employment. Life is rather dull without it.
Many games wrongly get called a clone of another game. But everything I have seen of this game really cries CLONE! Its not the just the look of the windmill or the interface. Just look at the screenshots on their page. Every single one looks as if they took something out of wow and copied it.
Just watched the videos from their web site. It reminds me more of Runes of Magic than anything.
I don't know much on the details, but it looks like something that could do pretty well. Its sort of hard for a P2P to do much worse than what's been happening the last 2 years.

www.ActionMMORPG.com One man, a small pile of money, and the screwball idea of a DIY Indie MMORPG? Yep, that's him. ~sigh~
Ok while I really REALLY don't like to make any WoW comparisons or call it a clone...I've got to say there seem to be ALOT of similarities here. Don't get me wrong, I understand it's not released etc. etc. and perhaps it's just that the genre is similar but I'm really interested to see the differences.
I f you really knew anything about the game and it's obvious you don't, you would know that they aren't trying to reinvent the wheel. Why not take what works from wherever, put your won twist on it and go with it. It doesn't violate any copyright laws so I'm fine with it.
As someone else mentioned having a UI that is familar makes it much easier to get into the game. You don't have to spend hours trying to move or figure out how the interface works. Everyone has their own opinions and are entitled to them. I for one like the game and as a Closed Beta tester I can assure you the content is nothing like wow's.
I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
Ditto to all the folks who pointed out the many ways Warcraft is a rehash of other games before it -- I had that thought when it first came out. There's some real similarities in the look and feel, obviously, but that's true across several games.
However, I also had the thought that more people have direct experience with Warcraft, so Warcraft is what people are going to compare it to. It's going to happen. Heck, that's a selling point given how much Warcraft did right and how that opened up the world of MMOs to a much broader audience. But it's really not the same game.
My first impresssion of the game was WoW also. I looked at all the screenshots and they looked so close. Did you ever think the reason they are making this kinda cartoonish is because it wont require a beefed up system? If the graphics were like EQ2 and Vanguard, you would need a decent system to play.
Not sure if I like the huge numbers above MOB's heads.
