The graphics aren't bad at all. The depth of the game though is lacking. The PvP is trash simply because it's the most unbalanced system I've ever seen. I played a Abyss Walker who could two hit almost any equal level class minus tanks. Up until they gave every damn pure caster in the game sleep only one or two archers, ONE DA and some monks could ever touch him.

In C2 casters get criticals on spells. How unbalanced is that? The ability to do 4x the damage with a blessed spirit is pretty insane. A Spellhowler will be able to 1 cast any class in the game save some orcs. Sad that a PvP based game is so un balanced.

I can't share your opinion, even if DAoC is some years older then LA2 it still is much more fun.

There is no great PvP in LA2, it's a boring hack & slay rpg with a bit enhanced gfx. No match to DAoC, imho.

    L2 the best game?

    Compared to what?

I found it to be less than engaging. It felt more like a poorly made console game than an MMO to me. The character customization is non existant. The gameplay is weak and unentertaining. Just alltogether a cheaply made knockoff of real a real MMORPG in my opinion.

L2 is great until about level 22, then it sucks.

The grind is something only a summer-off student or an adult on unemployment could deal with.  Combat is boring, fighting the same old monsters for several levels at a time.  Very little loot unless you are a dwarf, rare treasure drops are about 1 in 500,000... good luck!

All players are the same, no uniqueness what so ever.  Must kill thousands of green (easy) mobs to just make one level.  My friend (level 53 dwarf) took 5 hours to get 3% in his level... die and it is -8%, and yes you can lose your level.

    Awful waste of time.

I just couldnt get into this game. Too much of a grind. Also, I don't know if it was the server I was on but I couldn't level up because every time I went out to kill mobs I would get ganked by some jerk for no aparent reason. This game is for the L33t goobers out there. If you are more of a casual player, I wouldn't go near it. That's why I liked DAoC PvP better. You can still get ganked, but only if you are doing something like hunting in the froniters.

I will say this, however. These are some of the most crisp graphics I have ever seen in any game. Much less a MMORPG. Only problem I had with the graphics was that all the character models look pretty much the same. There is some slight variation in hairstyle but thats about it. Did they ever fix this?

If Lineage 2 would have done 2 things I'd still be playing that game:

    1) Lessened the level grind.

    2) NO xp loss at all when you die. Zip, nilch, nada. You only have the chance to drop equipment when you die.

I play lineage 2. I like it, but I woul dnever say it is the best MMORPG out there. However I would not say it is a console either. Yes the level grind sucks, the graphics are great, and character customization is not there at all. However, one thing alot of people that just give it a couple weeks is the immense political system. Power changes constantly, and if you just take a break form the grind there is plenty to do.

It wil be interesting to see who controls the server from time to time. There is alot you miss by just "skimming" the game. I do understand why people would not like it. I personally hate DAoC. One of THE most boring carebear(I am not one of these l337 cats either) games I have ever tried to play. Graphics suck, animations were horrible, and wow I am sorry notihg caught my attention. I actually fell asleep playing this game. However I can see why it appeals to some people. And hey if you like it thats all that matters.

BTW, I have a dwarf, a Monk and a PR, no way are you going to 2 hit any one of them. Not possible if we are equal levels.

Most of this is just MO. That last part is fact.

    Cheers!

carebear is the most childish thing i have ever heard in my entire life.  Seriously whats the arguement for it?  "ummm yeah i have no life so i sit around my computer all day, so im really high level, yay for me.  Now its time to go make people miserable.  Hey look that person just fought off some really hard monsters and barely lived, im going to go kill him!  Hey look that player is killing some orcs, im gonna go kill him!"  That isnt fun.  That is just.... immature.  I know very few people over the age of 18, that act like that.. and the people that do... well i just dont hang around with them.  To me pvp is fun when everyone is willing and you get a good fight, you could die but hey thats the fun of it.  Even in like any FPS you get to choose to play there.  but if you play a game like l2 you can not choose not to pvp.  I actually started to play again after i got bored on my level 23, started a new character just to get some time away from that character, went from a fighter class to a mage, and was trying to level, and in the noob areas there were about 4 different pks, that could easily one shot me.  For like 2 hours there were pks running around there, then i just gave up and quit.  Because very rarely in the game did i see anyone fight someone whos a challenge.  People just ran around killing people lower level.   Heck even when i duel my friend all the fucking nerds run up and start attacking us, cant even duel my friend without getting people running up and attacking me just because my name is purple.  HECK even when theres a bot and someone kills it, then everyone jumps that player just because his name is red.   So most people just ignore bots because they cant kill them without being jumped by a bunch of 13 year old/asians(no offense but its true)

LOL i love the term "Carebear". I mean seriously....u call someone that doesnt like all out PvP a carebear because it means they arent tough?

If being uber and badass on a video makes u feel good about yourself and takes your mind off the fact that u are the biggest pussy ever IRL and try to make up for this fact by being all hardcore on a game, then go for it.

U see that? i just made a generalization about ppl that are obsessed with PvP. And yes im sure that some non-carebears ARE fat, useless, 35, angry at the world and still live in their parent's basement...it's still not right for me to say so. because i dont know u personally.

So in closing ill say the same thing to ppl that use the term carebear and i do for ppl that use l33t speak.

    STFU dork. image

Oh i almost forgot about the topic....L2 the most thrown together piece of crap mmo ive ever played. never before have a met so many rude, racist children in my life. and dont get me started on the economy that is soley drivin by the Ebay market. this game sucks. If u want good PvP go play Shadowbane. dont waste your time with the horrid lack of customization of your character and terrible imbalancing.

The word/verb carebear was developed in the 1990s in response to many people upset over PvP situations.

The word carebear continues in tradition in virtually every mmorpg that has any shape or form of PvP. Many people would label themselves as a carebear while some may take offense to it.

However, the word carebear usually referes to a person who is against PvP or wants to have it remolded to fit their advantages.

It's not a childish thing but a word that has literally become an official word in virtually every single mmorpg.

I am starting to like L2 Alot more since I read this thread. The PvP system seems to keep a lot of the, well how shall I say it?  Whiners off the game.  Waaa I got killed by some dude alot higher level than me.  Friggin grow up it's a game man.

Umm yeah, on the carebear topic, I know alot of people that play MMO's that call themselves "carebear"because they do not like PvP at all.  Cool by me I don' like cry babies or whiners so I tend to stay away from them.  Up until this post I did not consider "carebear" a derogatory term.

Why so sensative about it?  I mean that one cat sounded pissed that he got killed.  Hey man it's a game, lighten up.  Yeah there are immature people all over the world, and most of them subscribe to L2.  It wears on the nerves at times, but ya just get over it.  My advice for every one that wants no PvP/restricted PvP, Don't play L2.  chances are yoru going to get PK'd, and possibly even griefed.  It happens.  Any way.

Oh yeah and Ketboard tough guys...LOL just don't.  Hear about the guy in Korea?  He and anothe rclan leader got in a big fioght in L2 and he lost.  So he went to the rival clan leaders house and stabbed him to death.  I am thinking that dude needs to find a new hobby.  Any way...

    Cheers!

I'm a clan leader so my perspective on this game might slightly be different from those who play as independant unaffiliated lone ranger.

But one thing that has to be said here is that there is a clear reason why I play this game over others.

    The reason is politics.

    A politics based on :

    1. Size (as refered to clan/alliance size)

    2. Currency reserve

    3. Individual level play dictated by individual time/capital investment

    4. Timing of exercise of power.

This might sound very simple and not so much revealing but here goes the nuance.

You would be surprised how complicated the politics can become when you try to take into account the intricacy that exists in achieving all 4 aims at the same time... in the presence of all other competing bodies trying to achieve the same things.

I've been playing and been part of the same clan in Lineage 2 since beta, and its a great game...I tried EQ2 beta and MAN does *that* suck, it lives on the name and fanbase alone. WoW I tried as well, it was decent, but too reliant on its "warcraft factor" imo, which I'd rather see developed in great RTS games than MMORPGs.

Lineage 2, in way like Eve Online, is a very playerdriven game and the open PvP with consequences, makes it for a very interesting and challenging game.

  • RhevinRhevin Member UncommonPosts: 611

I played it for two months. I had to print out 8 pages of Chinese language so I could communicate. If you were lucky to be recruited in one of the strongest clans you may have a shot at a castle siege; not guaranteed though. To play for 12 hours straight for 10% exp gain, I found myself taking a break and playing CounterStrike. That told me that L2 was NOT for me.

If I were to play L2 again this s what would happen:

    1. Strictly North American servers
    2. More race wars that involved more conflict with each other
    3. Took a little off the level grind
    4. Allowed deleveling to a max of 5 levels

However I have to admit, after coming home from work [summer time (college hadn't started)] I could not wait to fire up my DE and poke around for an hour or two in the wastelands.

I'm desperately trying to figure out why kamikaze pilots wore helmets.

Dunno what server you played on, but the chinese problem is rather minor unless you want to absolutely make an issue out of it.

Deleveling is not a problem, only retaining skills is, which is an outstanding issue which needs to be fixed and the devs are aware of.

I don't see any point in a "strictly North American server", don't even think that is legal to make such restriction without completely redoing the game marketing.

The levelgrind is well...the same as in most other games really, its hard...but you do not need to play 12 hours a day to do very well, you just need to optimize your gameplay better, find better mobs and better groups, up your killingspeed and equipment.

I was on Erica and the chinese problem was aweful. The chat screen was always full of chinese; at least near Gludin (or Gludio; the town in the center of the world map ::::37:: I just forget).

You're right, develeing isn't the problem, retaining skills was. It was great when people deleveled so much they retained the "luck" skill. The good ole days on TI getting rocked by 40+ reds.

The North American server would be for the Chinese. I really hate sounds racist, but they had no respect. They'd rip you off, PK if you were hunting in their view, and grief you constantly. Just did not make the game pleasureable.

I know the levelgrind is the same for most games, but there just wasn't any change in things. I wanted to go to war. Kill other PCs. Instead, I felt like the poin dexter in the 3rd grade getting tormented by the fat kid.

I'm desperately trying to figure out why kamikaze pilots wore helmets.

Now the "farmers" are spread out over many areas, so its not so often and bad...heck, now you run into danish, dutch, german, spanish, etc. instead, hehehehe.

It is now against the rules to delevel to retain luckskill and keep items, you will get one warning and then its banz0r city on that one.

Also because its a playerdriven game, now that the players themselves have become powerful, many of the farmers have become more polite and even team up, because they know its in their best interest to remain on the good side of other players on many occations.

Like in most games, you need to grind up your character to be powerful and PvP...now on most servers the powers have been established and you can get into sieges and such...there's even PvP arenas where you can try out your skills.

I suspect that you have only been playing for a while.  Talk to me in a few months.  This game blows.  The grind is insane.  The dath penalty is really harsh and there is a real lack of content, i.e quests, etc.  PVP is gimped because of the lame Karma system.  And to top it off the noob areas, especially the dungeons, are over run with farmers and bots.

  • LordChaos2LordChaos2 Member Posts: 53

I played since closed beta, several of my characters are late 40's or mid 50's, I am in a great clan part of a nice alliance of clans. I know how the game is.

The grind is insane?...lol, as is leveling everywhere really in any MMORPG I've tried, way back from UO all the way to EQ2.

The Death Penalty is a great thing once you've played for a while, its not totally horrible, but it keeps you on your toes and gives you concequences for your action and teaches you to THINK and plan.

Yes, content was limited in prelude, in C1 there's loads of content, C2 thats coming out soon adds even more content, we have loads of fun with it.

The quests are great, many being quite creative (wishing potion, coin collecter, etc.), and the concept of classchange quests is great.

Newbie areas aren't really overrun anymore, only a few places that drop/spoil valuables are camped by chinese and westerners alike. Its been greatly divided out across the server and players are now powerful enough to deal with the problems themselves.

  • EnigmaEnigma Member UncommonPosts: 11,384

I have to agree with Tenbert on this one...

The grind is very insane in Lineage ][. Ive played since closed beta as well...I just couldnt play anymore after lvl 44 (I had three character...that was the highest  I got to)

Ive played at least 14 mmorpgs and I have to say, Lineage 2 is the most grinding intense mmorpg I have ever played.

Not saying it's wrong.  But it's not casual gamer friendly in the slightest. Heck, I even consider myself a powergamer from time to time. But Lineage 2 ...by like the 40th level you were killing white conned monsters and getting 0.000482% per kill (not a scientific research study...just from observation).

It would take me a week on mediu m grinding to hit the next level.

But like i said, some people love that.
