I second quite a few said- Shadowrun, Dark Tower series, Sword of Truth series, Shannara series, Wheel of Time series (though thats in the works already), WoD (also in the works), Forgotten Realms, Dune, Gundam (preferably Wing or G), Fallout, and Serenity. And I'd like to add DragonBall Z, Naruto, Bleach, Marvel (though was in the works, as far as I know has been pushed into development hell), and Final Fantasy (based more on 7 or 8 or even X than that piece of crap we got).
I'd have to agree that NARUTO would definitely lend itself well to the mmorpg genre. I'm actually surprised no one has done it yet.
> Create your own ninja
> choose your school
> choose your powers
> in a battle to become and defend your title as Hokage!
That would be pretty sweet. Not to mention all the "tests" to reach the next level of ninja would be pretty sweet, as well as unlocking new and never before seen uses for your powers mid battle.
other than that, Shadowrun (which I think is in development), and Witchcraft would be awesome.
An MMO about people playing an MMO would probably blow my mind. I wonder if you'd have to log into the world and then log into the world. I also don't think there's any chance at all for a Shadowrun MMO now that Microsoft both owns the IP and has killed FASA. The same goes for Pokemon because Nintendo is just not going to want to spend the money or time when they'll make much much more just releasing the single players like they have been. These would be my two best non-utilized MMO universe votes though.
I'm also not sure about how a Romero-styled zombie mmo would work over time. I suppose it'd make things real easy on the dev team, only having to deal with human models, and rotting human models in terms of animation... I just can't see what you'd do over a long period of time though.
I have thought about this type of game a bit from time to time. I have a few ideas that might work.
1. PvE type game where gamers would defend different city strongholds from zombie onslaughts. Crafting would be important as well.
2. PvP FFA similiar to above, but you also defend against other stronghold trying to loot your goods as well zombie armies.
Only one I can think of that hasn't been mentioned is the Redwall series by Brian Jacques. Would be a good mmo for a younger audience, although if I remember right they have quite a lot of fighting in those books so no reason why it couldnt appeal to an older generation if done right.
1. Dune 2. Shadowrun 3. Anything my family can play together, Pokemon would be great for that I think. 4. Transformers might be neat 5. Fallout 6. Call of Duty 7. Red Dawn 8. Paranoia 9. Gammaworld 10. Star Control Not necessarily in this order Lastly- NO FANTASY (says the 5 year EQ2 vet)
Dune would be so bad ass.
I would love to see something based off of Neal Stevenson's Snow Crash
Out of all these posts no one mentioned Rifts??? Seen a few Shadowrun posts but Rifts has it all. Everything a gamer ever wanted in an MMO. Power Armors, Magic Users, Scouts, Evil Corperation Government, Rebels, Vampires, Juicers, Demi-Gods....PvE...PvP.....Massive Battles, Solo Friendly as well as Group Play. An Insane amount of explorability of land.

Clive Barkers Imajica - lots of different worlds and races.
Deus Ex,
The Godfather, Saints Row, - It would be really awesome to see a gang/mafia based mmo. And yes, I'm aware crimecraft is coming out.
-.-
Waiting for: Archeage, Darkfall 2.0, and Planetside 2.
R.I.P Shadowbane; The best MMORPG I've ever played...

Who wouldn't want a MMO with a unicorn-riding NPH?!?
Other than that:
~Ripper
I personaly think Star Wars would be a good IP for an MMO...
Hmm.... What about Iraq / Afghanistan? I would definetly play a Ghost Recon 1 style MMOFPS with vehicles and Planetside-like customization and stuff.
Dune would be so bad ass.

Nobody has made a Harry Potter MMO. I know there's been games, but I'm talking about MMORPGs.
Runescape
I can't believe I just saw gamma world on here. /tears *memories*
anyway, I want a barbarella mmo.
One where all the players fight for Jane Fonda's attention, but I always seem to win.
What ever happened to having an original IP /=.
