I always check out mmorpg.com and love the site, but after reporting the database failure in Neocron i do hope NC doesnt take you to court over this. I work in Law and they have a right to sue for potential damage to their name and product. Seems alot of upset posts on their forum regarding the Mmorpg.com post.

Most common complait is the potential lack of new customers due to the mmorpg.com post putting them off.

I hope all goes ok mmorpg.com you guys are kewl!!

but personally i think it was a bad desicion reporting this news, but on the other side of the coin, people would expect you too so really a no win scenario.

In reply to you. There isnt one person who is angry about mmorpg.com posting that information on this site. Infact, just as an estimate, out of the people I know, about 50 people have cancelled their accounts with ReaKKtor media because they are the type of company who does not care.

There will be no reprisals. Furture customers have a right to know that the company that runs the game doesn't know how to make and verify a backup of client data, resulting in myself and at least 4 others not only losing items, but losing an entire character who was leveled to near cap.

I wouldn't worry about mmorpg.com. I would worry about ReaKKtor though. Chances are, their shortcomings will finally be the end of them. I can't say that they will be missed.

Well, isn't necron 2 still beta?

It may happen that a database crashes. Maybe the bug was some weeks old and bit some weeks later so that the backup-tapes were useless, I can't believe that a service provider is THAT DUMB to not backup their data.

If they really were, they would deserve the award for unbeatable stupidity.

The data base failure was on nc1 not nc2.If you notice the info on tis site about neocron 2 lots of it is wrong.1st the game isnt released yet as the info on mmorpg says.2nd all the screenshots or atleast the majority of them are from the original nc1 beta no screens at all from nc2.

I personally have stoped playing neocron for the time being and am in no way mad they reported the data base faliure. My only gripe is that the info and screens they have are not even from the game listed but instead necron 1 along with this database failure report.

tbh, ur not mad they reported the database loss? But how upset would you be if you lost an entire character that you created over a month ago, so it should be still there right? Well, it's not. Which begs the question. Did they really use a backup from Sept 5?

mmorpg.com will be fine because they did not do anything wrong.  They simply reported some news, which was also reported by the company that you are saying could sue this website for damages.  First of all, the company caused the damages and mmorpg.com simply passed on the news release, which is legal and would be covered under the Constitution and Federal Law regarding freedom of the press/media, (the press is not really defined except by case law, and even so it is a pretty loose definition that this website/company could easily fall into).  Second of all, Reakktor would have to proved substantial monetary damages caused specifically by the alleged slander by mmorpg.com, which would be nearly impossible to calculate and would be easily argued against under the presumption that Reakktor caused the damages through the faulty server system.

As you may have guessed, I have studied plenty of law, (although criminal law is what I work with everyday at my job).  Anyone who has a basic understanding of civil law would tell mmorpg.com to keep on reporting, there was no slander or violation of any law.

    In print, it's Libel!

And news sources can only be sued when it's proven to be false information that caused damage to the company (being image, credibility or actual monitary damage). If a news source breaks a story about a CEO that lies to the investors ultimatly pulling the company apart at the seams, they are not in any danger of a suit, unless they made it up(thus being slanderous or libelious).

I'd guess he'd be quite upset (judging from my own situation).

I lost in that "backup" the hard work of one month lvling and getting my stuff ready for NC2. And I think I'm one of the few who didn't loose so much of the rarest stuff from the game (several ppl lost lots of 4-5 slot items and mc5 chips that they traded and worked for over the last month). My loss is mostly the 3 chararacters that I spent a whole month lvling to get them ready.. all gone. And ReaKKtor said they won't give anything back to the ppl who lost even whole chars. They give right about nothing.

And yes, they used the backup of the 5th of Sept. cause thats the only complete backup they had.

We quoted word for word what the Developers of Neocron had stated in their own forums.  There is no legal foundation in which to sue over and I am very sure that the Developers hasn't even given it a thought.

Also, I had checked out the response on the official forums. Now correct me if I am wrong, but there were dozens and dozens of angry replies after the official developer response and I am sure mmorpg.com had nothing to do with that.

Quite frankly, I was suprised to see how very little moderated their official forums are. Never saw a thread with so many F bombs in all my life.

whats the big deal, the forum is moderated but there is no moderation against swearing.

and tbh it effects the forum 0%

its not a game for kiddies even if they play so why moderate if as if 5 year olds are posting

Ehrhmm, if it happened and they write about there is NILL chance in any court, even in places were law is something totally different from what most people here know.

Unless it is material vital to the security of a nation NOTHING will happen, and even then history shows that the media can get away with that to. Even if they lie this would be a hard case to win, if it is the truth it is indeed impossible and not almost impossible but completely so. In fact if KK were to sue it would be free money in mmorpg's pocket cause THEY would then have a liability charge against KK.

Not even a lawyer on crack would take on a case like that, trust me.

I think you'll find that one hell of alot of lawyers will take on any case, no matter how Mickey Mouse, so long as they were getting paid.

Funny to see the differences in moderation ideals between forums like this one goes far to protect freedom of speech but then worries about cursewords...  Then you go to those retard's forums and they use their moderator status to squelch everyone who they don't like what they have to say no matter how right the person is.  For the record I'd much rather edit out cursewords then have some simple minded midget neanderthal delete all my posts because they are beyond his mental capacity...

Which brings me to the thread topic... It wouldn't surprise me if KK had a hand in starting this rumour.  They are so backwards in their thinking with facist idealology ingrained into their DNA that they actually believe it is wrong to point out their mistakes...

(BTW for any uneducated germans out there facism = belief that you are better than someone else so you have the right to misuse power to harm them even when you are in the wrong or might makes right)

In reality it is MMORPGS duty to report KK's gross mistreatment of customers as providing information on MMORPGS is the whole purpose of this site and there isn't a court in existence in the United States at least that is going to penalize MMORPG.COM for doing this service to the community..

And if KK has a problem with it then they better learn to FACE THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR ACTIONS AND STOP WHINING LIKE LITTLE BABIES.  These are not arbitrary consequenses inflicted by some morally naive KK staff person these are inevitable consequenses caused by human nature and the nature of a free market economy.  If you screw your customers other potential customers have a right to know and decide weather they should try your game based on this information.  Trying to prevent them from recieving information on your actions is wrong.

I do enjoy reading your posts here.  I have to say I prefer your posts on our "retarded" forums though - they're constructive and not in the least offensive.
