did soe rule out its existance ? like they wont ever make it? or have they said it's possible someday? dunno.. like is there ANYTHING on this? it seem's kinda nuts if soe isn't ever gonna make another EQ...

I agree with you and think EQ is an incredible IP; much too valuable to never use again. VG, however, fell flat upon release, so I cannot see making a sequel for an MMO that has 4 servers to its name (if 4 is still the count).
However, I would bet that EQ would be reborn again someday. Probably years in the future since Sony is working on the new MMO Free Realms atm.
no plans for it but never know what future will bring
SOE has never said it wont happen

MMOFury: Can we speculate on an EQ3?
John Hayase: You can speculate all you want to.

I'd say it would probably be better if they wait for the WoW clone era to die.. I do not wanna see an EQ 3 become even more of a WoW clone than EQ 2 (arcade like).. Everquest used to be about adventure back in the day, risk vs reward was a big part of the game..
But an EQ 3 would be pretty nice, but I think the game world and lore should take place after everquest online adventures when freeport was just a merchant camp but before the scars of velious expansion in the original everquest.
Vy you do know that eq2 came out before WoW right? By one month, so dont say it copies anything.
yea.. But we can probably both agree that EQ 2 has changed ALOT since its launch... It is not the same game as it was when it launched.. And it has become more "casual" than was originally planned. And I think this had ALOT to do with WoW's success...
And do you know Chaosyx that since then, EQII has been made more and more like WoW? That is what he meant, let the WoW wonder die out, since it effects everything...even games that were out before that beast.
It's also effected VG, as SOE has made that once pretty hardcore game very WoW-like
Edit - Vy beat me to the reply
About a year ago smedley said they have no plans to make EQ3, but it is something they would like to get back to in the future. There is also a recent link to some recruiting forum where soe looks to be hiring a lead designer for a new "flagship" mmo.
Personally I think the EQ name is not as valuable as far as IP power goes. To many people would have pre existing expectation or just bad experiences to give it a real chance. Going with a new name or completely different world would most likely do better. Soe thought they hit a homerun with eq2 at release and well it just wasn't very good so I wouldn't expect much from an eq3 to be honest.
Then again I don't think people will care what a new game is called as long as it is something new and entertaining.
There's no such thing as time travel. If you mean risk vs reward like death penalties, corpse runs, kill the same monsters 3000 times before gaining one level it's not going to happen.
If you mean a somewhat seamless expansive world to travel, explore and find challenging dungeons, monsters and places to see then I'm totally with you.

There are some speculations, SOE are hiring for a new "Prestige project" whatever that is.
But it is not at all unlikely that it will be a EQ game for PS3. I wouldn't actually mind a uppolished version of the original game with todays graphics. The question in that case would of course be how much they simplified the game. AoCs combat system are made for consols and it have it's shortcomings, let's hope they not make something like that (or worse) for EQ3.
Vanguard was not meant as a EQ3 (at least not by SOE), it was made by a company called Sigil that SOE bought around the launch. Unfortunatly had Sigil the worst programmer in MMO history so SOE fired them all and have spended 1 1/2 year to get the code working acceptable. So we will not see a EQ3 with Vanguard engin at least.
EQ3 Would be awsome to have and behold.
What i miss from EQ original before all the instance crap zones dugeons from any of these MMORPG's was the Countless trains even the ones in the dungeons use to love those at the entrances too where a group got over run down further then ran for zone exit and out and all of a sudden everyone at the entance/exit was scambling to leave or attack the train.
Even the trains that was done on purpose, before they changed the agro on creatures above ground just for fun a group of us would gather in Everfrost at the pavillion across river,i was king of the Giant Spider trains there as i would go out with my bow taping every Giant Spider out on both sides of the river and bring them to the group which was a blast as when i would bring my train of about 40-50 Spiders (Agro held back in the begining.) to the pavillion all we could see was spidy legs untill we killed them all,we did this when we was level 30 plus (When we were bored) Waiting for raid groups useually.

Putting this link in the EQ3 speculation threads as i run across them . Good source but this is all that has been said to the public about this development that i can find. Its too early to put a thread up in rumor or development forums as this is all that is known at this time. But with that being said let the salivation begin for us die hard EQ fans.
EQ DaoC EQ2 WoW Vanguard AoC Waaagh and beyond
Thank the Gods, thank the Gods, Crom has finally listened to the lamentations of gamers!
Your information is wrong
1.Everquest was not developed by Sony
2. Everquest was developed by Verant interactive (which at the time was a seperate company) wth funding from 989 studios (an independant sony funded studio that no longer exists)
3. The lead designer was brad mcquaid, and they had a working demo to pitch to investers some time in the mid 90's (it was released to the public with a copyright date of 1994)
4. By 1999 sony was disbanding 989 studios and leveraged their rights as investors to purchase verant interactive, then published everquest (which had already been in beta release) (sony basically made them an offer, with 989 studios gone they could have their funding cut off, or get purchased and published)
5. everquest 2 went into almost immediate development after EQ1 met with reasonable success at launch. new teams were hired to focus on expansions, spin offs and the next game seperately
6. brad mcquaid (the originnal designer) also had bigger plans, a complete revolution to the game as a future project (everquest 3), which sony showed no interest in developing at the time
5. a couple years later, brad mcquaid took his team and a substantial portion of the everquest developers that had been hired from 1999 up to that point and left sony to form sigil (another independant studio)
6. all the plans brad mcquaid had for "everquest 3" were redeveloped at sigil as vanguard
7. sony had no problems keeping up production of eq1 expansions, eq spin off titles and of course eq2 simply by hiring even more devs
8. when sigil ran out of investment money, sony bailed them out and purchased the studio, but forced a launch sooner than sigil had originally planned (brad mcquaid has said many times in interviews he wanted 3-6 more months)
you can rant all you want that vanguard was bad, but yes it would have been eq3, and yes its rushed release was sonys fault, and calling them "bad programers" doesnt really justify the fact that sigil was essentially the original team for eq1 and brad mcquaids planned team for eq3.
i was a gm on eq while alot of the drama unfolded when brad mcquaid walked out with most of his people
I think, regardless, that EQ3 is a possibility in the future, even if Vanguard was what was technically to be EQ3. Bottom line, it wasn't.
Also add that, regardless of whether or not people like it, and EQ3 would still have to play the WoW card. It would have to have instances, be more casual friendly, etc... for it to survive and thrive.
I just think that in the way MMO's have become in this day and age, they aren't a tribute to gamers and making things difficult, but they have become all about money and investing millions and millions of dollars to attract a wider audience. Add that, I don't think the vast majority of gamers that are willing to pay a monthly subscription these days wants to invest in the time sinks that EQ1 had, where raids were 4-8 hours. Where raid wipes could take hours to put back together. And farming for AA's took more time than dailys in WoW.
I still wonder if they can upgrade the graphics of EQ while retaining it's appeal.
It would be stupid to make an MMORPG for the PS3 this late in the consoles life cycle, imo it has two to three years left before the PS4 hits the streets.
Consoles have a life span of six to nine years, if you think that that is good enough to make an MMORPG for then be my guest and go ahead.
Theres talk about some EverQuest Next game but with SOEs track record I expect it to be a browser game similar to FarmVille.
And thats my two cents.
All those memories will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.
PS3 owners have been clamoring for a successor to the PS2 EQ title, Online Adventure?. I fully expect EQ Next,if there is one, to be playable on a console. Maybe the PS3 maybe the PS4. MMO's are coming to console and considering Sony owns EQ and the PS3 it would be stupid for them not to do so. Thats not to say it will not be available for PC as well but the future is staring us in the face and only the blind cannot see it.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
Everquest Next is going to be EQ3, It's already been announced.. Whether or not it will be played on a console remains to be seen. I hope to hear more info on the project before the year is out and won't expect it to be released at least until 2012 at the earliest...
