Seattle University

Seattle University provides an ideal environment for motivated students interested in self-reliance, awareness of different cultures, social justice, and the fulfillment that comes from making a difference. Its urban setting encourages independence among its students, as well as increases their leadership skills. Seattle University is the largest and most diverse independent university in the Pacific Northwest, with a student population of 6,300. Offering a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs, Seattle University is ranked among the top ten universities in the West by U.S. News and World Report. Seattle University is noted for its focus on the individual through small, faculty-taught classes and excellent service. Proof of this can be seen in the many students who go on to lead successful lives.
Seattle University is located in the center of Seattle, the largest city in the northwest, and the 14th in the U.S. Seattle is a scenic and cultural center in a setting that includes breathtaking mountain views of the Cascade range to the east and the Olympics to the west. Skiing is less than 1 hour away from the campus, and areas for hiking, backpacking, climbing, and biking are minutes from campus. There are twenty-eight buildings recently enhanced by 157 million dollars in additions, renovations, and new construction.
Seattle University has 44 undergraduate degree programs, which include Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Social Work, and Bachelor of Criminal Justice. The University offers 24 graduate degree programs in seven schools and colleges.: The Albers School of Business and Economics, The College of Arts and Sciences, The College of Nursing, The College of Science and Engineering, The College of Education, The School of Theology and Ministry, and The School of Law. They offer international study programs as well: one for French in France, one for Latin American studies in Mexico, and two exchange programs with the University of Graz in Austria and Sophia University in Japan. These are open to all students in all majors and encourage appreciation of foreign languages and cultures.
In 2003 through 2004 school year, tuition was about 20,000 dollars, and room and meals were about 6,800 dollars. The estimate for books, fees, and personal expenses is an additional 3000 dollars. This adds up to a total cost of 29,800 dollars.
Freshman applicants are required to have a college-preparation program, including 4 years of English, 3 years of social studies and history, 3 years of mathematics, 2 years of science, and 2 years of a foreign language.
All undergraduates belong to the Associated Students of Seattle University. This is the central student organization on campus. This group is organized around an elected president, an executive vice president, and an activities vice president.
Seattle University has classes for almost anyone, for any career path. It is a very accomplished, well respected college, and many of the graduating students lead successful, economic lives.
