Frogster's 'Runes of Magic', which officially went live yesterday, has had 700,000 players register to take part in the free to play MMO.
To cope with all the extra traffic, Frogster had to open another European server, which means there are now a total of nine servers running in English and German. On the busiest servers, ‘Laoch’ and ‘Aotacht’, character creation by new players has had to be capped until further notice. In anticipation of more RoM players signing up, Frogster has additional servers on hand to deal with the extra workload if needed.
During the open beta the highest number of players reached 650,000, meaning most testers continued to play the game after it went live, a good sign indeed.
Frogster recently announced several new features for RoM including guild castles, Arena matches, new dungeons and new bosses. Check out our RoM preview to get a good overview of the game.

The numbers on F2Ps are always a little deceiving......Its very easy to register for any game....that doesnt mean that anywhere near that number play very often........In NA there were 4 servers today (3 PVE 1 PVP) and the 2 I play on dont ever seem to be very crowded......
Osha and Govinda have good population but i have not seen them go high will be intresting to see how the population holds once summer comes along.
Guess how many "new players" registered when they gave out free cash shop currency to every account with lvl 10 char (about 1 hour into the game). And guess how many "new players" were registered before, when the free cash shop samples were not character bound.
Making new account for F2P is easy, it costs nothing and it usually pays off at least a bit. In this game it definitely pays off and even takes business away from cash shop. Publisher does not care or is just ignorant.
Also, they cannot be serious, presenting pretty much stagnant population after release as a sign of success. No wonder, this is about the only MMO that makes old content harder and less rewarding as time passes and new content is added.
I don't know how the situation is on other servers, but in my server the low maps are packed with new players; bth it was a surprise, most old players didn't believe this would happen since whoever wanted to do so could have done it since OB, but fact is, the beginner maps are full. I don't know if they did some extra publicity or something similar, but something must have worked in RoM's favour. And yet the game is not very well known by the gaming community...so who knows..
