Looking for a MMORPG that will keep me interested...

I'm downloading the 7-day trial for DAoC as I write this and can't wait to give it a shot.  After I played EQ for about 2 years, I decided to never play a subscription-type game again because I became such an addict.  Now, like anyone who is downloading DAoC, I'm looking for a game to buy and enjoy.  And, being the cost-conscious consumer that I am, I have been researching a lot to find out which game will suit me best so I don't waste my money.  I want to buy one game and play it for a long time.  Here's what I have found out in a very small nutshell, but please let me know what you think I should buy:

1.  Sign up for the Wish Beta, it looks VERY good =)

2.  The Neocron 2 Beta is free, but tonight it stopped working for me, so the beta testing may be over.  However, I really enjoyed the two days I played it.  I may just buy it if they can work out the numerous bugs and get the NPC's to speak English instead of German...

3.  Although EQ2 looks promising,  can we count on SOE for customer service?  If history speaks volumes to you like it does to me, wait and see how other people like this game before you buy it.  SOE, like many companies looking to make money off you and me, provides customer no-service that is near useless from my experience in EQ.

4.  World of Warcraft also looks very nice, and I may just buy this one since I feel that its makers actually want their customers to be satisfied with their products.  Although I have not looked at it too closely since its release is a little ways away...

5.  City of Heroes has a lot of dedicated fans, and when the price comes down I may jump on board for what appears to be a completely original idea in this genre.

6.  People really seem to like DAoC.  There is a lot of new content and graphics upgrades that are added from time to time.  It seems like the makers want to keep this one alive and well for a long time to come... and a free trial sounds damn good.

7.  Stay away from EA games when it comes to MMORPG's.  People who were enjoying Earth and Beyond and paid a lot of money and, more importantly, time, will tell you how it feels to have the game shut down.

8.  EVE Online - very contraversial about whether or not this game is fantastic or just a graphically interesting experience in space whose appeal dwindles after a few months.

Well, those are just my brief summaries of what I've read.  If I'm wrong, or right, (occasionally it happens), let me know.  I just want to play a freakin' game online and have some fun.

Do you have a link for Dark and Light?  It's not on the list on this site as far as I can tell.

    My top three:

    1. Lineage - People think this game sucks just because of the graphic but this game rules. If it sucks like some reviewers say, why do you think this game has such a huge following(especially in Korea)? I saw that this game is ranked 5.8 but it deserves better ranking.

    2. Dark Ages - Like Lineage this game doesn't get the credit it deserves because of its graphic.

    3. Ultima Online - Old but still going strong.

Also try BladeMistress. You can try it free for 2 weeks. And the subscription fee's only $5 per month. It's a pretty interesting game.

    WoW will keep your interest.

DAoC, EQ1 and EQ2, CoH, or others of the like will not. . .

Not only is the game-play of WoW very pleaseing and intuitive, its depth with a PvE/PvP platform is greater than the others.  Sure DAoC has realms, but the implementation of PvP and meaning/contribution to game-play is non-existant.

In Dark Age of Camelot, PvP certainly does have meaning.  For one, if a relic is taken from an enemy's castle, the realm who takes it will get bonuses.

Also, Realm Points are gained from PvP in DAoC which can be used to purchase new skills.

I haven't even played since New Frontiers and I still think the PvP was very good.  Now it seems to be improved even more with the expansion.

City of Heroes will have PvP soon, when City of Villains comes out.

Anyway, unless a player is looking for PvP specifically, it is not the only feature on a mmorpg that will keep people interested.  Some players don't even like PvP.

Very many thanks to the people that posted a response!!

Prior to receiving the responses on the forum, I tried the free AC2 trial, and I'm undecided about it.  I think I would rather be 1st person perspective, for the realism effect, (I know magic and monsters aren't real, but there can still be realism in fantasy, right?).

I'm trying the free trials for now, being the frugal consumer that I am, and DAoC is next on the list.  I may check out Pristontale after that, based on the recommendation, and move on from there.  I have two friends that play CoH and love it, so maybe I'll end up buying that when all is said and done.  However, they also say that when WoW comes out, they're leaving CoH and buying WoW.

    Thanks again for the replies!

    PT is garbage.

Everyone that's higher levels then you will just steal all your kills.

The combat system is crap.  Whomever gets the last hit gets the EXP for killing it... wtf crap is that?
