What is happening here, with your post, is you're now attempting to change the focus of the topic, then attempting to throw up the "We Win! The "trolls" lose!" victory cry. Nnnnnot quite. Nobody was "pwned" here.
The hell they weren't...
1) DF was claimed to be vapourware since forever, it clearly isn't
2) DF was hardcore ragged on for AGES for its graphics, yet they have been widely lauded by those who've actually played the game (animations & char models excepted).
3) people said FPS combat wasn't possible higher than 40v40, it clearly is.
4) people claimed the October video would never release, it did.
5) people claimed beta would never materialise, it did.
6) people claimed release would never release, it did.
i could go on... there has been so much pwnage of trolls in the last 6 months it's hard to keep up with.
And none of this has anything to do with the OP, which is 300+ people "fighting it out".
You're still off-topic.
In other words, this thread isn't about 40v40 in FPS. It isn't about the game being photoshopped, or vaporware.
since when has mmorpg.com *ever* been about staying on topic?
Irrelevant question.
I'll chalk that up to you dancing around my actual statement... again.
This thread (like others before it) provides a link to a video claiming "300+ fighting it out with no lag". Upon viewing the video, people have posted comments stating that nothing being shown is anywhere close to 300; and there's certainly not a whole lot of "fighting it out" happening either way.
now look who's splitting hairs... are they fighting? yes, so "fighting it out" seems like a reasonable subject line. anyone that can count can see there isn't 300+ there, but so what? unless you're purely there to fraps, not fight, it's unlikely you'll ever get everyone that was actually there in a single video frame.
I'm not splitting hairs. Ironically, you are.
I'm simply saying the claim of 300+ people fighting it out without lag is not backed by what the video actually shows. Basic observation.
This statement here:
"are they fighting? yes, so "fighting it out" seems like a reasonable subject line."
Actually... No. Except for the one scene I can recall where they're beating up on a bank vault, it's mosty everyone running cross-country or standing around. I pointed this discrepancy out already in a previous post... which of course you conveniently ignored.
Just to illustrate what I (and I suspect others) expect when someone says a video shows many people "fighting it out"... Here's some examples:
That's just 4... With a bit of searching on YouTube I could find many more. I know for a fact there's many more for L2 alone with just as much action, if not more. Hell, I've seen more action in mass PvP in LoTRO's Ettenmoors battles than I've seen in any one DF video to date.
Also, notice how those people were fighting *and* recording at the same time? Kinda renders your "purely there to fraps, not fight" comment moot. People do both all the time.
Now compare those videos - in terms of the amount of actual *fighting* - to the video of DF linked here, or in previous posts. By comparison, the sight of 40 or so people at a time running across a landscape or standing around in DF isn't exactly "heart pumping". Although, on the other hand, maybe the fact that it is enough to get fans so excited around here, praising DF to the heavens, is a great indication of just how little the game actually delivers.
I'm sure - expect, actually - that you'll come back with some other spin, make an irrelevant comment, or will perform another convenient "topic hop". That's fine. My point's been made and illustrated regardless.
Further, claiming people started new accounts is purely conjecture on your part.
feel free to offer a better explanation for the mysterious absence of rabid vapourware trolls prior to release and now the influx of new accounts created in the last couple months with < 100 posts that have no other post activity than trolling DF.
No point. I don't know. But that's the difference. Unlike you, I don't presume to know why people do what they do, or don't do. Regardless, a lack of "a better explanation" doesn't change the fact that yours is still mere conjecture.
there has definitely been some forum account rerolling here. the real conjectural part of all this is whether these people are just fat losers in their parents' basement, disgruntled AoC staff, burnt out WOW raiders who can't break the addiction, or paid viral anti-marketers.
Now you've graduated to wild, baseless conjecture.
booyah!
Quite impressed with yourself, eh?

Thanks WSIMike, a thorough debunk of the silly fanboi pablum. I couldn't have so completely and efficiently destroyed his argument as you did. Kudos to you.
Well the thing is... I'd *like* to see some actual mass PvP action in DF. I just haven't yet... at least not in any videos posted to date. Having seen, and been part of events that truly *were* mass PvP, I have a pretty fair idea of what to expect when a video is claimed to have 150+, 300+ or even just 50+ "fighting it out".
So far, I've seen nothing from DF showing anything like that. Could be that the people recording the vids have no idea of what actually makes for exciting footage... Who knows? All I know is, I have yet to see anything resembling "mass PvP" in DF.

I've witnessed what seemed to be about 80 people in a psuedo 'raid' on what I suppose was a hamlet. (sat at a friends house watching him play).
With the proviso that he
a) turned off shadows and all other graphics to minimum
and
b) turned off hardware sound
It actually ran quite smoothly.
Now for me, I think there is nothing in the combat system that shines, its all to zerg and click with a bit of fps style strafe jumping thrown in, just remember to select vertical slash to avoid hitting your mates.
BUT , my friend and his guildies had fun, which is the point. The stories of the big raids crashing half the people out arent isolated incidents, it seems to happen a lot, but for 80 or so the game seemed entirely feasible, and thats nothing to be ashamed about. As ever, its the exageration that gets people questioning things.
As background, he was a PKer on pre trammell UO, as were the people he played this game with, hes been loving the game despite its faults (which he also doesnt deny). I suspect thats the target market.

Bingo. It's the fun that matters. Even all-out PvP in a 20 on 20 situation can be a blast.
But, yes... exaggeration does seem to be common among some of the fans around here, and at the end of the day it does more of a disservice to them and the game. If you're going to post a video, at least be honest about what it's showing. Don't show us a mass of people running cross-country, and then call it a "large scale battle". We *can* tell the difference.

to be fair.. there's that one video where like 8 guys go up an elevator and an enemy dwarf goes down the elevator with them... he dies after he kills a few of them... then a few more dwarves finish off the rest of the 8... so i mean, that was some pretty massive 6 on 8 action there.
or that video where that guy shoots an arrow at some dude that's pretty far away... that was exciting pvp'ness. not sure who died in that video, most of the pvp was a group of like a dozen dudes just running around some random city. since none of them were guard tower ganked, i'd have to guess it was the local militia on a morning jog?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
