Questions from a not-so nubee

AbraxosAbraxos Member Posts: 412

So last night my wife and I hit 34 with a Dark Elf and a Troll from Neriak. I am getting the basic vibe of the game but had a few questions that are confounding us.

  1. What is the purpose of Master Spells for early level spells? If I am replacing my spell/combat ability every 4 or 5 levels then why would I want to buy Master spells till 60 or 70, unless I just have plat to throw around (which I don't yet).
  2. How do you determine difficulty? There is color/level, and then there are heroic, and then there are little decorative borders around mobs and also arrows above their heads???? We killed two oranges with two arrows and decorative borders and then got our butt's kicked by a yellow heroic. It's a bit confusing?
  3. Lastly, being evil races we went to Zek after Butcherblock. It has that feel of Commonlands and we were wanting to go somewhere else with a more linear (or at least transitional) quest run and were wondering if a Troll and Dark Elf could go to the Enchanted Lands? Any guards or anything we need to be aware of? Will they give us quests?

Thanks for any help!

    1. Master spells at early levels are a waste of cash -- wait until much later, like level 60+

    2. Heroic difficulty can vary based on the creatures abilities too

like the Kunark dogmen you will see at level 68+ are nasty for spike damage

I find that the arrows are a better indicator than color cons (if its only a 1 color shade difference)

    - triple heroics are mean

    3. Solo guide for all levels -- where to quest at what level

    eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Solo_Timelines

Guards are really only an issue for under 20 questing

after that - its anything goes

personally I like Enchanted lands much more than Zek,

anything that is hostile will be hostile to everyone

Thanks for the info. Would you (or anyone else) recommend the Bloodline Chronicles from a loot/quick leveling/awe factor over Enchanted Lands or maybe Steamfont mountains? I'm assuming we could hit Steamfont in about another level and as a newer area I would think it would drop better random loot and such and look better than the older zones?

you may already be ready for Steamfont as a duo

questing starts there in the mid 30s

also try to get a Runny Eye group (dungeon in EL), its one of my favorite EQ2 dungeons

at 40, head to Everfrost for a bit -- can finish Steamfont later

    Everfrost has *nice* quest rewards

regarding the adventure packs, the only one I enjoyed was Island of Mara

    eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Fallen_Dynasty_Timeline

but you need level 55+ to quest there

Nadia is correct that you are ready for Steamfont now. It is a very good zone with nice quest rewards.

I never liked Bloodline Chronicles, but I really enjoyed Split Paw Adventure pack. And that one is scalable from level 20 to level 50.

Like Nadia Said at level 40 go to Everfrost for some fun quests and rewards. Hopefully by then Lavastorms revamp will be live and you can do that one also.
