DF Combat = Mount & Blade?

mindspatmindspat Member Posts: 1,367

I've seen a few comments about this also very little support either way and until last saturday I never even knew what Mount & Blade was, but now I'm hooked to it!

The question is:

Does Darkfall share some or many of the similarities to the combat in Mount & Blade?

People are saying you only have 2 attacks in Darkfall.  Can you thrust an attack or are you limited to an overhead chop?

Do your melee attacks deal more damage if you hit someone with your 2-handed sword while charging full speed at them or is it the same damage as would be done if you were standing still?

Here's a link to the M&B client.  The trial can be played repeatably up till about level 8.  For those of you playing Darkfall I would love to hear your views as to any similarities between the two games:  http://www.taleworlds.com/mb_download.html

    DF combat:

    - Overhead Swing

    - Sideways Swing

    - 6 different skills (knockback, power swing, whirlwind, sieze, and some others)

    - Damage increase if you hit the back of a toon.

There isn't much else besides that.  I'm not exactly sure how the blocking works.

Not even close if it was in bazzaro world and the sky rained ice cream.

    Thanks.

Darkfall is the most revolutionary pvp game on the market to date. Even though it only has two swings (side and overhead) most of the swings are in your imagination. Really there is unlimited swings in the game as long as you imagine them. Also when the people run super fast around you when fighting, it's not speedhacking, it's your adrenaline making things appear faster than normal. It's that hardcore.

Is that the ratio for useful information at this site?  Ask a question, get one decent attempt and two others that prove they bring no value to a forum discussion other then mindless trolling.

If someone is capable of providing a little more detail in the relations to the two it would be much appreciated. An example of what's not requested can be seen in the two dimwit's posts above.

edit: this section of the forums comes in handy when blocking trolls.  It's amazing how much more info is relevant after you've blocked a few idiots.  :D

It is  I suppose  "like" if you count  moving  using  the AWSD keys and look and aim with the mouse. Everything else like directional  blocking/attacking, holding down LMB to feign attacks. None of this is in DF. Certainly putting your back to an enemy is no where near as lethal in DF as it is in MB.

DF is much more whack on / off type affair and a much simpler system. Fans on here will disagree but thats the truth of it.

MB has a far superior combat system and is probably one of the best FPS melee games on the market. Lord Tasos ( ego driven Lead Developer) decided to try and milk MB popularity by saying "like" and giving little else details on combat before launch. As a fan of MB ... I very much disagree and get offended by the comparison.

Sorry your question seems pretty stupid since you answered it yourself....

Fine you want a real answer, I hope your expectations are not too high for DF then.

Mount and Blade combat is vastly superior. You can thrust your weapons in that game like you said and you can side swing and overhead chop. Also in M & B you can use a shield and block and actually counter attacks.

In DF you can side swing and over head swing. Both do same amount of damage unless you are behind them. There is no thrusting action just those two mentioned swings. Yes there are several )6 I believe) different abilities but they all have the same animation and regardless of weapon, every ability is the same. Also the timer on sword+shield makes it so you cannot block and counter as it resets the timer. So essentially everyone runs around with a 2 H weapon and chops or swings. Many call it hardcore, but unfortunatley it is not.

There is no real feature list. The one on their website is a lie. You have to read the forums to see the real features.

Dark Fall's combat fails because it can't even come close to being as cool as mount and blade. Dark Fall combat = chop chop chop with your mouse button.
