I just tried Darkfall...
And I didn't like it. It was like the beta version AoC was when it came out.
I left AoC the moment I fell through a concrete path on a city and couldn't get out, then had a segfault crash the game.
Question is, is it worth coming back to? Is it looking more polished? If it weren't for the bugs and gimped crafting system, I wouldn't have left in the first place.
Comments
If you left due to the bugs and performance issues of launch then you will be very pleased with the current state of the game. DX10 as you probrably know is available in a test version on the live servers and people have had mix feeling on it performance-wise. The DX9 is running great and has been. AoC has been going in a really good direction and after 1.5 the game will really make a turn.
Anyways, for your reasons for leaving... Yes you will be happy with the current state of Conan. The crafting system has also seen many improvements and more are planned for 1.5 and beyond. Hope this helps.
Thank you!
I need to rinse the bad taste out of mouth left behind by Darkfall....
No, I wouldn't. the game has not changed that much, it is still dying.
Heck I just read the front page of the general forum, remember they mod, censor and delete negativity there like communist Stalin era Russia, and it was a lot of negative QQing because of the poor state of this game.

Really?
That's no good... I really want this game to get better--it has so much potential.
I just need something *fun*. Darkfall was supposed to be that... but it was just... off key.
The bugs and crashes have been really worked on and fixed intensively after launch, and as it stands now, the crafting system could be called decent at best. It's getting better as patches fly by, but I don't think crafting will be that good until 1.5 hits around in may probably.
And by all means, don't take advice from a guy that doesn't play and only posts negative posts with his account on the AoC forum part on MMORPG.com. Try to figure out who I mean.
It is preferable not to travel with a dead man.
The 2 main areas of concern you bring up are bugs and crafting. To address these issues the bugs are nothing like they were at launch, in my opinion there are no more bugs than any other mmorpg I play. I fell through the floor too back in June last year. Never again after that month was over. The game has come a long way polished in this area and the official forums are a testament to a higher degree of positiveness in this area. Question on moderation is down to the rules of the boards, it is pretty hard to get banned so you have to ask yourself why would someone do that, which would be down to their context of their post. You bring some crititism of DF yet you do so in an ok fashion as It is your opinion and respected, although some may disagree you will fine this fairness on the official boards. Posts are generally locked if they go off topic or turn into a flame fest - some people just look for trouble remember.
As Alexander said above, crafting quests are all ok now, the system itself has had some moderate improvements but it needs to go further and the next patch will do this not only here but in many areas. Current bugs are trivial at best and are not so game breaking as we experienced at launch. Some people like to cling onto the past and others have a capacity to move on and challenge the game at a later date as there is that inital draw there which is still previlent in yourself hence your post here.
My recommendation would be to find the server you was on, read the official boards under that server specific area, further more take a poke around in all the general area's and read over the first few pages. You will see there are more congratulatory commendations from people coming back from those that didn't still like the experience. You will also find constructively put reasons against the game in many threads that are open. No one likes trash forums for reading but everyone likes constructive comments.
Because you dislike or had a bad experience with DF, do you forsee yourself posting on the boards there 10 months from now promising people the game is still the same? I doubt it. There are many updates AoC has had since launch that include improvements in many areas. Even the official review from this site is out of date due to the changes that have taken place, the extra system mechanics integration and inclusion which on the whole have been well received.
At this point in time when you can pick up game cards cheap or for the sake of a months sub you will be better informed to your own tastes. Furthermore a free trial is slated, although just like other games out there it will be limited no doubt and have restrictions in place ( I would be suprised if it didn't) however, it would be usefull to prove or satisfy curiousity with regards to how the game plays in the performance and bug area.
The developers have really opened up with an open floor kinda format on the official test server forums in taking in feedback from the community which has also helped shape the direction of the game. The particular area of crafting shows a significant response and updates with history on what has happened and more importantly what is coming through which encompasses many community put forward ideas.
There are many recommendations from people recently coming back with some good constructive feedback even posted here over the first few pages too, you will find these outweigh the negative forum campers that would do anything to disuade you from even thinking about trying the game again, not for your benefit, but for theirs.
The game had got better, some potentials are being realised more, and implementation, if a little slow at times has been quality of the past few months. It has all been about fixing the bugs to leave proper focus on the game itself. This can be easily measured if you give it a go and I am sure you would agree or at least meet half way in this area.
To AnyOne Wondering About This Game...
Thank you Funcom!
Resubbed
Current state of the game, and population?
I'm coming back.
Age Of Conan - History of AoC's fall BUT successful resurrection
Impressed

What I think Funcom/Community can do?
Just came back.....lag...please help
You will find a mixture of both sides of the story in many of the above threads, you will also find the general consensus from people posting that they are enjoying their visit back. You will also find issues presented constructively and moderated appropriatly.
Good luck

I played a few weeks ago and felt robbed again. I'm not sure what Funcom has been doing but it wasn't fixing the game.
I agree the game is close, yet so far away. Though right now it isn't even in the middle ground and Funcom keeps focusing on the X pac rather than the core game.

If you subbed in the past use your buddy key and send it to an alternate email. Try the game out before resubbing.

Thanks for the response, AmazingAvery.
Your post was intelligently written, and I read it all. I think I'll probably take a peek and see how it's going for myself.
No problem Sean. What is best is to weigh up the reasons why you left in conjunction with comments from players in the same boat as you but one step further and in game. It helps to give a balance. There are also posts out there where people still experience the same technical issues and others where some come and go. I am not saying "full on" go buy a month as it would be worst if you didn't do a bit of research and went in head strong and didn't like it again. Doesn't help you out. As gamers and me myself I'd rather you be happy in any game at the end of the day. If you can share the same fun I have in AoC then I think you will find it's worth the sub. A lot of the complaints on the official forums are from current players frustrated in wanting the game to be better and not necessarily from those who left and came back and left again in a bad way. Sure there are those people. And no one is hiding that side of things, but really with games everyone is different right, some have some areas of interest others have others.
If your really dubious I'd would either wait till the next patch comes out or wait for a trial. Either way at the end of the day you could see how you get on if good its good if not then that can be good too, at least you will be more informed for future reference.
Hope it works out. A good backbone is finding a good guild that shares your ideals.
This right here is the way to go. If you still have a buddy key, send it to yourself.
I can account for being one of those who has a low tolerance for game issues (LOTRO is STILL on my crap list due to issues from launch that still exists)..but, I came back to AoC and I am 100% pleased with the changes. I originally liked the game style, just could not stand the bugs.
Those bugs are history, and the game is truly enjoyable.
Give the buddy key idea a go, or better yet, find one of those cheap copies, and get a free 30 days with that (I have seen the game as low as 7.99)...it may be starting from scratch...but worth it.
Cheers
I picked up the Collector's Editon for £10 online a few months ago (just installed the game today, lol) ...VERY much worth the price from what I've played.
Have you tried the DX10 side yet? What class did you go for?

I launched the game with DX10, just to dink around with it a little bit . The underwater and God Ray effects are particuarly lovely.
I decided to roll a Guardian, since I want to be useful in PVE (playing on Crom server) and I'm more comfortable playing tank roles from my time in previous MMOs. I'm still in Tortage, but the game is certainly a breath of fresh air at this point.
Edit - also rolled a Demo o/
Ignore this guy, he is a known troll on this forum and is not subbed to the game at the moment.
If you check out his post history you will notice that he comes up with all kind of nonsense in an effort to discredit the game. And is often found contradictng himself.
His first statement is completely false, the game has been optimised to run soo so smooth and most bugs have been removed. With the coming addition of a revamp on the itemisation and DX10 as well as more content the game is definitely heading in the right direction. An expansion is also being worked on so i hear.
The game is far far from dying and in fact a lot of people are coming back to it. The server i play on, EU Crom PvE has players of all levels on it and it is easy to find a group for dungeons etc as well as mini games popping quite frequently.

Well honestly if you left because of bugs, you should get back to signing on again. I tried age of conan, I loved it. Then I hated the PvP, a game with pointless go around smashing up anything that comes across you, no matter the race is kind of pointless to me. Plus I wanted the mini games to actually be active.....anyways I left because of PvP, and I have to say playing the game I only experienced one bug, which wouldn't allow me to regen stamina! Very annoying but that's the only thing I encountered after playing 2 months.
Good luck!
I like cookies.
yes i also say its more stable now and looks slightly better ,BUT i also left because of the pvp
like you can read previous post i have the same reasons.
