Why we love this game.
It just isn't possible for certain types of gamers to understand how a game like this is the pinnacle of gaming for some of us. Did the carebears understand why we loved pre-trammel UO so much? Of course not, and they never will. We might as well quit trying, most people are going to think that Darkfall sucks and I for one have quit trying to make them understand and just be content that I have a game that brought back the feelings that pre-trammel UO did.
Hate it on all you want, I'm going to continue to love it.
Comments
I stopped taking bits at it myself.
every game regardless of how it is will have its playerbase. Heck i even gave horizons a chance (after the last company bought it) and enjoyed it. it has a diehard player base that has been into the game since it came out and endured all the bad stuff that happened, even when that bad company basicly destroyed the game and pay options. No matter how bad it was than and how it is now there are people playing it and enjoying it. I started mmorpgs with ffxi. then hated it to death and guess what, im playing it again . the community matured compared to how i remembered it. I bet darfall which is now in its infant stage will mature well.
Guess the same goes for darkfall. So what if everything that was promised didnt go in, so what if it appeals a nichie playerbase. the truth is there will be people who will play this game and enjoy it.
Prob the only bad thing darkfall has is its fourmbois. those who claim the game is the best game out there obiously stiring negative attention to the game and getting it flamed to death.
You took the best step. Now go back and enjoy your game.

We want you to think we don't understand! Muh ha Muhahahahahaha!
You get 5 out of 5 rolleyes for this post! Yay!
There will be always a few thousands of persons that will feel so passionate about almost any game. You got to understand that not everybody has the same taste.
Hard to understand your point of view when most can't even sign up to play.
I'm pretty sure that's exactly what I was trying to explain in my post.
.
doug: I know man it sucks, it was hard for me to get in as well but I am talking about the game and gameplay itself. Not the frustrations that have come with me, signing up, synch issues etc.
I doubt there is so many haters/dislikers of game itself here. But we all hate AV or whatever company developing DF, they just lie and lie...
People are annoyed when game is "released" but you cant get and it is obvious "paid beta". They should have announced so and people would be happy or smth....
About game itself there is not much to say yet, seems like CS in medieval/fantasy clothing.
They said there will be skills system and no levels... But that skill system just suck if you see changes only each 25skills (dont know if truth)....
So seems some people dont have anything else to do with their time but to bash game they cant get...
And that carebear card just sucks... Full loot is far from hardcore, especially when it is easy to get, like people telling that they harvest for hour or few and get some nice equipment...
I'm sorry but I stopped reading after that line. Did you seriously just compared UO to DF? 10 years ago, UO was 100 times the game Darkfall is and FFA PvP was just a small part of the reason why.
lol yet here the op is going on and on. Get over yourself. Your not the best nor the worst player. DarkFall is not the best MMO not the worst. DarkFall does not have ANYTHING new to it..
Again a so called real player posting here.. huh? why not post there on Darkfall and let them know how much you care. Look how the kettles calling black. You like the game great go play it. Its not a hardcore pvp game. I

Yes- please don't drag us old skool UO vets into this. I will never be desparate enough to play Darkfall. It may have some old-timey flavor, but it's shallow and run by folks who treat customers like shit heels. No thanks. I'll wait for Earthrise or Mortal Online and stick with my FPS games in the mean time, same as I've been doing for years.
Hope you got your things together. Hope you are quite prepared to die. Looks like we're in for nasty weather. ... There's a bad moon on the rise.
What would you consider a hardcore game then?
I play the game with my old guild from atlantic along with tons of others from old school UO. Nothing will ever compare to UO but this is the best or the closest any game has come so far.
You sir fail. You apparently aren't trying to stop attempting to get people to understand by starting this useless piece of garbage thread. You, by starting this thread, just tried to make more people understand by posting all the pre-trammel UO talk. Like previous posters said don't go bringing UO into DFO convos the 2 are far from each other. So stop trying to get people to understand by stfu and not making threads saying you are going to stop, and with in that thread try to make people understand
{mod edit}
Get over myself? Not sure why that comment was justified.
I'm simply trying to say that there are a lot of us that love this game. No, it's obviously not the best MMO ever created but it's certainly the best on the market right now TO US.
The entire point of this thread was to address the same types of people that are bashing me right now. I know that you don't like it and I know why you don't like it, if I came into gaming at a different time I would probably be bashing the game just like some of you are right now.
That's the point, both sides are right in there own way. Yes, compared to the triple AAA mmo's right now with all the great features don't amount to the free for all pvp, politics, full loot for some of us. None of those features can hold a candle to what we want from a game.
Why is that so difficult for some of you to understand?

I wasn't speaking on behalf of you. I'm speaking on behalf of all the old school UO guilds playing the game right now. Go take a look at the political map, you'll see tons of guilds from old UO.
I don't see AT ALL the relation between pre-trammel UO and this joke of a game, seriously. I'm an UO diehard, i played Europa for years, and now play on free shards here and then. As for darkfall, seeing my bro play was enough to make me laff at him for the whole evening we spent together. I mean, seriously, seeing two half-naked beastmen (my bro with a maul, the other guy with a kind of 3 headed spear) fighting basically by just running around each other to land only one blow from time to time without any kind of skill or fluff made me feel like :
This thing really looked a total broken severance with 25 years old graphics (i mean Mount and Blade looks neat compared to that), animations looked like the guys had no fkin coordination between their upper & lower body, and there was 0 strategy in that fight, just running here and there to be close to the guy when u press "bonk".
U compare that to UO, tell me where are :
1) The total different gameplay that people chose ? (beast taming ? Dragons ?? Provoke skill ??)
2) The diff strategy to use when you fight ? (provoke mobs on the dude, go with ur axe + lumber + poison and kick his ass corp por outta him) ???? Cuz right now it seems like a totally broken FPS where u gots to chose between uhooo magic wand (wizz), a bow (yay) and melee weapons (ftl).
3) I'm sorry ? Player housing with shops everywhere u want ? not the same crappy looking buildings everywhere ?
4) Unique items for decoration ?
5) POKER ?
6) Interresting community ????
Really, i got a question :
U die hard people are the same kind of dudes who would eat everyday at McDonalds and swear to God that it's healthy food, right ?
You're a Hardcore Survivor!
You not only survived the zombie apocalypse, but did it with style! Your mastery of zombie knowledge, survival tactics, and weaponry is nearly unmatched. Congratulations, for you are hardcore!

The only thing that is like UO is the rule set. Game play etc are completely different.
But
That doesn't change the fact that is all UO players have been begging for since trammel. That's all most ever wanted was the same rule set in a different game.
If WoW had the same rule set as UO, with player housing, same crafting as old school UO it would be an awesome game.
"If WoW had the same rule set as UO, with player housing, same crafting as old school UO it would be an awesome game. "
Wouldn't that make it UO?
Might just be me...
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
They can rebuild it you know.....................
....................we have the technology !!!!!!
Iiii-iiiiiit's.... me!!! *Hooray*
Depends on what they mean I guess. They did say ruleset which is different than saying skill based etc
Rule-set of pre-trammel UO was basicly walk outside town get ganked.. looted and cut into many pieces. Not that I was there or anything.. (first couple years of UO was my favorite MMO experience so don't get me wrong and I wasn't pk tho you pretty much either learned to defend yourself or quit).
So it would either be wow with open pvp and full looting (aka the same rule set)
Or it would be UO with WoW graphics... (if they meant skill system and all..)
/shrug
This is where you are wrong and it is so obvious that you have no idea what you are talking about. You and your Everquest avatar.... /eyeroll
Everquest has the SAME rule set as every other game, therefore it really doesn't matter if you are a fan of EQ, AoC, AO, WAR or whatever the hell there is out there. All those MMORPGs are THE SAME. There is nothing to differentiate your passion of each of those except the theme and graphics. There is a big difference when you can feel passionate about something AFTER trying something else totally different. We have tried your garbage games, but most of you never tried UO pre-trammel so that's where your arguments and "rationality" fails.
Darkfall is dramatically different than other games, that's why people who make ridiculous comments like you stick out like sore thumbs. It is flat out obvious that you never played Ultima Online pre-trammel and you are absolutely oblivious to the experience that we are talking about. You cannot compare watered down games like SWG and Eve to UO pre-trammel.
Sadly however, Darkfall left me greatly dissapointed. After 9 years of waiting, the long wait does not justify the current state of the game and lack of key things within it such as custom housing ect and horrenous PvP.. This is nothing but a Shadowbane part 2 and a VERY watered down version of what a spiritual successor of UO should look like in 2009.
Mortal Online looks VERY promising and I admit, I haven't been following it as closely as I should, but after watching the latest trailer I am very impressed. Hopefully it will be everything that Darkfall was not, I am still not happy with some of MOs features but it looks like it's going to smash DF.

After 9 years you would think they could have turned the coal into diamonds. Seriously what was you expecting. "Might as well stop trying to get people to understand" guess that can go both ways.

I actually agree with what you are saying for the most part, except the idea that you need to play UO "pre-trammel" to get excited about a different type of game. Even more disappointing than the key features that missed out and the execution of certain things in Darkfall to me was the community. The sense of superiority that Darkfall fans had because they were PVP video game veterans and the way they treated others for being otherwise. Anyway I hope the MO playerbase won't put up with this crap. Last thing is, all of you wanna be hard arse PVP video gamers neglect is Darkfall had alot more going for it than just PVP,(when I say alot I also mean more than a better executed city building feature aswell) atleast the concept did.
you're so incredibly [blank] (scared that mod would edit my post so I didn't insult you directly)
60+% of the people here loved the features AV promised, its not the ideas and theory behind DF we're complaining about, we're complaing about its HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE implimentation of those promises.

No, it isnt.
In UO there were consequences for PKing , being tagged as a murderer , spending your life red.
In darkfall PKs never, ever go red.
They farm afkers at bindstones to get 100 positive faction, with no risk, so they can then same race PK without consequence, only to go back to farming afkers for more positive faction.
UO's alignment system had its issues, and exploits, but that system in Darkfall is by design.
Its easy mode, nothing like UO at all.
I totally agree with you Most people just don't understand that games which don't have premade content are awesome to play^^
