I started my career as a heavy mmorpger back at 1996 when i first installed in my system a game named ''The Realm''.
It was a hefty 32 mb !!! client that kept me for almost two years in front of my monitor almost exclusively .
Later on there was that unforgettable trip from Qeynos to Freeport in a strange game called Evequest...
You felt like you were just thrown in that world and you only had to survive ...........
There was no ingame map , very few spots to bind , a vast unfriendly environment that everything seemed dark ......
At first I said there is no way i would put myself in such punishment ........
I was so wrong .........
Six years passed , till i finally forced to move forward to those plastic safe and sterilized environments of today's mmorpgs .
Am i romantic , i dont know , all i know is that i want to thank Adventurine in public , for the chance to feel the same as then........
It maybe gona last long or very short i dont know ........ but i really want to thank you guys..........

I'm with you bro. I played Asherons Call 1 and Everquest 1 the day they came out. Ever since those games I felt as though the genre just became to cookie cutter. I'm a fan of real pen and paper D&D and Warhammer Fantasy roleplay and to be honest zone's, instances, chasing gear off some computer controlled opponent in raids week in and week out doesnt do it for me. I quit and moved on to RTS games. Now I'm back and Darkall has really hit that sense of overwhelming exploration once again. Is the game perfect? no, but in time it will be and I'm glad my guild and I will be along for the ride.
Don't worry about the trolls they just have nothing better to do when there computer says "loading please wait" between instances and zones.. Remember this phrase? "TRAIN!" ah the 90's..

You need to get out more. You also need to show me where you signed up to get paid by AV to post this.
I envy you OP. I went into Darkfall hoping for the experience that you are having. Instead I found an unfinished, horribly boring game with so many problems that my brain would not let me look past.
In my opinion the big difference between Darkfall and Everquest is that EQ is very immersive. I felt like I was "in" the world of EQ. Darkfall, for me, had no imersive feeling.
I personally feel that comparing Darkfall to Everquest is doing a disservice to Everquest.

Amazing what goes for nostalgia these days. I hated all that stuff in EQ.
However, I don't think any game I will ever play again will give me that feeling that I got when my first character (a woodelf) first appeared in the tree city in Kelethin forest.
The 90's? EQ came out dawn of the 21st century. It couldn't have given you THAT many memories of your 90's, and if it did, you must've been a really boring person. =p

You don't need to envy him, just play the game a bit more get used to control and you will love it sooner or later... problem, is just that many people are not ready to put some learning curve into the game
But I agree with OP, I am having a blast and love the game... can't wait to see whats coming up, once they get their release together
BTW I also havent had any problems in the game, no crash as of yet, and very few bugs, most got already fixed.

are you sure you've even played the game? darkfall's world is more immersive than WOW+WAR+AoC put together. by "immersive", i mean "feels real". WOW/WAR/AoC's static, evenly-spaced mobs spread over every inch of the map, and which auto-attack until dead, are the exact opposite of immersive as far as i'm concerned.
Everquest 1 came out March of 1999. Wow I'm old lol. sorry..

Feels real ? Oh gods I need to see reality through your rose tinted fanbase glasses. Nurse double my medicaton !
Really it just look like a POS. Which be forgiveable if the world had some dynamism like a god honest movement of goods and economy. Instead its a tiny fraction of the website (not updated yet eh ?) which devolves into run round and hit people with your LMB. Sorry but DF is about as immersive as the bucket googles on yer head for mid 1990s 3D environments. i.e. its not.
Comparing DF to any decent MMO is a joke, let alone against anything proper sandboxy like Eve. What did they do for 8 plus years. Well it was not a billing system either !
.. and while I am at it....
Why do the fans keep talking about large spacing of mobs... like it took AV X amount of YEARS to achieve this ? All it means you you have to walk for ages to have your special "sea monsertz" (not a spawn) encounter. Crap even EVE is PVP based and it has more "rats". Sorry this is getting silly again. From now on I am going to make whirring nosies whenever something outlandish is stated.
Anyways we all know the lack of NPC and AI is because there 486SX (no math co processor) cannot deal the load.
lol

The Realm was my first MMORPG too. :-) I did get into it late though and didnt play very long. I liked it a lot though and see how people can hate switching to the newer mmos after playing it for so long.

immersive implies realism, and darkfall is more believeable as a world than WOW/WAR/AoC. the fact you're too carebear or unskilled to play it doesn't make it less immersive.

Whenever someone has a negative comment about Darkfall, you attack their grammar. Instead of focusing on someone's English skills, maybe try to counter their points with points of your own, if there are any.
Anyway, please state how the world is immersive. From the videos I have seen and from what I have read, there is no immersion at all.
don't use words you don't know the meaning of. IMO focus on your spelling skills to stop embarrassing yourself.
quite frankly anyone who doesn't know the difference between simple words like "you're" and "your", is stupid.
full-scene shadows. wind through trees, bushes, grass. spectacular sunrises & sunsets. believeable & interesting terrain formations. logical graduations in geography across the world. sensible mob placement. challenging AI. seamless/zoneless world. omnipresent sense of danger. clean UI, free of player radar and nameplates.
Nostalgia is a very poweful emotion that often distorts reality. Had the OP played Everquest as he described it in today's MMO environment, he'd think it was a pile of crap, which is is by today's standards. He remembers the feelings he had with the game when it was the cutting edge, but the edge had moved and so has a lot of people's standards. I don't blame him. I feel the same thing every once in a while. I may get an urge to play some old Nintendo game or watch some old movie or TV show I saw as a kid, and when I do I realize how awful it is when compared to things being presented today.
Vagueness + subjectivity = this list. You can pretty much describe any MMO this way and you wouldn't be wrong. Let's try it with WoW, shall we?
1.full-scene shadows? Made up term, but yeah WoW has shadows.
2. Wind through trees, etc.? Well, it's not wind. Leaves and vegetation randomly move on a pre-set manner mean to imitate wind, but yeah WoW has this also.
3. Spectacular sunrises and sunsets? Spectacular isn't a quantitive or descriptive statement, but an adjective, but yeah WoW has sunrises and sunsets and many do think they are "spectacular."
4. believable and interesting terrain formations? believable and interesting are a contradiction. Terrain formations that are interesting are often not believable, and terrain formations that are believable are often not interesting, but yeah WoW has its share of fantastical and boring terrains.
5. logical graduations is the same thing as believable terrain formations. You wouldn't be sneaking a redundant feature for filler, now would you?
6. Sensible mob placement? Yes, WoW has this. Mob types fit the environment and humanoid enemies usually hang out in groups and camps.
7. Challenging AI? Well, what makes DF's AI challenging is that it's broken, but WoW has this also since mobs will run away when beaten and bosses require teammwork and strategy.
8. Seamless world? Yep, loading screens are a rarity in WoW.
9. Omnipresent sense of danger? Does God in DF decide to randomly kill players? I think you used that word wrong, but I get what you're saying, and yes, WoW, and every MMO where you can be PKed, has this.
10. Clean UI? How can an UI be clean? Is there a Windex mode? This very ambiguious language meant to detract from the fact DF's UI is archaic and ugly, but WoW's UI is just as ambiguously clean...whatever that means.
11. Free of player radar and nameplates? Yep, you can disable those in WoW.
Well, there you go. You just described WoW. Try it with another MMO and results will be the same. When you're forced to use intentionally vague language to describe something, that something can be anything. Yay!
^^^ anyone else find this post really funny? funny like a crazy person eating a dog turd and calling it the best hot dog he's ever eaten would be funny.
