Seeing that the game is starting in Development can we get a forum for it?

and if anyone here has read the Books and is intresting in posting some ideas for what sould be included in the game feel free to post them here until they give us a TWOT forum.

my ideas that i would love to see put in to the game are as follows.

1. A big seamless world (No zones)

This will include all the land of Jordan’s world, everything, you can lock the areas so only with an expansion pack will they be accessible (World of Dreams, Seanchan, Shara, Isles of the Sea Folk). I like freedom, even if I will just get killed, so don’t level lock areas.

youtube video showing an MMORPG that had a world like I am talking about (Dark and Light).

2. Building of Forts & houses. (must be like Dark and Light, where you really Build the Fort where you want, and how you want. NONE of the crap fort building like in Age of Conan. Where you have to build a wall where it tells you to build one. Again Freedom to build how you want, where you want. There can be pre-made structures for those less inclined to build their own, but may cost more than self-designed structures.

3. Skill based leveling would be very cool for “The Wheel of Time” The focus would be on improving the skills on your character not just grinding XP and cash or Raiding for Epic Loot. If you character is powerful then he is powerful buck naked. Some of these games are strictly Item based, if you put that gear on any toon it would instantly become just as powerful as any other toon out there. I don’t want the game to be gear dependant. Rand, Matt and Perrin were just as powerful with or without their identified weapons.

4. Skill based combat. Having to Aim to shoot a bow or arrow is a very cool idea to add in an FPS type setup. Magical attributes or abilities can grant heat seeking or auto targeting or even explosive or acidic damage.

5. Do not let just anyone start as a Power Wielder (magic user) do it like a Jedi was in Star Wars Galaxy back when you had to work to allow them to start a Jedi then had to quest up a new character. but let everyone have the chance to become one if they work hard. The bonus is a great toon, but everyone is after you. Also, make it where the Male has to keep his abilities hidden, or the White Tower will send Red Ajah after them (to Gentle them) like a bounty hunter quest in SWG, this will bring in player driven content. It will also cut back on the caster classes by making it to hard to survive as one.

Also it would be cool to have a random (wilder (magic user)) lets say every 300 or 400 characters made you get a wilder.

6. Crafting, my idea on Crafting is don’t make a wide variety of in game weapons, force the characters to focus on crafting to supply the economy, especially after players start conquering countries.

If you make an in-game 3d-modeling engine for crafters to let them modify the base 3d-model as to what their weapons look like not just the stats on them. I would craft more if I could put my own look to a weapon and my own stamp on the blade (a texture) have it where the higher level your skills are the more you can change the default model, kind of like the face customization. (More freedom = more hard core players. We will love the game and keep playing it)

7. PVP, this must be incorporated into the game from the start. (Good Vs Evil Vs other) Realm Vs Realm.

( I love looting other players but I understand why many times a game developer will remove this, because the game is overloaded with people crying about how this sucks. And the squeaky wheel gets the oil.)

8. DO not ever take away or decreases the skills of a class of player. (NO nurfing)

Start with a Low Level Cap then slowly raise the level cap and as you do increase the power of other classes. To balance the game. (now if there is a Bug in the skills or something fix it.)

9. People do not like playing a game if they have to be just like everyone else… We all want to be a super hero (or villain), please let us be. (if someone wants to put the time in playing to become vary powerful let them this make everyone want to play more to become like or better then the one on the top. And the fact that someone can get to the top makes everyone want to play.)

10. Let us build our own system of government (or take over some of the NPC ruled countries) and rebuild it into our own, Ala Eve Online. Just make the Culture of the conquered kingdom remain (influence clothing and weapon types of the natives (NPCs).

If anyone else wants to add more ideas to this please do. i have a lot more ideas i have not put down about how to do the do the weaving of the flows of power.

You start of with lets say an simple “Fire ball” (magic missile) when you start learning this spell you have to weave the flows of (fire) (air) and (spirit) you also have to aim at your target as you are doing this. When you have mastered the simple spell “fire ball” you only have to click on the hot key “fire ball”.

As you learn more advanced weaves you can add a auto targeting (heat seeking) weave to the fire ball so it will track the person you are targeting. By weaving some (spirit) and (water). Then adding the “Fire ball” by clicking on “fire ball” Hot key.

Soon you will master this spell and get a Hot key for “seeking” then you can click on the hot key for “seeking” and then the hot key for “fire ball” or if you are good with a Bow click to shoot a seeking arrow.

These are the requirments for a game to be listed/have a forum here, from the FAQ.

    Does it meet our requirements?

Make sure that the game isn't already on our list. We know that this sounds simple, but there are a lot fo them and sometimes they get overlooked.

The game must be based entirely inside of a graphical world. 3D, 2D and 2.5D games are all welcome on our list, but unfortunately we are unable at this time to provide listing for text-based MUDs.

The game should have the capability to support at least 500 congruent users on a single server. This is not a reflection of the game's current subscriber count, but rather reflects the capabilities of a game's technology.

The game must include some form of graphical common area where players can interact with one another inside of the persistent game world. This excludes lobby and chat room based interaction.

The game must make use of persistent characters. This means that you should be able to log in after logging out and find your character as advanced as you left them (or more).

The game must contain some form of character advancement.

So, what do we need in order to list the game?

When submitting a game to MMORPG.com for review for our Game List, we require the following:

*A visual representation of the game, a transparent .psd of your game's logo, a textual overview of your game, *a professional website, name of publisher, name of developer, press contact information. It can also be helpful (but is not required) to provide us with a 1,000 word + developer journal introducing the MMORPG.com readers to your game. Just a general overview of what the game is about and some information about what you feel are the stand-out features of your game.

*A visual representation of the game

3-5 Screenshots: These screenshots must be in-engine, un-doctored screenshots. They must be representative of what a player would see when playing the game.

    or

A Gameplay video: The short video does not have to be gameplay only, but should contain a significant and obvious example of un-altered gameplay footage

    *Website Requirements

All games to be listed at MMORPG.com must have an active, professional website. The site must be completely free of pop-up ads and spyware.

In the case of an active or in-beta game, the site must also provide access to some kind of user support system including, but not limited to: developer active help / support forums, direct petition system or support contact email.

No pictures or videos  there, nothing to really show anything as far as development. aAnd I wouldn't count one page to constitute a "professional active website".

Anyway, the devs need to contact mmorpg.com if they want to try to be listed.

community@mmorpg.com   or  stradden@mmorpg.com  would be the best bets.

Most of these requests for a forum crack me up.   Earth to OP, there are literally thousands of MMO's in development.  Most never make it past the design phase, some self destruct during the beta, others wait for actual release to expose a disaster.

You have to have limits on what constitutes are legitimate MMO that should be recieve a precious forum.

Let's face it, the company doing the Wheel of Time MMO is a complete newbie at this genre.  Chances are not good for them getting past the development stage, let alone providing a quality MMO product.

It remains to be seen if this MMO will ever make it to the actual production phase considering the inexperience of the team making it.

Well Darkfall was listed for ages without any of those requirements being met?

Anyhow, WoT is falling under EA , so this is going to be pretty much a big name game [not an indie game]. I would be surprised if MMORPG.COM needs to be asked to add this, the site owners should in fact know about this game already.

I can only assume the guys here figured MMOs in the "announcement" phase does not yet qualify as being in "development". And i believe WoT is basically in "announcement" phase, same way Blizzard's next MMO is in that phase.

In fact, i don't even think there's an official name for the online WoT game yet [considering Red Eagle is making a whole range of WoT based games, the MMO is just one of it].

Take the advice of the Prez.  "I like to know what I'm talking about before I speak."

He gave good points on the subject.  Like your avatar, you are just a troll in need of a bridge; aside from the fact that your post has nothing to do with what he was talking about.

EA Games bought the WoT franchise, and plans to release, through EA Partners, a bunch of games, including an MMO.  As stated above, however, I think the mods want a little more before they allow a forum.  The decider would be a bunch of people talking about it and asking for it.  That is what got Darkfall on the list.

I would hope that they have the CoX costumes, expect this would be what you wear to battle it could be your nations color etc.  Kingdom building I think definitely needs to be added, but it needs to be limited to guilds.  Also, I hope there is more group content than solo content.

What got Darkfall on the list was at the time it was added, it was under Razorwax and had screenshots and met other requirements for listing.

That's one flaw with this site. Once you get your game listed, getting them to remove it is a pain in the ass. There are games listed here that folded long ago, never even seen the first light of alpha testing. There are also games still listed that folded for being scams/ripoffs ( Dark and Light, for example ).

The only games I've seen them add by popular demand were Guild Wars ( debateable as an mmorpg ), Hellgate: London ( most definitely not an mmorpg ), and Mythos ( as much of an mmorpg as Diablo, and they don't allow Diablo because it's not an mmorpg by their definition ).

As you can see, the requirements for getting a game listed here are pretty much at mmorpg.coms discretion, regardless of what they state the requirements are.

sounds almost exactly like Darkfall... also, please for the love of God do not do it like Jedi in SWG. I thought that was publically regarded as one of the worst game mechanics in the history of MMOs.

  • DeadDOGDeadDOG Member UncommonPosts: 191

the way this works is there is not set class for a caster, a caster can do everything anyone else can.

so best to make it hard to become a caster. or a down side starting as a caster. (locked (in-service) to the Tower.

and make it where if someone starts as a regular player that they have a Chance to be something thats more powerful then if they had started as a caster.

that way everyone has a chance to become one and the most desired class will be a wilder, wolf brother, or some other type of tavern (super human class).

(So more people will start normal classes for a chance at the most powerful and for the freedom of a normal class)

where if you are become a wilder you freedom will be in running or hiding from being found out and forced to be (In-service).

no one starts as a wilder but they might become a wilder and may not ever find out they can cast until something happens (a need chance spell or they start seeing the weave of someone casting.) so you will have some people that can cast but may not know this until they have played for a wile.

Example 1: a crafter that is out mining and see some the Tower (white T for woman/ black T for men) casting fire balls or weaving flows of air to trap or kill someone. and he sees the weaves and learns a spell. (This is the 1st time the player ever found out he was a wilder) and now sneeks away from the action because everyone know the Tower will come for someone and take them away that can channel.

Example 2: a Dark friend that found out he can cast has learned a few spells and is now attacking low less skilled players. A player is in the area and the dark friend is casting fire balls at his friends he can see the weaves (and now knows he is a channler and learns the idea of casting a fire ball (spell). Yet he has not mastered it and will have to weave it over and over many times to master the spell (get a Hot key) he can start casting it but must weave it each time he does until he masters this fire ball.

    *Cough* Blizzard *Cough*

I believe their first MMO now has a higher suscriber count than any other MMO.

Just because they are new doesn't mean Suck (okay well most of the time it does).

The story and background will not have to be developed as it was fleshed out magnificiantly by the series author.

The models will need to be created then mechanics need to be developed.  The engine will need to be created or licensed if an engine that is capable exists (Big World Tech or the like).

Adapted content from the books should fill in the quest log, just variations.

Maybe make it where people can start as a channeler but are tied and stuck in the service of the (White Tower), (Black Tower) or (Dark One). this service is vary long and you have not chance to explore the out side world until you have reached a level they feel you are able to serve them best. Then you will be able to join in a group quest to explore the out side world.

Lets say if you start as a channeler you will only have a natural power max of 1-10. (items can improve you power max.) if you happen to become a wilder there power max will be 5-15. Seeing wilders can be more powerful. (this will make people want to make a regular player. For freedom and for a chance are being a more powerful player)

Where if you make a regular character you have a chance to become a wilder.

this chance happens many time so you never know when or if you will become a wilder.

You also could become a wolf brother or a tavern of some other type. (this will be anther random chance that only happens at an encounter.

If you roll a toon and later you find out that you can channel then you can try to hide from either the Black tower for males or White tower for Females, or Shaol Ghul for the Dark one, you must run from and continually avoid those factions.

else  If you use you abilities in front of NPC's (or a member of one of the factions) too much or too blatlently then you will be reported and those organizations will begin searching for you. (a type of bounty hunting)

If you kill some of their search parties then the search turns more into a search and destroy.  If they capture you then they will either Remove your ability to channel or forcably enlist you into that organization

(where you must complete their training (massive quest series) and become a servant of the faction that takes you (unless male and the white tower takes you, and you will always be tied to them and they can suck you back into other quest series at their whim. (like hunting for wilders) (you will always be tied to them.)

*If you have you ability to channel removed (Stilled or Gentled) you can be reconnected with your ability, later in the game, with the Aid of the opposite gender (for complete restoration) or the same gender (for partial restoration) (this can be added at a later Expansion)

Instead of talking about features of the game that have nothing to do with the IP, why don't you talk about features that relate to it.

For instance, what will the player factions be (assuming you want PVP).

    Starting factions could be:

    • Aes Sedai (hostile only to Shadow, cannot attack humans unless attacked first);
    • Children of the Light (hostile to pretty much everybody, prime driving force is to hunt down DFs);
    • Andorian and/or other "ordinary" humans. (more or less neutral, you could choose as a start up option whether your character was naturally able to channel or not...but you'd start out with untrained ability)

Everyone would have the option to secretly turn to the dark side and become a DF in disguise

Trollocs and Myrdaal etc. would be purely NPCs, or could be open to "Monster Play" ala LoTRO

    Expansion factions could include:

    • Aiel
    • Seanchean

What about game mechanics like healing?  This was prevalent in the series, but would you have typical in-combat healing like the Tank/Spank/Heal formula for most MMOs?

    ____________________________________________
im to lazy too use grammar or punctuation good

  • DeadDOGDeadDOG Member UncommonPosts: 191

    Factions:

    Tinkers

    Sea Folk

    Children of the Light

Each Nation (there are several, with sub factions for the Houses or Lord/Ladies)

White Tower (each Ajah, including Black)

Black Tower (Dragon Loyal and Hidden Dark elements in the Black Tower)

Dark One (A Faction to each of the Forsaken, Shadar Haran, and Mordeth)

Shadar Logoth (under the leadership of Padan Fain)

Seanchan (Sub faction for each Major Lord/Lady)

Aiel (Dragon Sworn and Breakaway "agnostic" tribes, and Anti-Dragon tribes)

Shara (not much known about them yet, so they will obviously be a future expansion)

I don't want this game to be Everquest with stolen names from WoT.  I want it to have a different feel and style.  Thats why I am focusing on mechanics.  The rest can be easily drown form the books.
