NNo retail copy :(

Jadey26Jadey26 Member Posts: 7

hi all

just a view towards this game the devs havent thought this thru have they.

no retail sales <no box copys> this is odd because as all mmo games numbers in game makes or breaks ur game retail copys will realy help make darkfall bigger 60% players will be not intrested because of this 9gig download and pay 40 uroes for a game that you get no book or disc to speak off.

this says to me the team that make this game are not experienced to know this this game will suffer for this majour error in sales reserch and advertisement would had made it more popular

I think for an independent effort like this... Download is the best choice.

I suspect it was difficult for them to convince a publisher  take a chance with their game.

Besides... from what I hear, even if you could buy a hard copy of the game that would not guarantee that you would be able to create an account and get in the game.

Currently it appears thier problem is not due to lack of sales, but rather the inability to deal with the sales they do have.

I would say more like "claim to have"

If the sales demand was so great then they could easily get funding to start a second "server" froms sales alone which would make the company much more attractive to potential investors.

Nope, its their inability to handle large loads of players. They've stopped online sales to control the number of players.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Such a joke of a game doesnt deserve to be boxed. All the devs said during the last 8 years were lies except for open pvp and player cities.

They also had to (hahaha!) eliminate mobs from the server to make room for players. Lol.

I disagree.    With the current state of the world economy, I seriously doubt that many banks or investors would be willing to lend money to a MMORPG developer who has been working on their game for 8 years.   Especially in light of the many failures (Earth and Beyond, DnL, Auto Assault and more recently Tabula Rasa).    This game is PvP full loot, the antithesis of World of Warcraft.   How many PvP full loot games out there are financially viable?     EvE is the only one I can think of.

Also, I'm not suggesting they are getting huge amount of sales... I'm suggesting that perhaps they can't handle the sales they are getting (hardware/client limitiations).

With all these things going against it, try to convince a publisher to print up boxed sets and attempt to distribute this product  which is by most accounts a niche game.

The developers behind Darkfall have been trying to convince a publisher to do business with them for the best part of a decade.

The troll haters claim its because the game is not worth publishing, the supporters claim its because the game is an indy niece title, but of course many Indy niece titles have got mainstream publishers before and will continue to do so when they produce quality titles.

Aventurine was originally officially announced as being Darkfalls publisher in 2003, but for the last 6 years they have claimed they have been considering offers but have rejected them for various reasons (that sound like BS to me) and have always maintained they have the capacity to self publish.

Last year they announced a publishing deal with a Greek DvD distributor for the "launch within 2008" company commitment, obviously that has not gone to plan, nor has their attempts at self publishing either.

I personally have always thought this game would never get a publishing or distribution deal with any mainstream international publisher nor will it ever appear boxed on shelves anywhere other then perhaps Greece, but even that seems unlikely at the moment.

I also don't think there will ever be a US launch or many more servers then a few for a long time if ever, and I think there's a very good chance there will always only be one server indefinitely because it will probably cater adequately their likely number of long term subscribers.

All of the above is only the worthless irrelevant wall of text whining saying nothing of importance of a pathetic no life troll hater so ignore it and buy this awesome best game ever as soon as possible.

I thought you were about to break into a Macbeth quote there... "a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing".
