I have to agree with this site's recent review on this game. I first played EVE not long after it was released some time ago and for me it was a very interesting game, but in the long run it was not something for me. On the other hand, the musical score is one of the most beautiful examples of ambient music I have ever had the privelege of witnessing with my ears.
Whoever this Jon Hallur is he needs to produce more music. I still listen to his music every single day since the release of this game. I used a stuff extractor to remove the music from the game and play the .ogg files in my media player. I was using iTunes and it stated I played "I Saw Your Ship" over 1500 times in the past few months.
The depth and breadth of this score is just simply amazing in comparison to any other videogame, movie, or music cd out there.
There is no possible way I can recommend this game for its music any higher than a status of a live changing experience. It has gotten to the point that I downloaded the stuff extractor and am trying to keep it safe just in case the websites that have it dont go down forever and I cannot access the sweet sweet music from the cd. Quite simply, I will listen to this music for the rest of my life; it is that good.

Agreed, westonc. I can honestly say I would not have enjoyed EVE quite as much as I did had it not been for the music (ergo my high praise in the review). Not only is Hallur's score a fantastic work, it is a perfect fit for EVE. I don't see this music evoking quite the same response from me if it were playing behind Ragnarok Online or Dark Age of Camelot.
I would urge anyone to check out Hallur's work a the EVE Online website. Some of his songs are available for download there.
And BTW, Nouvelle Rouvenor Hero is my favorite in-game tune

Koltrane, since you are a mmorpg staff member. How do certain threads get locked? Because I would like to see the "WARNING DON"T BUY EVE" thread locked. Not based just on my opinion (LOL) but I've seen several requests within the 10+ page thread asking for it to be locked. One reason is because the thread has gone off in different directions, but still the heading show "DO NOT BUY". Second because the thread was based on opinion from over a year ago.
Threads generally get locked if they violate the Rules of Conduct or if the thread is completely out of place (e.g. a thread about the presidential election posted in the Shadowbane forum). If someone is posting his disapproval of EVE, he has a right to his opinion. The thread may have gone far afield of the original intent, but merely because it is old or negative toward the game in question is not sufficient to lock it.
Regardless, I will review the thread to see if it merits locking.
