Let me just sum it all up for you people out there who contintue to cry that everyone who posts negative things about Darkfall haven't even played the game and they're simply "trolls".

I've played this game and it SUCKS.

First of all, lets use our suspension of disbelief and pretend that AV didn't totally fail with the release aspect of this game including customer service, billing, bugs, exploits, etc. and try to focus on the game itself.

Now, with all that aside, the game itself is nothing more than a contentless, macro-fest with so little depth it's laughable. The graphics are average at best and just might be better than some of the better F2P games on the market.  There's absolutely NO storyline, lore, etc. The UI is clunky and to put it nicely, poorly thought out. The combat itself is one dimensional and the ONLY thing it has going for it is fps type aim on arrows and magic which unfortunately isn't enough to make this game worth playing, AT ALL. Want to be a crafter? Better learn how to macro and macro often. Economy? Well, there is none because the game is fundamentally broken by the ability to macro everything because of piss poor game design. The world is empty and the AI that they raved about is probably one of the most annoying things in the game. Aside from the fact that the mobs are totally glitched out they're definition of revolutionary AI is having a monster fight until it's about half dead and then run around randomly and might I add spastically and then randomly stop and fight again and it repeats this process.

Anyone who has been trying desparately to get a copy I urge you to STOP and THINK because it's not worth it. Trust me I've been there and it's really not. Just think of your "misfortune" of being blocked out of their terrible excuse for a billing server as a blessing and a savings of $50. If anyone wants to dispute this go ahead but I guarantee you I will have more people on my side than you and rightly so. Darkfall is a joke along with the amateurs who made it.

Thank you for registering the perhaps 100th "evade account" to tell us this.

I will state that your opinion is 100% wrong and the game contains more promised features than 90% of the games released nowadays, and it succeeds at what it was ment to be, a complete player driven world

It's a game not made for everyone, and there are many people who are enjoying it as I do.  You have your right to your opinion but to tell people not to buy a game based off of your experience is simply idiotic.  I urge people to try the game if they want to, it is a great start to a game that could last a long time.  If you enjoy intense pvp it's enjoyable.  As for what you say about the geaphics you must be running on a minimum spec computer, the graphics are amazing and the best part is that they are dirty, griity... not that cartoon BS.

Intense pvp with absolutely no content to back it up. FUN!

But ill agree, im sure there are people out there that like it, but saying that it's great because of the intense pvp shouldn't be enough for someone to waste $50 on it. Come up with a real argument and ill take you seriously.

This game is not played by content made by devs, it has basic quests that teach you how to fight, craft and harvest...some quests to make money and build/craft cities...the rest is player politics and conquest....

You do whatever you want, emphasis is YOU NOT THE DEVELOPER.

LOTRO is dev driven, you do what they tell you its supposed to happen, not anything different. If the server in DF decides to obliterate an entire clan of players (say Murder Herd) then the players and the city will be wiped out in 1 day. History right there for the server. Player driven content - you the player made the decision when their town turned to ashes...everyone on the server remembers this

    Thats what DF is

DF is not the second time you ran this lore-driven instanced raid that killed the queen of the allmighty goblin

When will people comprehend a simple concept such as this? Is it somekind of mental barrier Everquest and Blizzard's World of Warcraft made in your head that tells you their lore is the important one?

Does EVE have lore? if it does its not more than DFs, but do you see people bitching and complaining about EVE lore?

    Make your own LOL

I bought the game based off the pvp I was expecting and play it pretty much soley for the pvp.  It is a valid arguement and I feel the rest of the game is nicely centered around pvp.  Now I'll admit large scale pvp isn't good yet, same wirth seiges.  But for the most part it is a game made for people who can make their own content.  Never in a game have a spent hours lurking just to possibly get that one good kill... never has a game brough such fear, joy and overall sense of accomplishment.  Yes there are cheaters and people who macro but there are a few like myself that just play the game.  If you choose to macro then yes, I feel sorry for you because you are missing out on what the game was meant to be.

I love how in darkfall it could take me anywhere between 30 seconds to a whole day to obtain literally anything, I love how when I log in I have no bounderies saying "you can't go there", or "you can't do that yet".  Hell within the first ten minutes of my human character I stole two mounts off a guild.  Darkfall is a game where it is what you make it, and honestly it's a game you really should play with friends because it just makes it so much better.  Solo pvp is fun, and exciting... but when you get a group of 4-5 guys going in vent just talking and having a good time swaping Darkfall stories it just shines.

Like I said before, the game isn't for you.  Cool, I hope you find something that is.  Just don't be so negative about the game and respect those of us who do enjoy the experience.

I did just logof. I had to, my heart almost exploded in my chest. We were doing some PvE in a old ruin and six alfars come charging on dragons down from a hill.....and in two minutes we were all ganked.

Damn i want to be that Alfar now.

Ohh, Darkfall is not for everyone. There is tons of lore in the world, but you need to find it. Just as in rl. The player gets nothing for free in Darkfall. So to whine about it only make people belive you cant do anything by yourself. That you need the game to tell you what to do. And that is something you dont want to hear!

Thank you Bainwalker, that's the best argument i've heard someone make for Darkfall's case. You've got a point. However, you saying it's not for me doesn't mean a lot of these problems don't exist. Ok, i'll admit, you've made a great argument against the need for any content as far as lore, quests, etc. Hlowever, beyond that. The harvesting/crafting is still simplified, click wait click wait and way to easy to macro. The skills are way to easy to macro and that's unacceptable. Im glad to hear that you're having fun just "playing the game." But when someone with maxed out macroed skills comes up to you and pwns your ass and that becomes a trend don't start crying about it.

Additionally, the combat animations are boring, graphics are (better than I described above) but not great and the combat isn't really that deep or innovative other than the fact that OOOO! it's an MMO and there's no auto-aim. Please, if that's enough for you to say something is great then I say to you, I hope you start to reevaluate your standards for a game and the company making it because this game could have been A LOT better than it is or probably ever will be. And I say all of this because I truely think that AV dropped the ball and made a watered down, shell of a game and shouldn't be rewarded for it. Let's only hope that other developers don't get the idea that they can get lazy on game design and deliver half-ass products and people will still buy it. But keep discussing because im open to you refuting more of what im saying it it makes sense.

Really, I can see you played solo just by reading this. If someone does this you wont experience 90% of the game because you will simply get your ass kicked all the time.

Have you built a city, sieged, built a boat and sailed around the world? killed a 50 man zerg with friends? thats DF

about combat: its easy to understand hard to master, just like AC's combat was, or counterstrike

Every noob can click, but shitloads of people can click and have a better timed shot than you and kill you - as in "skill based" combat.

  • whatamidoingwhatamidoing Member Posts: 163

I understand what you're saying, I do, but I still don't think the gamer delivered as promised.  To me it's just a clunky, watered down test version of a game that could have been a lot better. I guess it's really the only thing like it to recently be released and be on the market right now though so the standards just aren't there and there's not much basis for comparison. And the macroing is a huge issue which I see you don't seem to care about but it is like it or not and that is a very gamebreaking issue for me personally. So, thank you for the posts, I understand where you're coming from, but I still don't think the it's not my cup of tea argument is the real issue at work here as the game has serious flaws which may or may not be able to be corrected via patching. However, if you like it, good for you. pvp combat, sieging, etc. is only a part of a whole that a game should be and is definitely not enough to keep me playing, especially considering the state it's in in Darkfall. To say that it's great because of that only is disregarding a large percentage of the game which frankly just didn't make it into the final product, either because it was cut or is too unimportant and/or flawed to matter.

"...but to tell people not to buy a game based off of your experience is simply idiotic."

The SWG "Vets" do it all the time, all the while saying they are just trying to warn people of crappy gameplay. The OP is doing the same thing, but it happens to be the game you enjoy and so he becomes "idiotic".

Go Darkfall playerbase, way to win that one.

Well, you posted a negative account of DF, so that was pretty much the beginning of the end for you on here. If you're not praising DF as the best thing to ever happen to MMOs ever in the history of the world, and cite even the *slightest* criticism of it... you're a "troll" and "hater".

From that point on, how you're responded to becomes any of several options:

    1. You're a liar who hasn't and/or isn't playing the game

    2. This is an alt account and/or because your account is new, your opinion doesn't matter (because, you know.. people aren't capable of forming opinions unless they have 100+ posts... of course -roll eyes-)

    3. You're too much of a carebear to appreciate a sandbox/FFA PvP MMO. Go back to WoW.

    4. "Darkfall isn't for you"

    5. "All MMOs have issues at launch and besides DF launched with fewer issues than any other MMO out there" (love that one, personally)

    6. You're a troll and a hater and not worthy of DF

At that point, all they need to do is roll a die.

Looks like Einstein rolled a 2.

    Sup.

    Today, siege battle.

Got challenged, 100 or so enemy of an alliance near us, formed up with our 50-60 (clan and local allies and friends). Constant small group skirmishing, and scouting between our city and their hamlet, spies in eachothers clans feeding information back and forth, reports of more enemies inbound.

Attack towards their hamlet in the 4 hour period when they are vuln and we are invuln, in expendable gear. We keep running back and fighting (short distance between holdings) and keep the fight up for over an hour, lose loads but we have mail and leather and they have black knight/plate/scale/banded, each kill hurts them.

All the while our regional allies are forming up.

Regroup at our city, now outnumbered, 1hr before we go vuln. Gear up fully, move to position west of their hamlet, diversionary battle, slowly being pushed back, nearly overrun, allies eta 5mins, we have to not be wiped out and routed so our allies can take them by surprise in a pincer. Q some desperate melee battles, all of a sudden, as we look to be about to break the enemy turns around..

Our allies have taken their hamlet behind them, caught between 2 forces and outnumbered the enemy are (after a lag spike which soon calmed down)wiped out. Final stand occurs in a house, but they keep coming back for more (naked some of them, fix this pls) but many more running in geared as they attempt to break our lock on their hamlet. They fail to do so and after 1 hour their hamlet falls, although our side suffered heavy material losses.

This is why I like DF, it is rough around the edges, but stuff like this (and this was a very small engagement in comparison) is why it is fun. Spies, coordination between multiple groups who are manouvering on the battle field, skirmishing prior to the battle, forming rivalries etc etc.

The war against Hyperion will be epic.

This has been done in many other games, DF just does it on a smaller scale.

Careful OP, Fan's don't like when people point out the obvious.

Based on that entire account (which seems a bit out of left field in this thread)....

    - DF has mass PvP for sieges.

This is a staple and one of the core elements of Lineage 2 for years now.

The only difference so far is that I've seen and been in mass PvP with easily 200+ per side at times in L2. DF allegedly has this happen, but every video or screenshot shown demonstrating it to date has yet to back that claim up.

    1) DF has smaller-scale skirmishes before sieges, etc.

Again, not at all unlike L2 or any other PvP MMO I've played or followed. In Lineage 2, small skirmishes happen constantly and can (and do) easily explode into large-scale PvP over things like clan wars, raid bosses or control of an xp'ing spot. This is a "several times a day" thing in L2, especially among the more actively warred clans and alliances.

    2) DF has fighting over player built and/or controlled structures, giving PvP "meaning" (as much as can be given to pixels duking it out on screen that is)

2A:: Shadowbane has had this at the core of its gameplay for years, player-built cities are ripped to the ground.

2B:: Lineage 2 has castle and fortress sieges at the heart of its combat. It's not "player created" but it's no less meaningful to own a castle or fortress in L2. If you doubt that, watch some videos of the more heavily contested castles like Aden, Rune or Giran. L2 also has other activities not directly related to castle sieges themself, but whose consequences certainly influence their outcome for either side (The Seven Seals event).

2C:: Eve Online has massive PvP over areas of the galaxy, massive player/corp built ships are attacked and possibly destroyed (resulting in quite a loss to their owners), and so forth.

DAoC, AC1, Anarchy Online... to name a few more. All had skirmishes and mass PvP in one form or another.

Basically, DF provides another version of what several other MMOs have had for years now.

Well good. More options are always better than fewer.

    Edited: Improved the format

Don't listen to the OP, only you can decide if you like the game or not.

Its funny how some people, or nearly always the same people, try to convince everyone that the game is sooo great and every other person who tries to state another opinion shouldn't be listened.

He says it is not worth the try from his own experience and you say it is worth the try from your own experience. So please tell me the difference in quality between his and your opinion! There isn't any, your opinion does not wheights more than his. Anyway great that you have stated the 1000 times told and meaningless" It's a game not made for everyone" , hearing this everytime when it comes to negative arguments makes me feel like these posters were brainwashed.

It is not idiotic to warn people to waste their money on a game that it is not worth it in his own eyes. You forget that it costs money just to try out and thats the only thing a game developer wants from the players, its all about money.

One reason why I wouldn't buy the game is that Aventurine still advertises with a lot of wrong and not implemented features on their website. In my eyes they are trying to lure poeple with this into a half made game just to catch the "I-will-try-it-out-money" from them.
