Same issue as with my "AoC- Worth it?" thread. In short, I need a new MMO, and the two I had in mind were AoC and EVE. The AoC user base seems to be split between people who think it's good but has a lot of flaws, and those who hate it from the very depths of their souls. Chances are, I'll end up in the latter category, so I'm not bothering with AoC.
I've heard many things about EVE. It seems to be polished and working very well, as nobody's complained about bugs or lack of polish. Indeed, the only real criticisms are the same as its potential hooks. It's difficult, unforgiving, massive and complex. But I'm not sure how the mechanics work.
For example, how exactly do corporations work? Are they LOADS of them? Is there a tool to make a corporation, or do you just set up as a company? Can you invest using in-game tools, or just by giving the owner of the company money? Is there massive money in setting up as a company, or can you make good profits by bounty-hunting or selling resources freelance to companies or random players? How long does it take to travel in your ship? Do you have to plot a course or control the ship directly? And, finally, how deep is the technology system thing?
Oh, and is the whole player base as back-stabbing and predatory as people say they are?
(By the way, that's a good point for me. Players who are actually intelligent and shrewd in an MMO would be GREAT)
Thanks, as always
