Anyone else not like the vet rewards systems some games have?
New players get a bad disadvantage from it.. Some games it makes PvP almost impossible for new players trying out an older MMO.
They may make things more fun for the vets, but really, if you're playing a game long enough to get vet rewards you must like the game. So... Aren't the vets happy enough?

Like how ADK ruined SWG when people had 10 of them and didn't have to buy armour again.
Well if one person had 10 of them, than 9 other people had 0 of them, so wouldn't that kind of balance itself out? One person didn't have to buy any armor but 9 people still had to buy all of their armor? I personally liked ADK kits for lightsabers, but beyond that never used em.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
Not all Vet rewards are intrusive to the gameplay. So no, I don't have an issue with it.

Nobody is useless, he/she can still be used as a bad example.
Can't they just send a vets a hat with a nice logo on it? Maybe a mug?

It depends on what the vet rewards are. The only ones I recall seeing in a game are the minis in Guild Wars, which are purely fluff.
The Vet Rewards in CoX was one of the things that really made me like NCsoft. I think they are necessary. I don't think they should be anything that should cause any "auto-wins" in PvP, but I do think that they are necessary because they show in a small way normally, that the company actually cares about those that have been their back-bone and made them successful. It bothers me to no end that Blizzard offers nothing to vets other than another email stating that they are taking $15 this month.
Currently Playing: Aion
Trying Out:
Retired: The Chronicles of Spellborn, EvE, LotRo, WoW, VG, AoC, CoX, RO
Waiting on: Blade & Soul, Black Prophecy, Global Agenda, The Agency, SW:ToR, T.E.R.A.
Working On: The 5th Dimension (coming soon)
nice thing about those minis, you never what you'll get too because its a random pet
GW birthday pets are based on character age - not the acct age
each year has a selection of many

Veteran Rewards are tools for companies to keep you subscribing or resubscribe to the game. If a player dedicates his/her time and money to a game it makes sense to thank them for their loyalty. If you like so rewards the veterans receive, then keep playing the game and the reward will come your way.
In most instances, free trials, free starter zones are offered for new players and not veteran accounts.
I think I know what your intent of your post was, though. Are veteran rewards overpowered? Could be, what examples do you have that we should be discussing?
I still like the cosmetic customization options that are unlocked for veterans or Collective Edition owners the best. Titles are OK. Pets are OK. Auras are OK. House items are OK.

Zero problems with it, I have more problems with people who might be against it, I mean everything is already made a instant gradification and now you want to even take this away from people who actualy earned something due to the time to are already with a game, please.................
Before we know it, lvl's will be gone cause lets face it most new people and even older people into this game for some reason rush to end lvl anyway.
Lets remove quest cause lack of imagination makes these quest look like Fedex expresses for many people.
Lets remove travel time....oh wait thats already done......
Anyway like I said I myself have more problems with people who might be against something like VET rewards, I mean jalouzy is such a nasty thing, shame it's brought over into our games aswell

I agree with you about the vet rewards. When I read something stupid like the start of this thread, I just think to myself "Look at the source".
Nothing wrong w/ fluff vet rewards, but game-changing vet rewards imho have no place in mmos.
Fluff vet rewards aren't that bad. The main game that turned me off on vet rewards is City of Heroes. The vets got extra attack powers, and never had to get lower leveled powers. Which made them great at PvP, and still decent enough PvE to level easily.
And as far as fluff vet rewards go, it depends how fluffy they are. It really does have to stick to extra visual choices. Doesn't take much to create an unfair advantage. They could still have things that mark vets. Such as the badges in CoH.
As far as that source comment goes, I assume you have an issue because I haven't been a member here for long. I don't see how the fact that I never went searching for an MMO forum makes my opinions any less than yours.

No cause all people did was have lots of ALTS and the ADK was only like a 1 year vet reward so EVERY combat character had loads of them. I had 5 SOE accounts myself with SWG and I only ever played one account but I could have had access to 5. Everyone in knew in my guild had lots of them and it was dumb because all the people playing at that point and were adventure characters all had them.
The problem with decay back then was it was too fast, you'd have to keep buying new sets of armour every week and light sabers decayed so fast that it was just dumb. All they had to do was slow down the rate of decay but they decided to add ADK's and ruin the game. Just another one of the dumb ideas SOE added to SWG over time. Like the whole Jedi profession was only balanced by permadeath and then sumone thought of the dumb idea to get rid of it and then boom the Jedi everywhere.
Yeah, I would love the vet system in CoX. . . if I had all the badges. I recently returned after years and years away, and had only two badges waiting for me. Every time I made a new character and joined a sewer team with my three lowly powers, I turned green with envy at all the people using Nemesis staffs and such.
