Just wondering what makes this so different than WoW with wings... are the gameplay mechanics going to be the exact same as always???
I mean every game says they are going to be different with combat, but it never seems true at all.
anyone wanna help me out with this..
i have little faith in this game btw.. idc if its beautiful i can go to an art museum for beauty

From watching like 2 minutes of an Aion presentation video at GDC, when you move in combat it changes your stats, they said they wanted to encourage those players that do move around while in a fight. So for example they said moving forward increased your attack, moving backwards increased defense, sideways increased evasion.(I don't quite remember what each direction did) In my opinion, I don't know how I feel about it. I'll take a neutral position on it.
There is a FAQ stickied at the top of this forum.
Go read it or visit aionsource, there is plenty of info on the game if you put a little effort into looking for it.
dont know what your reading, but i havent seen nothing about the combat system
its almost like they are writing to throw around the words "wings" "flying" and "pvpve" around as much as they possibly can.. they expect that and the amazing graphics to suck people in
and im trying to look past that as most should because im sick of playing the same game over and over again

What he is reading is the same thing everyone who actually wants to know about the game is reading. Google the game and you can find tons of info about the combat.
WoW is another copy/pate mmo, you can call it EQLite... and they have 10m subs., so it will be hard to see something really different in a near future because is a safe bet to make this kind of product, sadly but true, anyway you should ask yourself if Aion will be fun to play more than if will be a revolutionary game, and the answer is yes.
The devs have said that they are not trying to break the mold and that this will be a tradtional mmo. There are differences of course like moving in order to take advantage of certain combat tactics and flying but it will otherwise be a traidtional mmo.

The most consistent opinion of Aion that I hear from people who've played it is this: " This is sooo much fun! "
Now in a game, what else matters more then this?

It is fun, but then people find WoW fun too, yet so many here don't seem to want more games like WoW.
Aion is a typical MMO built to western standards set by WoW.
Pepole seems to be enjoying the game. Hopefully it will bring something fresh so its not a freaking yawn fiesta the first couple of hours. And you forgot the most important part:
A game has to have sick requierments so I can feel special when its me and some random guys that can max out the most popular game atm.

Yea, this worked great for Age of Conan. Nevemind the fact that 60% of the people that purchased the game couldn't run it at an acceptable FPS lol.
I know where you're comming from though because I toss 3k a year at my own computer hardware.
I like Turbine's approach with Lotro. They've got a high res, and a low res client to make the system universal. I would love to see two renders of all future mmo releases. I like high population and high resolutions. The low res is the only reason I've never played WoW

I was interested in this game, it had good/ok lore, it had a descent output and so on. Even though it was asian styled I mean.. it could work right?
Wrong, every attack is in sparkly, shining colors with numbers over-head of the targeted (in different colors) mob. Every attack is just too colorfulish.. It looks cartoonish. Maybe that has always been a part of korean mmos I dunno, but this feels worse. Although I may be wrong since theres hardly any real gameplay vids out there but right now it feels like just another korean mmo.
It doesn't look any more cartoonish or colorful then EQ2 and if it does it's in a good way. Now it's hard for me to say because I've never played and many of those who have don't read korean or chinese so I'm not sure if they can comment on my next point, but modern MMOs have UI options to toggle off floaty numbers and names, as well as tuning down colors, gamma and number of particles shown in spell effects.
So if Aion has those options no big deal.

There are a number of graphic options to turn down spell effects but yes, Aion is a flashy gear driven game. There are unique pieces that you will want to acquire. I happen to like gear driven games more than the skill level based ones. The combos and movement system are cool and add a new dynamic to play. The deck system is also kinda new, guild wars works from this concept explicitly but adding it into the mmorpg scape is cool too. I havent played a ton but from what I have I like it. I think it is miles ahead of AOC, and warhammer. I cant read Korean but for it to still be entertaining me says quite a bit for the game.
I am not a fanboi but have followed Aion for a long time. I tend to watch many mmos from the shadows and letsl be honest. Most of the recent MMOS have been really bad. WoW has set the standard so high now that any game releasing without polish, full endgame content and a robust combat system just gets destroyed by the gamers. Some recover and most dont.
Aion allready has polish and endgame content from what I have seen. That alone is huge. Launching it in the other regions first is very smart. The east is far more tolerant of the glitches and what not than the west. By the time it releases here it will be slick and worth your time.
Even when hitting the Korean servers from the USA the gaemplay is exceptionally fluid. That was a huge eye opener for me. I was ready for lag fest but they got the network code and server setup nailed. Maybe thats part of the crytech engine, who knows.
So it does copy some elements from several games, but it also has some unique aspects to it that I feel make it worth the time. I had written off fantasy games after being sick of wow but Aion is going to get my sub without a doubt. The community so far is also great. Who would have thought. Oh and Liv...wow
Can't wait to play it. Everything including combat and all kinds of visuals look awesome. Also those abyss events.
You are correct, In the settings you can turn off all names and many more options if you wish ( my last few days of playing I had everything turned off and I scrolled all the way into a first person view and did some PVE like that, NOT recommended but I could do it)
